What if the movie sucks/isnt very good ?

I am reffering to main story elements like Mara Jade, Skywalker children, Thrawn etc... Many were asking about such a trilogy...

 

I don't think there is any way it can suck. I mean, Force Awakens set things in full speed and it just seems like there is no way it can suck lol. But if it does, oh well :/.

 

I agree with you from a 'Certain POV.' I think there is something about SW that draws us in whether it's the story, the characters, the Lightsabers, the mythology.

I guess my point is I wasn't a big fan of the PT, but in saying that the movies didn't suck. A movie that sucks is unwatchable and you never revisit again. All of us who didn't love the PT, or TFA, or R1 have revisited the movies multiple times for one reason or another.

So there is something in a SW movie that moves the needle with us even if it isn't executed well. So yes, a SW movie can't suck.

Except the Holiday Special!

 

If Luke dies in this movie it will, unequivocally suck.

 

If Luke dies, then I am going to wonder if the trio were intended to be killed off per episode.

 

If Luke dies in this movie I'm going to wonder if they have really taken the pulse of the SW fandom. As much as we have been pre-programmed to look for (and even want) a surprise twist, I don't think anyone really wants Luke to die in this. I think part of the only reason Han is gone, is because Harrison Ford wanted his character to have a heroic death (long before TFA apparently)

 

I'm gonna bet that the twist is we see a team-up with the good/bad guys due to a common enemy discovered. That's never happened before in a SW movie I think.

 

It would be original (for an Episodic movie). In the video games wing of Star Wars, the Sith Empire and the Republic have teamed up together. I think though, with what they've established thus far, I'm not sure they have the bandwidth to challenge all the main characters, give some abbreviated history for each, adding new characters, and then adding a new enemy to both factions.

 

I admit I am getting strong SWTOR vibes from this trilogy. Arcann was a dark prince whose mother was against him and part of my Consular's team. Her sacrifice brought him to the light and he joined me in fighting his father who had a hold on him and his insane sister. In that expansion of the game, the Jedi and Sith joined to form a new order to stop the Emperor.

 

I honestly don't see how anyone can be surprised if Luke dies in Episode 8 or 9? Before Carrie Fisher's death, I don't see how anyone would be surprised if Leia died?

I say this because SW always kills off every major character. Anakin, Yoda, Obiwan, Padme, Quigon, Palpatine. This is Game of Thrones in a GFFA!

I fully expected Luke, Leia and Han to die in this Trilogy because each Trilogy is about the next generation. It's the one thing that is amazing about the SW movies is that you have a different set of protagonists in each trilogy yet it's still super popular.

 

I loved the cinematic trailers for both games, I think they could do a movie about them if they ever did Episode movies set in the times of the Old Republic.

 

I expected it as well because with the actors getting up there in age and if there is a hiatus before the next trilogy, you cannot expect them to all be here. We lost Carrie already, and I wouldn't want Mark and Harrison to have off-screen deaths any more than Carrie.

 

Arguably Anakin, Obi Wan, Yoda, and Sidious span 2 trilogies; their respective arcs are not concluded with trilogies end.

 

I recall J.J liked it and also watched it. SWTOR is not part of the new trilogy and will never be canon, but it seems some things were taken from it. Especially the robot in Maz's place and the bounty hunter helmet on the guy who Finn is supposed to leave with. When Arcann's mother woke from her coma, and Arcann showed up, unmasked, scarred-faced and kneeling before me, asking to join my cause, I just kept thinking something like that could happen with Ren, and Arcann nearly killed me earlier! If not for the Emperor's spirit inhabiting my character, she would have died.

 

And have Luke, Han and Leia.

And they didn't KNOW when they all died they would have 3 more movies.
Luke, Han and Leia have had 2 full trilogies more or less.

 

True, none of the Expanded Universe or Games are necessarily canon, I just like the premise for many of them and there is a treasure trove of stories to be told, though I imagine they'd have to change the Title Format if they ever did some of the older stories. Couldn't exactly number these movies as Episodes like the 7 Episodes we have so far. There would be no chronological continuity if they did (I'm sure they'd find a suitable way to title them, that's probably not a big issue)

 

SWTOR would make an amazing movie! I chose to be a Consular and ended up learning the lost lore of the Jedi and finding out how the first one became a Sith. Ancient temples, books, meeting force ghosts. Fighting my own master who was the bad guy all along! Damn... I loved it!

 

I feel like Luke and Leia were barely in TFA (especially Luke) so I wouldn't have minded if they didn't kill Luke and Leia off until the next trilogy or at the very end of this one. There is obviously going to be a hand off to the new main characters, and eventually their characters will be killed off as they hand off to a new generation, I get that. But IMO, with Luke's central position in the franchise, I'd like to see him fully launch the next generation of Jedi before departing (though I suppose we could always get a Force Ghost cameo... it wouldn't be the same though)

 

It's morose to say, but you can't bet on any of them making it to the next trilogy. Sadly we know that Leia will not make it out of TLJ in any real fashion unless they re-work 9 to use TLJ footage of her.

Luke should die before the next trilogy. He's had his run.
I'd rather see him go out like Obi-Wan than Yoda.

 

Alternatively the could opt to not wait 30 years to shoot the next trilogy. I mean I get what you're saying about the off-screen death, Leia's character deserved better (though apparently they send her off in grand fashion). I want the same for Luke. Killing him in Episode 8 is NOT what I regard grand fashion, especially since he didn't speak one word of dialogue in TFA. At least let him go out saving the galaxy's bacon in Episode 9, at least give us that.
