I can see that as possibility. After years of war, the republic and empire are weakened. Both working on reestablishing dominance. Snoke (another species from the unknown regions) comes to a broken, headless Empire and helps form the FO. Continuing to antagonize and distracting the Republic/FO whilst his species readies to sweep in and take over while they are occupied. Not to unsimilar to Nom Anor's job in the NJO.... very far fetched and highly unlikely but not out of the limits

Mark is still 65. Even if they only wait 10, that puts him at 75 and that is closing in on the average life span.
    I say don't risk it.

I dunno this Holliday Special everyone talks about...lol...
I wasnt a fan before tfa. I could watch the movies but thought them shallow. And silly. Luke was never my hero. To perfect...except the whinning part. Han is my fav charachter of OT. Loved qui-Gon Ani and OB1 in PT. Now...I love all the movies. With all the flaws. And shitty charachters. My son loves Jar Jar. Dont agree with all that was ever put in the story but when i take it i try to remember the times in which every movie was made. But I wont spend much time on gossiping ewoks as much as i will discuss the ramifications of the greedo incident in a funny grandiose sort of way. Seems specially redundant to me to shitpost about things that happenned long ago and over which we or anyone else has no power to change. What's done is done and done for the better.
With ST...i dunno what will happen. The story enthralls me captivates me. If they do with it things i dont like it still wont change the way tfa has touched me. I dont like much R1...but I watch it. And accept it. Its important lesson that we learn to accept that some things are beyond our control and not everything is here to please us. Nor it should be. Not even if we pay the movie tickets. Im interested in seeing the story as it was envisioned and if there is one thing i hate then it would be the author selling out and tweaking the story according to whinning from the fans. Or political corectness.
I love SW...and I live SW. How I understand the Force will never change. Its independent pf cannon. Cuz...Im one with the Force...and the Force is with me ;)

Everyone dies...what can he strive to become than beeing immortalized in the Force by becomming a Force Ghost?

Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not.

With the twists and surprises we were teased about, along with being told this movie can stand alone despite being a sequel and is old and new, it would certainly be unexpected. Rey's parentage, Luke dying or Ben turning good are not what I would consider plot twists or surprises.

Everyone does indeed die. His character will have to die one day as well... it did in the comic books in the EU, it will happen one day in the movies. I'm just saying, not in 8... and if it has to be in 9, let it be in the final act. We know the hand off is coming, it has to happen, that's life. Push it to Episode 9 Act 3, that's all I'm asking.

    Agreed!

I actually had a thought at one point how in every movie one of the big three would die....Han in 7, Leia in 8, Luke in 9 and to pass on the torch figuratively and actually to the new generation. Then Carrie died and I that seemd awfull all of the sudden.

@GreyLo - "Then Carrie died and the seemed awful all of a sudden."

    Yes. Yes, yes, Yes.

I'd been waitin' a long time to see if this'd come up in some way and wantin' to post up in the various threads where it'd fit but din't.

    It's Real Life.

Real life doesn't always give us all what we want.
Same in the GFFA mythology. We wanted to see Luke, Han & Leia together one more time. We got 2 outta 3. Real life (yeah, I know it's fantasy) for them just didn't allow for it to be.

Star Wars has lessons (even if lil' ones) to teach, yes ?

    Lesson learned.

It won't flop.. but it may take a while for its brilliance to sink in.
I think it's going to be more interesting to see what our perpectives of TFA are going to be after we see this movie.
I've been doing a lot of thinking.. what I'm seeing makes me pretty confident about this one. This is going to be their first movie going forward that they actually have an idea WTF is going on; they got a solid backstory atm and a solid story for the movie itself.

I agree. Any of those could expected or anticipated. I wonder about the Luke part though with Carrie gone. Han went in the TFA, then Carrie in RL, Luke is the only legacy left. Would they kill him off now even if it was on the table originally.

i don't understand why everyone thinks Luke is going to die.
even before Carrie Fisher passed away, it never struck me that Luke would be on the chopping block.
he'll live to be an old, wizened Jedi mentor.
they killed Han. Han was our OT sacrifice.
the rest of them were always going to be fine (and hopefully Leia still somehow will).

    Absolutely, I've been anticipating this.

I think this is going to be the film that really feels like it bridges the worlds between the prequels and the original trilogy. We got a little of that in Rogue One, but I think this is going to be a Star Wars that takes all of the world building done in the prequels and actually goes out and shows it in a movie that would otherwise feel more like part of the OT.

always love your posts @FN-3263827, but this is like putting out cake, cookies AND a mocha for me (and no.. i don't share).

asides all that you have said... Mark Hamill is fit and healthy, and is a walking advert for all things star wars. why in sam hill would they kill off his character? i get the whole... finish the skywalker story, and let's meet the new characters etc etc, but why kill Luke Skywalker?
it's the Skywalkers.... not the Starks! we don't have to kill em all ppl ;)

I'd be wanting him around for a small role in the next trilogy! yes.. the next trilogy! ha i said it... it's out there now.. it's happening :D

edit: oops never actually answered the thread topic...
Star Wars movie suck? a star wars movie that sucks??? i don't actually know what that means.. as i don't think it's feasible. it can't suck... it's Star Wars.

nothing wrong with cake, cookies, and mocha! hahahaha

exactly, re: Hamill's star-power, good health, good humor, good everything.
killing him would be insane. not because Star Wars would perish, but because he has so much still to give.

Lucas film could make bad decision after bad decision for 5 years and we would still love what came before... and what is still to come.

killing Luke Skywalker makes no sense.. none.

Despite all I hope of Luke's heroic death in EP IX. I think he deserves honorable heroic death with light saber in his hand.Like Obi-Wan. I don't like imagining Luke die of old age.I hope we will see great Luke become one with the Force in epic moment ,and rejoice with tears in our eyes. He, just as Han,and Leia, deserves for his death to be perpetuated in the Gospel of Star Wars ,in Trilogy, not in some side-scrolls.

It's going to beat the moof's arse, I can just feel it.

There'll always be those who want the OT and then complain when SW movies have the same feel. There'll always be those who won't like anything that deviates remotely from the OT. This is all fine, opinions are what make discussion great, however these new movies so far have been great and are STAR WARS.

Got a good feeling about the movie from everything that's come out of it so far, but if it stinks, then I'll wait for SOLO to make it all better ;)

dunno ~ i guess i come from a culture that appreciates its elderly people, learns from their wisdom.
there's no need for it to be a thing of suffering; yes getting old is hard, but we all gotta do it.
Luke seems like the perfect person, actually, to teach my generation (and the subsequent ones) how to do it with grace and dignity.
