There's a thing called respect, and there are a fair few here that clearly don't have it for any opinion other than their own... but anyway... back on topic...

There are 6 months of personnal attacks by barely the same people but you aren't one of them.

I can live with a clouded rating, really ...

I'm here since 2 or 3 years now and I never had a bad one before TLJ but this place has changed, there used to be respect between people but it was a long time ago ... in a galaxy far far away.

I think again, this is indicative of a major misunderstanding on both sides of this conversation. I honestly don't care how you vote, and as long as you rate a film honestly and without spamming it (either good or bad) then I would never consider it out of spite. That's just your opinion man, it's cool.

What we're talking about is abuse of the system. An abuse that, in this case, we've seen some compelling evidence of. Anything in which someone devotes time to devaluing a film outside of their initial negative feedback on a specific platform is, in my opinion, spiteful.

So, I mean, as long as you just voted once with your RT profile, more power to ya.

You're right. You are free to not like the film. You are also free to think Rian Johnson is a bad film maker - or even a fraud or a plagiariser or whatever - for 'ripping off' scenes from other films. But also I think that if you're going to hold TLJ to that standard, and call it a 'bad' film for those reasons, then it's only fair to hold all the previous films to those same standards. And really that was the point I was trying to make.

If it's 'bad' when Rian Johnson does it, then surely you have to agree it was 'bad' when Lucas did it? I don't think you can really have it both ways.

If you do think it was good when Lucas did it, but bad when Rian did it, then I feel like that would need explaining. And it might be possible there might be some reasons it is.

Now I apologise if came across a bit aggressively in my posts. I just assumed most fans were familiar with the idea that Star Wars has always been seeped in movie references and homages, but there's no reason I should think that, and that is on me. So sorry.

I didn't feel trolled with Lucas and at least, it was Lucas creation, so he was like the owner of this, it was his thing.

Johnson came to this story and made his own thing which was barely burning down everything that other people did while bringing not much to this story ( Rose Tico / Purple hair and DJ ) and leaving it right there washing his hands and being smuglish with some of the fans who were in their right to criticize it because they paid to see this. They waited and they paid.

If you ask me to build a house and I leave a giant hole in the ground, I'm not sure that : ' I subverted your expectations' would be the thing you wanna hear from me.

I don't know how old you are but some old fellows like me were waiting for 32 years to know what happened to Luke Skywalker and I didn't wait 32 years for this ...

We already talked about that.

Before I went to see the movie, I posted right there on this forum : Whatever, there will be some people who won't like this movie blah, blah , blah but I would never ever expected I would be one of these. I take my lesson there and maybe you won't like ep IX and you will be where I am right now.

And yes, I felt trolled ...

It seems like this is where some of the hatred comes from. Here's the thing - fans didn't pay Rian Johnson to make a movie they wanted. Disney did. Fans only paid to see the movie Rian made. Nobody "owns" me, you, fans or whoever anything. That's why your analogy doesn't work.

 

You do realize that "Your Snoke Theory Sucks" is a tounge and cheek comment?

 

one that solo paid for at the box office to the point where ron howard is begging fans that his movie has nothing to do with TLJ.

the second the backlash happened they should have fired him or gag him silent. that image above is cancer that destroyed star wars box office potential. frankly a hard reboot should happen at this point and that wont ever bring star wars back to box office glory

To me this the heart and soul of whether or not a person liked the film. It also would explain why older male fans are the most upset part of the fanbase.

I've stated before it's not an accident JJ punted Luke to the 2nd film. Luke's fate was always going to be the most divisive decision. I don't think everyone had the same ideas about what Luke would become, but I heard plenty of "I can't wait for Luke to ignite the green!" before the film. Essentially people wanted superhero/warrior/Luke. Why wouldn't they, they's basically the premise of every Marvel film. However, Luke throws down his saber at the end of Return of the Jedi.

Luke is a Jedi. Jedi are basically pacifists. The lesson to be learned from the Clone Wars is the Jedi made a mistake becoming warriors for the government. When Luke says the force doesn't belong to the Jedi that's perfectly in line with the Luke I knew from 30 years ago. However, that's not in line with the Luke in the extended universe. That Luke wasn't George's Luke either.

I'm an older fan and I waited a long time to see my hero again. He went from being a hero to a legend. Luke manages to do something amazing while sacrificing himself for his friends and family. I can understand why some people don't like it, but to me it's made Luke even bigger.

 

The thing is that you see a sacrifice where I see nothing.

 

Luke creates a division that allows the leaders of the Rebellion to escape. Leia and her connections being able to escape means the Rebellion will be reborn. Rey being able to escape means the Jedi is reborn. I can understand not liking it, but I don't understand how that's "nothing."
