They turned the final battle on Endor into an absolute farce. And it's brilliant! It does completely blow the emersion for me, every single time. But, every time, without fail, I have a blast! it's great fun. I grew up on Star Wars so I'm inclined to like the Ewoks because they were cute and I was a kid so I found them to be just the funniest little critters going. But as I'm older now, I can understand why people didn't like/hated them. Like a lot of people are saying, they beat the Stormtroopers who have been proven to be battle hardened killer, into dumb dumb being beat by big eyed cuties. But I think a huge issue was the shift in tone from TESB. TESB was dark and interesting, next you know, you're on a forrest moon with a bunch of carebears who want to eat Luke and the gang... What?! It's a little weird and it doesn't really work.

Even after all is said and done. I still love the Ewoks.

There's nothing wrong with Ewoks. These are kids movies :p. Remember what you thought of Ewoks when you were a kid? I do. I loved them.

Ewoks were badass really. They are masters of camouflage. They caught the Empire totally off guard, creating chaos on the battlefield. They built traps originally used for the native giants to destroy the walkers. Besides they eat people, thats hard core. I can totally buy the Ewoks defeating the Empire, fledgling groups are always defeating large mechanized armies.

They took down stormtroopers with sticks and stones that hurt their bones. Then they probably ate most of them.

All kidding aside, everything that happened on Endor was ridiculous. Not only do ewoks defeat stormtroopers, but they manage to capture Luke out of all people? Who, by the way, can levitate C3PO but can't undo his restraints? On top of that, C3PO waits a long time before telling the little beasts to set Luke and Han free. Why? Because the trilogy was ending and people ran out of ideas, that's why. Sure, there's the "size matters not, the weak can defeat the strong if they're kind of heart" message behind the ridiculousness of it all, but that's just an excuse for lack of creativity at that point.

Well Luke allowed them all to get captured. He made Han hand over his blaster...He could've killed them all, maybe...But there were like 50 ewoks at the trap. He opted for diplomacy instead (knowing that they revered Threepio) and that led to them becoming allies against the empire. Makes sense to me. Maybe not the most creative thing in the world (but then again, this was 35 years ago). But I don't think George "ran out of ideas". I don't think George will ever run out of ideas.
But seriously, cute, fuzzy murderbears that will kill and eat you...what's not to love?

Yes but there were other options. Like talking to the ewoks (or communicating in another way) instead of getting tied up and ready to be barbecued? Surely a Jedi could come up with something.

Not running out of ideas as much as choosing the option that seemed funniest and most appealing to children. Getting captured by natives and being revered as a god (which always backfires) is such a common trope, andI suspect it was only funny the first time it was used.

Well if you put it like that...yes, of course, I can see their appeal now.

I wouldn't put too much faith in the Emperor's "best troops". I'm guessing that means they miss by 5 feet instead of 10.

I love the Ewoks. I think they are a great addition to the Star Wars world building, and they add all manners of nice context and alegory to the franchise. I would LOVE for them to appear in the ST, probably not as a major faction or anything, but more in a token cameo or something; that would be great, I think.

That said, I do have two problems with the Ewok sequence in RotJ:
    1) The entire Ewok-introduction and establishing thing stops the story dead in its track; we basically take a 20 minute break from the movie to learn about the Ewoks and how the heroes deal with them and their culture. This would all be fine if it happened in the first or second act of the story, but as it stands this demonstrates perfectly why it is a bad idea to introduce exposition elements and major setup at the climax act of a story. (These scenes also alignes with the so-called Mighty Whity trope, although that doesn't bother me too much in this instance as the heroes ARE demonstrably more sophisticated and advanced than the "noble savage" Ewoks).
    2) While the Ewoks are NOT awesome, the Endor Stormtroopers suck so much that they make them appear to be. This is -- as it also is in ESB (and in ANH unless you accept the notion that the Death Star Stormtroopers in ANH misses on purpose, acting on orders from Darth Vader who wishes to track the Rebels back to their hidden base) -- a principle weakness of the OT, and it annoys me to no end.

But yeah, don't hate on the Ewoks, folks! :D

What do you mean with "what's wrong with Ewoks"? What's wrong with YOU?;)

Since a dude disliked my post I put a smiley on it to make clear it was a JOKE.

I just thin. That in some scenes, they are not important to the movie.

This has most likely been said before, but the ewoks didn't help defeat th Empire's ground troops, they helped distract Imperial troops while Alliance soldiers defeated the Empire. It may not show it onscreen, but there are several hundred to thousands of Ewoks that participate in that battle, and even if they are Palpatine's "legion of best troops", they're no match for that many opponents, regardless of their cute, cuddly stature. I also imagine that the troops we see dying are just being knocked out or down. Like I said, distraction. And a cocky, sad Empire overlooking this diminutive species.

Both OT and PT had that one race of characters that rubbed me the wrong way. Ewoks and Gungans. The Ewoks did become more palatable to me once I realized they ate all the Stormtroopers, but the Gungans were just portrayed as a group of idiot frogs with rabbit ears. Im praying that the ST doesnt have any of these kinds of characters. Both just kind of took me out of my Star Wars moment.
