THREAD FOR THOSE WHO HATED THE MOVIE

Ya sure I see your point but writing in plot twists just for the sake of having a plot twist doesn't mean that it's good. Plot twists are good, if you do them well. In my opinion RJ didn't do them well.

My main point though is that I think the management from Kathleen Kennedy is what I'm really disappointed in. She set up a situation which had a higher chance to disappoint than it should have. She hired notable writers and directors, but split them up into different sections of a single story... which is fine if everyone is on the same page, but they weren't, they were each silo'd into a section. You gotta have some sense of story direction, get them in a room and come up with a general outline and then give them free range within the outline. RJ confirmed there were zero meetings where they discussed the overall trilogy direction, he had complete freedom to do whatever. KK should have managed the trilogy better, but didn't, and instead (whether you liked TLJ or not) delivered a product which is undeniably divisive within the fanbase.

It's not good when you're managing a trilogy and you have no clue what the end product will be (she does now obviously since they wrote 9). It's like hiring 3 people to build a car and you don't map out what the end result should be. One person builds the frame and engine however he wants, then the next guy comes in an designs the body work and paint however he wants, and then the last guy adds whatever he wants for the interior. Sure, you've built a car, but it's probably not a good one. Maybe should have planned it out first.

 

I dislike TLJ.

TLJ lost me. I am checking out of the Shark-Jumped-Star-Wars universe.

Fans used to discuss the essence of Star Wars and what could happen next. Now fans argue over why TLJ did or did not suck and discuss what should have happened. To add insult to injury the daily Rian Johnson explanations for TLJ emphasize the sad state of the Star Wars Universe. His poor explanations made me realize he didn't care about the Star Wars Universe.

Rian Johnson and the person responsible for supervising his work should be fired.


To those of you who dislike the movie remember:

• All good things come to an end as we witnessed with Star Wars in TLJ (The deniers will eventually join us or die.)
• The undeniable fact remains that TLJ was a very poorly structured and poorly told story with terrible character development at best and inconsistent characters at worst (Homicidal Luke).
• The Force will be with you, always.
• You are not losing an ally...

Yes, I am checking out of the Shark-Jumped-Star-Wars universe.
I am becoming one with The True Force (pre-TLJ) thus more powerful than you can possibly imagine.

(The TLJ-lovers who love my leaving do not understand). ​

I will keep rewatching Episodes 1-7 & RO.
I will "splurge" and see Episode 9 on $5 Tuesday.
I will not buy a copy of TLJ on video (I've gladly bought numerous copies of all previous movies.)
I will not buy any more Star Wars merchandise (with the exception of a Despecialized HD version of the Original Trilogy).
I may check in The Cantina again one day.

• To Rian Johnson, I say, paraphrasing my words from the grave to Anakin, "Rian! RIAN! NOOOO!" AND I give you the same words of wisdom given to Jar Jar Binks "The ability to speak does not make you intelligent. Now get out of here."
• To JJ Abrams, I say, "May The Force be with you" as you attempt to bring balance... hell, as you try to restore The Force to the Star Wars Universe. Remember Luke's words "It's not impossible. I used to bullseye womp rats in my T-16 back home, they're not much bigger than 2 meters." Yes, Rian Johnson is about 2 meters.
• To The Cantina, I say, thank you. I may check in The Cantina again one day but as a classic Force Ghost.

That was truly epic!!!

 

YOU hated the movie ? I am shocked to the core !

 

In both of those cases the heroes don't join the dark side and fight the good fight. TLJ will be a wedge between fans for as long as it's canon. Some who hated it will come around to like it or tolerate it, some who loved it will eventually realize it's a chore to watch the multiple cringe worthy moments, and I really don't think it will age well. It did everything backwards from TESB, so why wouldn't it be the anti-thesis to TESB and be the weakest link instead of the strongest one for its trilogy.

The more I try to come to terms with this movie, the more I can't stand it. I think fans like me who dislike TLJ so much (and now because of it the ST) need to take a step back and take a deep breath. This trilogy probably won't be for us, but hopefully they can come up with something good in the next trilogy and the spin offs. If the fail on the next trilogy and a few spinoffs, hopefully it'll show at the box office and they bring in a whole new team from the top down to redeem SW moving forward.

This is so unnecessary.

 

It's ok, funny gifs and YouTube memes are what motivates these people to go on with their daily lives. That's why I sometimes use funny gifs against them, since that seems to be the way they enjoy debating a serious discussion.

 

You know, it's a whole thing. There was a time in this cantina where people respected each other. I stated many times after TLJ that those times are gone and it became like a real social network with people are trolling other people ... ( for a movie ).

I don't want to complain nor fight back. The best thing is to go.

Like if you like TLJ or not could say something on you or become something important. It isn't. It is just a movie.

I think that some people should perhaps lighten up instead of banding around troll ratings, having hissy fits and then making a dramatic exit. It's a SW forum guys. If you can't take a bit of gentle ribbing, then perhaps it's even more worth your while leaving rather than hating upon TLJ?

I liked Last Jedi but it does not even come close to Episode 3 imo.

 

May the Force be with you too (although, these days in the GFFA it's more the "schwartz" than the Force - in memory of what was, eh?).

PS. Also, should you choose to return, check out the Force Net Boards. I find they are better moderated than the Cantina.

 

Please don't victimize. Both ends are receiving massive negative ratings, it's not like its only "one side" showing off their "hate".

That's why I really don't like the name of this thread. It should be called "The big thread of criticizing TLJ" or something like that - because that's what it's actually about. Once people can come to their senses are realize that criticism does not equal hate, perhaps it would be easier to have respectful debates.

Although I have to say that dramatic exit was hilarious and too much. Nevertheless, since when does one dramatic exit from one person equal all the "haters"? Bandini was pretty chill about it.

 

When Luke "dies", he vanishes, his clothes fall. But why is no metal "CLUNK!" sound heard as his artificial hand falls to the ground? Oh that's right, they forgot to animate his hand falling too....

 

his metal hand is a Force projection the entire time. gosh, didn't you even watch the movie??

 

That's what they're going to add in the Special Editions 20 years from now.
