Yep. George could have ghost directed this and people would feel the same. Hell, I'd feel an overwhelming sense of relief if that were the case knowing that George still had it...

Alright man. Well, if that's your take, that's your take. I learned a loooong time ago not to waste energy on creating enemies but rather building friendships. So that said, in all sincerity I'm sorry ya felt that way, and hated the film so much. I truly hope you enjoy the remaining Star Wars universe films. Happy holidays.

 

JJ was well-aware of what Johnson had made when he agreed to come back aboard to finish the trilogy.

 

Yeah, I think that people are forgetting a lot of important things regarding J.J.’s and Rian’s relationship which make this “Rian is dumping J.J. into the lava in Mustafar” argument a bit odd to me?

• Rian handed in the final draft for TLJ around the same time that J.J. finished his final edit of TFA.
• J.J. has publicly stated that he wishes that he was the one who got to direct Rian’s script for TLJ.
• Rian saw dailies from TFA, and him and J.J. sat down at least once to talk about where they think these characters would go from here.
• as executive producer, and given how he likely would have had a hand in IX to some extent even if he wasn’t directing, it’s unlikely that J.J. hadn’t seen a fair chunk of TLJ (be it dailies or otherwise) before he signed on to do IX.

I’m more worried about Chris Terrio than I am Johnson’s relationship with Abrams and whether or not he’s “dropped him in it”, and how he thinks it should move on from VIII considering that he has no prior history with working within the franchise, and given the reception for the last few films that he’s written (sure, he didn’t do much on BvS, but the little that he did do hardly made the film any better).

 

Lucas made the PT and the stuff going on now is nothing compared to the outrage from people hating on TPM. I remember those days on theforce.net forums being even uglier. So I wouldn’t see why it would be any different in terms of level of vitriol just the exact reasoning.

To be honest. I was expecting "feels", some magnificence. I think this director just has none in him.

JJ's thinking Superman 2... Kiss of Power to wipe everyone's mind & have Leia fly really fast around the universe to reverse time to before Episode 8.

 

The amount of "fans" talking like they know better than Rian when it comes to character and script writing, is mind-blowing.

Rian Johnson made an amazing movie ... out of a mostly terrible, terrible script. If that makes any sense. =)

The A-plot was well-written though. The rest...?

 

If you paid any attention to what Rian was saying in interviews leading up to the film, then this movie definitely won't be as jarring to you as it is to others. If you chose to overlook it all and go full steam ahead with your own theories and expectations for what this film should be, you're gonna have a bad time... probably.

 

What Mark Hamill thinks of RJ is enough for me.
