SPECULATION Where's the romance?

That is correct, she has denied it. Whether she is pulling our leg is another matter.

I voted No one. I don´t want to presume the next episodes, but in this one, there will be no romance. The Han/Leia thing I would call nostalgia. And I´m not even sure about the romance in the future. If any, it would be Finn and a new girl. I don´t see Rey to be romantically involved in this trilogy..

 

Rey and Poe seem like the most random pairing at this point and seems to come from people who just want Han/Leia 2.0 to replace their dead ship. Literally nothing in the mountains of spoilers we've gotten has pointed to any kind of relationship or even an interaction between them. I mean, Poe and Finn seem like a more plausible couple right now. At least there's some delicious tension in their scenes.

 

Didn't JJ say that his two favorite romances were 50 shades of grey and twilight and that the romantic elements of those two films will have a big effect on Episode VII romance or did I hallucinate again.

 

The romance is strong in the Cantina:

I've noticed it's mostly coming from people who haven't read any spoilers and don't know that the two have zero interaction throughout the entire film. So it's pretty much coming from a place of not-knowing.

But yeah, the people who just want to see a rehash of Han and Leia through Rey and Poe are frustrating. I mean, I'm not throwing shade at the people who like the idea of them together, but, we have a new universe with new characters and the potential for a dynamic we haven't seen before in Star Wars, and that's what you want to see...?

Do you even LIKE Star Wars? Since you've started posting here, you've been nothing but condescending with your generalizations about people who are fans of certain characters or pairings, JJ and you name it. This isn't supposed to be a miserable experience. If you constantly feel annoyed or like you need to unnecessarily criticize/bash others maybe you should go back to tumblr?

 

Or unfortunately, there are still people out there who don't like the idea of Rey and Finn for reasons. (and probably Poe/Finn too but at least I acknowledge that's just a crack ship lol).

But yeah, it seems most are just looking at it in terms of "oh hey that guy is Han Solo-ish" and "oh hey Rey is.. a girl?" let's pair them!

Am I actually incorrect in what I said about Rey/Poe supporters though? Cause I really have not seen anything in official material or leaked spoilers to even remotely suggest anything between those two yet mostly when I see people wanting that pairing, it's from Han/Leia shippers.

Also I'm sure there's an ignore button you can use to save you from opinions you don't like!

 

Han and Leia is all we're gonna need in TFA. I do think Episode VIII will feature a new romantic plotline though. Remember that speculation about Tatiana Maslany and a few other women competing over the role of "Han's daughter" in Episode VIII? Well, if that's true, it's gonna be her and Finn.

 

I personally don't see many similarities between the two pairings, tho? :/ Yeah Poe is a dashing pilot but nothing I've seen suggests he's the scoundrel type who's gonna learn how to be a hero. He seems to start off this story with very heroic, noble, white knight characteristics. Even Rey who's more of a survivalist from the wrong side of the tracks isn't exactly the scoundrel/rogue type as she's more innocent, hopeful. If Rey is Rey Solo then Poe has probably heard about her through Leia, and any devotion/loyalty he has to Leia is going to extend to Rey. Heck even if she's just Leia's niece he'd still feel that way. If romance is in their future he'll probably struggle with the idea that he should have brotherly instincts towards her but there's more to it which he can't help because Rey is super lovely, cute, admirable, strong, etc. And I'm not sure Rey would approach any romance in the traditional way either because of her socialization growing up - survival has always come first so she hasn't been able to afford to think about romance so a pretty face won't turn her head easily. When she meets Poe at the end of this movie she'll probably be more moved by him offering to let her keep BB-8 than she is by his good looks or charm (but I can also see him inspiring new feelings she's not used to when they meet - whatever happens here I think it'll be a nice moment for them that leaves plenty of room for something to explore in VIII, should that be the plan).
Anyway the larger point is they'd be nothing like Han/Leia so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If my lots of elements from Willow is correct. Phasma would be Sorsha and Poe Mad Mardigan.

 

Let's wait for them to actually appear in the same frame together before writing the fan fiction.

 

I get what you're saying, I'm just talking about people who aren't thinking like that, and are instead just saying they have to be together because, in their eyes, they're like Han and Leia - as well as people who have a problem with Finn and Rey for, shall we say, other reasons. But, as Natalie said, I personally think we should all just wait and withhold judgement until after the movie comes out. That way we can difinitively say what's what.

 

Maslany seems to be out due to committing to the Boston Marathon bombing movie. Although who knows, they could make it work.

I really hope they can. Don't get me wrong, I love Rodriguez and Salazar, but Tatiana has always been my first choice. I fell in love with her the minute I saw her little guest appearance on Parks & Rec., it would be so fantastic to see her in a Star Wars movie.

 

I believe Rodriguez also just signed on for another project that would film around that time so that could put her out of the running too. But who knows, we thought we had Gugu confirmed already and then she shot it down on the red carpet.
