The vast majority of audiences love the move. A few dislike.

Haha. If the vast majority of audiences love the movie, the OP wouldn't feel the need to create this thread in the first place. Don't you get it?

It's on pace for 200+ million opening.
Mostly positively reviewed everywhere but RT fan voting.

Read again. The OP is genuinely concerned about Disney "overestimating the general audience's intelligence".

My whole theatre was quiet when the movie ended. Several others have reported the same thing. It's not definitely not just "fan" voting.

Well you're right. Everyone else is dumb you are right and your complete anecdotal evidence outweighs actual reviews.

For someone who got so pissy about this thread accusing it of talking down, when it clearly wasn't his intention and he even amended it to make it more clear, you sure do seem to love talking down.

Saw it twice, both full theaters, both viewings with multiple moments of applause. And it was two vastly different crowds. Anecdotes rule!

From what I have read, heard and seen, the only people who severely bash the film are the fans who can't accept the fact their head cannon didn't come to fruition

Luke wasn't the way I wanted him to be

Finns story arc was terrible, he should have been a Jedi

    Why wasn't Rey a solo/Skywalker/tap dancing mongoose?

    Etc, etc, etc

Get over yourself. The movie was not made to satisfy YOU and YOU only.

People like and dislike the movie for different reasons, why do you care if other people don't like it? You should be happy that you do and enjoy it.

I am perfectly happy that I enjoy the film and I'm perfectly happy for other people not to enjoy it, as is there right.

    However what makes me understandably unhappy is fans;
    1. Criticising the film without seeing it because they read a spoiler and think they know every detail.
    2. Flat out bashing the entire film because their favourite characters story didn't go the way they wanted.
    3. Using phrases like 'lazy writing' to vilify a scene they don't like, with no apparent comprehension of the term.
    4. Deliberately trolling.
    5. Feeling that because they have been fans for 40 years they own the franchise or that it owes them.
THIS is what pisses me off. Not the fact others don't like the film, that's your prerogative and I quite frankly dont give a sh*t whether you like it or not. What I hate though is keyboard warriors and trolls attempting to pass them selves off as 'die hard' fans. (Not that I'm aiming this at you BTW)

And this surprises you? With the amount of hate George received after the prequels(he who created the franchise) it was to be expected that in movies made by someone else fans would be even more entitled.

Well, the fact that I've received more negative ratings for my posts in this thread than all of my previous negative ratings combined on this forum, kind of says it all.

People don't like the truth! :p

Unfortunately the truth has been revealed now! About how you are behaving like a whinging child in this thread! Like Kylo Ren-immature!

People have conflicting opinions. Noone is objectively “wrong or right” about the quality of film. They have a right to see depth and themes, where you see “shock value”. Don’t state your opinion as fact.

Some people love it. Some people hate it. Some people will love it enough to get freaky with it in bed. Some people will hate it enough, they’ll fantasize about smashing up copies with a baseball bat!

Seriously all i get from you is wee wee wee “I didn’t like the film!” And you seem to be under the delusion audiences everywhere will magically wake up in a few weeks and share your opinion.

Someone needs a perspective shake up!

I'm just trying to collect thoughts on what sort of person the Luke would be that some of the people hating the movie were hoping for. Luke has always been a conflicted person. A person who needs to resolve his internal conflict to do the right thing. He has mentors whom he trusts and who help him make that choice. That's exactly what happened in the Last Jedi. It is the Luke I know. Its a dynamic Luke, not a static one. Hope comes from somewhere.

Did they expect the Luke who threw away the sabre in IX? The post-ROTJ from the old canon: one who was just as conflicted and perhaps even more so than the Luke we meet in TLJ? Or did they want a Saint Luke, who does everything right, and who has the right answer for everything? The Luke who doesn't make mistakes?

Furthermore, didn't Luke, at the end of TLJ end up being exactly what you wanted him to be, and even more. The most powerful Jedi, who has seen true wisdom and communicates to us his message of hope. The war has just begun. "And I will not be the Last Jedi"

Last, wouldn't that just be Mark Hamill's sentiment. He said after he read the screenplay: "Rian I disagree with everything I just read". But then when he had seen the result he said: "I admit I was wrong and should have trusted Rian in the first place", later going even as far as saying that TLJ "is the best Star Wars movie since Empire".
