He will be in the film for a short time (like Yoda in TLJ) and probably as a recorded hologram. Thats my guess. If im right they didnt really give anything away in the trailer.

The thing is with me, the trailer I did enjoy, I enjoyed parts of the panel but mostly bah.

However, the curious side of me, I keep my eyes and ears open in regards to rumours and to be honest, they mostly sound freaking awful.

There's a long, long way to go before they (Lucasfilm) get my confidence back.

Pretty much exactly how I feel (except I don’t see the “red”)

I went from excitement at Palpatine’s laugh and McDiarmid on stage, to “can Abrams not create an original villain?”, to this means RotJ meaningless, to ruining Vader and Luke’s duel to it makes sense for the primary big bad tot have something to do with the final episode, to George Lucas did originally intend the Emperor to be the villain of the Sequels to the most important part of Luke and Vader’s confrontation was that Anakin turned back to the Light side NOT that me killed Palpatine, to Lucas & Filoni have pulled this kind of thing off in the past.

    Now I’m cautiously optimistic.

We don’t yet know what form Palpatine will take. There is always a way to make it work. Dark Empire is a great story and book even though I’ve never “agreed” wit but.

EDIT: I’m also very surprised about this reveal because from the reaction ice assumed that none of this had made its way online. It seems to be something that they could have kept a secret.

Obviously there is a reason to reveal it now - I just can’t figure out why

    --- Double Post Merged, Apr 15, 2019, Original Post Date: Apr 15, 2019 ---
JJ Abrams does not reveal information accidentally.

He said the heroes would confront the “great(est) evil” and then they reveal Palpatine AND McDiarmid.

This is not some minor cameo.

Abrams also revealed that they heavily workshopped Palpatine's role in the story with George Lucas, and Kathleen Kennedy revealed that the character's return has been planned, in broad strokes, since the Sequel Trilogy began and that said said return was always going to happen in Episode IX.

Even the flare is red. :D

We pretty much went through the same emotional loop, it's almost like five stages of grief, lol. But, yes, cautiously optimistic is where I landed.

I didn’t register the red in either of those even though I thought the red cracks in the helmet are awesome

Yes, we’ve had quite the emotional rollercoaster :)

It seems to be a 'thing' that Luke's line of "we've passed on all we know" means that we're going to actually see Force Ghosts from the past, but I don't see that happening, although I do think it's an indicator that Luke isn't the only person who's visited Rey in "ghost form" and taught her what she needs to know.

There is also the possibility that Hamill's audio is just for the trailer like the TFA trailer and never in the movie.

Given the fact that it was repeatedly emphasized that The Rise of Skywalker is the conclusion to a 9-part story, I firmly believe that Luke's line is in the film; I just don't think it's an indicator that we will be getting physical 'cameos' from people like Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Anakin the way that some people apparently seem to.

    My thoughts after the teaser.

I think the Yavin medal might be some sort of key, something left behind on Yavin IV storage, and the DS chunk could therefor be the 1st DS. Just a guess.

I had to go over the teaser twice to get a first impression because the first time I didn't have the volume on lol.

Without sound, I first thought Rey was going to see Luke's ghost or resurrected self. Then I saw the Tie and assuming Kylo, I'm kind of baffled by that scene.

    Lando made me smile.

Kylo's helmet looked cool being rebuilt.

Thoughts of RotJ with the skiff with Poe and Finn and 3P0.

The last scene with the ocean and DS was pretty cool. The whole gang together. No R2 and that new droid... not sure how I feel about that. Definitely a shout out for toys and to the kids.

Emperors laugh was pretty epic. I'm curious to see how they fit him in. Clone, ghost, hologram seem to be the working theories so far.

The title could grow on me. I was a little torn due to it mentioning an individual... though it could wind up being an ideology I suppose.

If it's the first DS, maybe Kenobi's light saber could be found.

In conclusion of these mostly random thoughts, I enjoyed this teaser despite myself. That said, it hasn't changed my anticipation for the movie, however I do have a few more questions.

I thoroughly enjoyed this trailer, but LF hasn't put out any bad trailers for any of their SW films IMO.

I'm soooo excited to see the emperor again (I'll gladly take him over Snoke), and having him be a factor in this film/trilogy seems like a great way to connect all 3 trilogies.

Even though a lot of people have lost faith in LF, and feel that LF have to 'earn' their trust back, I feel like the SW content that LF has in store is nothing but great. They've had the time and criticism through their past SW content to see what works and doesn't work with fans and I have no doubt that EP9 will please everyone.

Well... almost everyone. *Cough* if you *Cough* know how the SW fandom can be *cough* ;)

I have to say that I liked the trailer a lot. At first I didn't like the name. I saw the title reveal before the trailer. My initial reaction was ho-hum to the title but since viewing the trailer now a few times over the title has grown on me.

I like some of the theories that Skywalker becomes the name of a new order of force users, but I do think it relates directly back to the family line. Probably dealing with Kylo/Ben, maybe pertaining to Anikan. Maybe Rey, but I really don't see how. I'm okay with her just being part of the story and not a Skywalker by blood.

As for parts of the trailer it self:
-I loved the opening but now that I think about it more, the way Rey is running doesn't seem like she is facing off against the tie fighter. There is way more to this scene than meets the eye.

-The nostalgia moments of seeing Leia and Lando were great. I have to be honest I didn't know what to think about bringing Lando back but now seeing him I like it (Although they really didn't have to dress him in the same colour scheme we just saw him in in Solo)

-The chase on the skiff is great, and I liked seeing the land speeders in the explosion/wide shot afterwards

-The scene with the DS and the new gang was the best for me. I loved the imagery used there.

-Finally the laugh - bring it on! I'm game to see how the king of the long game is going to make, or try to make is come back. With all the lore that is being fleshed out in the comics I can see how this may work.

Bottom line - loved it and I'm hyped. I was hyped before but this makes me even more excited.

My son asked me after we watched the trailer what I really wanted to see happen in Ep IX, and I said that I just wanted to see a great movie with no expectations. I hope that is what it will be!

    “A lot of people”?

Did you not see and hear the crowds?

I think it is safe to say that the negatives are in the minority.

    I noticed that too.

I have no doubt though that Artoo is going to get his fair shake in this and that he is in the scenes at the cliff edge in the actual film. Most likely he was blocked by Rey or just off screen at that moment.

They should have used a clip with of that moment with Artoo in it but perhaps there is a reason to not show him yet - maybe he gets damaged or is involved in an action scene where Abrams wants us to think he doesn’t make it.

I’m cutting way down on my internet usage as of now so as to avoid spoilers for the new Game of Thrones and Avengers.

I also don’t want to see anymore Episode IX or Mandolorian footage, stills or chatter. I won’t be back until I’ve seen IX a few times.

Take care everyone and have fun.

Edit: literally mentioned in the post above. Ignore me!

He will be the Mc Guffin.
Rememebr there was no Luke at all in the TFA trailer, because Luke was the final Mc Guffin.

Artoo is the key to everything : he's the only character to have witnessed all the eras, and the only one that recalls everything.

Woah ! I like this . I thought it very weird he (artoo)wasn’t there in the trailer .
Ok so my thoughts on the tease trailer . I loved it .:D It was epic in every sense of the word and really emotional. Just thinking about it makes me want to cry - MSW were right when they said it was a tear jerker in one of their leaks . It was .
Beautifully shot , nostalgic and hearing that cackle at the end was sweet music to my ears . Something has been building up in the books and comics with Emperors contingency plan so it was though I had an idea about something brewing and another villain - it was pleasant surprise and a welcome one ;). Rey was just awesome in that opening shot and seeing Lando in the falcon with chewie warmed my heart . Luke’s voiceover was really emotional and seeing the title come up and end of a saga had me crying too .That title too could mean
endless possibilities and I wouldn’t rule out anything at this stage . I can’t see how anyone can top this to be honest. I need this film now ! More! :D

I don't think it's a KoR. Seems kind of primitive for a knight. I would think the KoR battle will be a showdown.

oohhh.... I hope they don't do the ESB thing and it's "Dark Rey" flying it... I mean if it is the force dream test... it could be. But I felt like she had her force dream on Achto.

I dunno. Poe has an injury to his arm in the Death Star scene, I assume that happens in the desert scene with Finn and Threepio before that. I'm thinking more like the beginning of the second act for them to arrive at the Death Star remnants.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but this amazing teaser did an amazing thing for SW community:

It got us all talking and working together again. It filled this community with positive energy and excitement for a (most probably) glorious new movie.

Really cool time to be a SW fan.

Enjoy it while you can because no one knows what awaits us in the future beyond Skywalker saga.
I'm sure that the new trilogies will be good, but I don't know if they're going to manage to recreate the magic of Skywalker saga.
Bottom line: 2019 is our year, enjoy it.

Yep, but after the film release the fans will start to fight each other like every SW movie released so far.
Before TLJ the people were complaining about TFA...that its was a copy of ANH, that Rey has super powers without any training, that Snoke's CGI looks fake, that Phasma was a horrible character with 2 minutes in screen, etc....
People are never satisfied because they want to see in the screen what they thought about the story...lame.
