    I definitely don't think it will be maul. I doubt it's a Sith in the "tank" at all. They said this is not a movie about those factors and i still believe that...Vader and the emperor can be in it without a Sith plotline.. The emperor says kill the rebels and Vader goes out looking for blood.

    I also doubt a connection to the tv show rebels. I'd like it if done well but i have a feeling these two crews won't intersect on film

    Though I like the cartoon but wish it was live action... On topic, I am starting to think that as well, but would be neat to see one of them live!

    It has not officially been confirmed, but hardly anything has been confirmed at this point. However, it seems to be the option that is most likely to be the right one. If it is not a bacta tank, what is it then? And why do the Red Guards stand next to it and why does the cloaked figure kneel before it?

    Red Guards tend to protect the Emperor himself or people (or objects) that the Emperor considers essential. So, it is the Emperor, Darth Vader, another important person, or an important object. It is unlikely to be Ben Mendelsohn (playing Director Krennic), because we see him in the trailer twice.

    Because the Emperor would not kneel to anyone, it is unlikely that the Emperor is the cloaked figure. The recent leaks have suggested that Darth Vader will appear in the movie. He could be either the person in the bacta tank (or what we assume is the tank) or the person kneeling. If it is the latter, then the Emperor is probable the person floating in the tank. I do not think Darth Vader would not kneel to anyone besides the Emperor. The kneeling person is unlikely to be Ben Mendelsohn, because he has been seen with a white cape and the cloaked person seems to have a black cape. The person kneeling could, however, be Forest Whittaker. We do not know yet on which side he is. Is he good or evil? The recent leaks do not mention his role.

    My guess that it is a bacta tank, Darth Vader is recovering in the tank (because he got injured in the explosion of the Imperial Shuttle that we see in the trailer), and Forest Whittaker (a bounty hunter) is being ordered by Darth Vader to catch the rebels. Another option is that the Emperor is floating in the bacta tank and Darth Vader receives the order to catch the rebels from him.

    Meanwhile, I believe the theory more and more also plausible that a) it is a bacta tank and b) Vader is in it, recovering from serious wounds received. That might be an approach by Disney to sell the audience why Vader is moving so clumsy in ANH while fighting Obi Wan, especially when having to adapt to new cybernetic legs/arms. In ESB, he’s already moving better when confronting Luke.

    But I’m not convinced that I would like such a forced explanation if not done well.

    I believe it is one if you compare the one Luke was in in Empires.. Though the Rogue one has some weird white stuff in it.

    The Rogue One has plasma electro magnets, that's why the bright lights and static electricity...it's a upgrade on standard bacta tanks.

    Nah, it's just some Stormtrooper... :p
    I certainly believe someone special is in there, there's no reason for guards and a single tank. If it were a general med facility, we would see more tanks, and the Emperor's Royal Guard certainly wouldn't there. It has to be someone special or important.

    Well since the emperor's guards are there...honestly, the more that I think about it it could very well be the emperor inside or the emperor kneeling (even though it's not in his character) because the red ones follow him everywhere.

    Hello ladies and gents,

    Just registered (newbie). Have been reading posts off and on. Intrigued by this baca tank theory. When I first saw the trailer I thought the "tank" looked more like a cryostasis chamber. The top portion of the assembly: circular platform with hoses hanging down reminded me of the "crude but it will suffice" carbon-freezing chamber on Bespin. Maybe this is the legit cryostasis type chamber that would normally be used.

    Just thought I would throw that out there.
