I never said anything about it being disproportionate. I just find the nitpicking comical. Everything in TLJ is plausible for a Star Wars film. That doesn't mean people have to like it.

I suppose it all depends on where, how,and why you suspend your disbelief going in. There has to be some suspension because it is Science Fiction / Fantasy. So a nit pick like "the Mega Walkers are just a larger version of the AT-AT, that's so unoriginal" might be comical given that the remnants of the Empire would be working with remnants and/or updated improvements of old technology.

Of course some of the things you regard as nitpicks may not register as nitpicks for others; it's all subjective once you boil it down.

You’re right. Not on topic. I agree with the concept (if not the example). Works of fiction are not instruction manuals or historical documents. They’re stories meant to entertainment, not edify (though they can certainly do both). Put any piece of fiction writing under a microscope and you’ll find flaws. The question is whether those flaws are so pronounced that they break the illusion and ruin the audience’s suspension of disbelief.

I don’t personally feel TLJ’s flaws are so drastically egregious that it destroys the fantasia, but I understand if other people feel differently. But are those gripes consistent with their perspective of the rest of the series? Or are they merely more sensitive to them because they didn’t care for the movie in general and are now looking for evidence to support that dislike? Hard to say.

It’s basic contingency planning. Each step wasn’t designed to fail, but there was an auxiliary aspect in place for each in case it did. It started with peaceful negotiation and escalated to wholesale violence with each eventuality being accounted for. I’m not sure what baring the timetable plays though. A year would be excessive whatever plan they came up with considering ESB's ending. Assumingly, something came up in-between and Han got back-burnered.

Sorry to harp on it, but this is just one of those staples of fandom (like Storm Troopers being bad shots) I’ve never been able to adopt because I don’t see the problem. No, it’s not ‘realistic’. But it isn’t illogical either from an action/adventure serial perspective.

I mean, the plan is ridiculous but it's the ridiculous nature of it that is so classic sci-fi fantasy.
It isn't Alien or 2001. It's Flash Gordon and Buck Rodgers.
There's a level of inherent camp to Star Wars.

The biggest gripe we should have with the rescue is the Force kick tbh :D

It gets worse when you stop and think "Wait, how could Boba Fett not realize that guard was just Lando wearing a helmet."

I'm so much in love with this movie... the emotional and narrative power of TLJ is staggering! And the richness and complexity of the characters is superb. TLJ is definitely the SW film I'll re-watch the most in the future <3

It is also the most beautiful SW movie by far, IMHO, a true piece of art!

Did anyone ever read that story "King Arthur" I heard it's based off of Luke Skywalker and his story. Pretty neat.

Last time I saw was in the theaters. I am waiting if they will show the movie in Netflix here in Luxembourg, I would like to watch it in 4k.

I am still divided if the most beautiful (visually) is TFA or TLJ.

What I love about TLJ is the central message. To me, a story is like a person. There's the part we see on the outside which appears to the eye, but then there's the part we don't see, which appears only to the mind. It's like a spirit in a body. People generally judge by what they see on the outside, but I'd propose it's what's on the inside that really is the only thing that matters. And if I look at TLJ in that regard, it may actually excel the other movies. The kid in me will always be drawn to the OT, but if I consider things without a child-like bias, TLJ actually has something to say, something which to me, is important to understand.

I've always maintained, much to the constant mystification of those around me, that failure is to be desired over success. To lose is to be desired over to win. I try to explain the truth of the notion with the saying "No pain, no gain." To me, the benefits of failure and loss over success and win are plainly apparent. They convey a greater strength in the end. Success is like, a man who sits on a couch eating chocolates; failure is like a man who is in the gym, pumping iron. Honestly I look at this world and think, it's all backwards. The things that are truly to be desired, are disdained, and the things to be disdained are desired.

It's like there's two worlds; the one we see, and the one we don't see. Physical and metaphysical. Those who win in the physical, lose in the metaphysical. Those who fail in the physical, succeed in the metaphysical. To fail is painful, but from that pain comes a metaphysical strength in spirit, in understanding, in perception. To succeed gives nothing really in return. It's about, teaching. Learning. Those at the bottom in the physical world, have through their experience and situation gained something those at the top don't have. True riches of, understanding. Of, perception. Wisdom through fiery trial, as it were.

We look at the winners and the top, and see people with objects that appear to the eyes; big house, fancy clothes and cars, sparkling gold trinkets and such. But what the ones at the bottom have, don't appear to the eyes, but is infinitely greater. When we look at what appears, there are mountains and valleys, as it were. But if we perceive without the eyes, the mountains are really valleys and the low places are really the high places. The times we fail, are the high points, the times we succeed are the low points. Because out of pain, is strength, in body and so in spirit. By spirit I don't mean, a ghost thing, but, as in "that girl has spirit" or as in, that abstract measure that is you. Your spirit of which people speak when they say "She has a compassionate spirit" the spirit of you.

The entire notion plays through TLJ, with the main characters each going through the trial of failure and emerging with stronger understanding on the other side of the furnace; especially with Luke, and in the manner in which the idea is visually represented with Luke leaving the darkness of the cave through the fiery tunnel and into the light to face down the FO. The manner of the duel in which he exemplified the nature of the Jedi. The struggle to bring himself to a position to sit in the light of the sun and find peace in understanding the nature of the trial and let the physical pass into the formless idea. Failure is a hard experience, and from the criticisms some level at the story, seeing someone else fail is a hard experience as well. But in the end, no pain, no gain. It was at least to me, good to hear someone else understanding the great role of failure as teacher. I thought "See? Yoda knows."

In the end, thinking about it, there's something poignantly satisfying about the hypercriticism of TLJ, and the failure of TLJ with a section of the audience. It metaphysically lends itself to the idea expressed in the movie itself. Something poignant about the critical "trial by fire" which Rian, Kennedy et. al. have to endure. I wonder if they realize the extension of the idea?

So, hey, did you make it this far? If so, good work. May the failure be with you!

They convey a greater strength IF in the end you win. Winning is what gives past failures worth. That's what "no pain, no gain" means. In other words, winning is what matters, so desiring failure is absurd.

What about those who are at the bottom because they deserve it? And what about those who worked their way to the top and therefore understand more than both people at the bottom and people who were born at the top?

Why don't you look deeper? Someone's gold trinkets might hide a gold soul.

What about those who are at the bottom and live by "misery needs company"?

    WHY ARE YOU CURSING READERS??

    (kidding lol)

What I love about The Last Jedi is that even though Luke failed, he was redeemed in the most amazing way possible. I've always wanted to see how powerful Luke could be and usually this has been imagined as him killing/destroying/etc... but that's not who Luke was at the end of Return of the Jedi. He threw his saber down. His compassion for his father is the act that saved the day. Luke couldn't kill Ben Solo. Just the thought of doing it wrecked the poor man for years. Ultimately Luke did something unbelievable. He used his immense connection to the force to project himself across the galaxy, to save the rebellion, and the Jedi once again.

I love The Last Jedi, and I hope JJ sticks the landing because it will only help show how great a film Rian Johnson created.

I am on a TLJ watching binge and I totally agree with you @DailyPlunge .
One thing I cannot understand are those that cannot get past the one scene of Luke having the internal struggle over whether to strike down Kylo.
Yes, it happened.....no, Luke did not carry it out....and yes, it destroyed the man for years.

Love this character arc because of what Luke transforms into at the end , the most powerful and wise Jedi Master seen to date.

I had to leave it open, just in case I don't get the numbers. That way the night before the projects due I can log into my other google account and make my up the submissions. It's lame, I know but I am not going to let my grade fall cause I couldn't get the numbers! I took your advice though and turned that function off so it should allow for one entry per person.
