Why didn't Palpatine just stop zapping?

But we're talking about Palpatine. Plagueis is not Palpatine, as far as we know. Or am I missing something here?

Vader's suit serves as the ground - as soon as he grabs Palpatine - the bolts envelope them both- what impresses me the most is the fact that Vader was still able to chuck him over the rail. It remains strange that Palpatine kept pumping out lightning as he was falling; maybe that's how you prep to body hop, I have no idea what new canon says about it.


It tickles me that Vader's life sustaining device was Palpatine's doom.

 

The Sith gained power by always being defeated by one more powerful. The new master Carrie’s all the previous masters along with them. Was why Palpatine wanted a healthy Anakin to begin with. They always seek to move into a host that can destroy all that they are, making them stronger and stronger. Palpatine was so powerful his shroud of the Darkside was weakening and blinding all Jedi.

 

If the Sith have been body hopping all along, then all of them have been consumed by Darth Zannah....

Which would explain why he didn't grab Rey in the throne room in TLJ if he needed her to transition. Unless it really took him that long to figure out that the FS girl on Jakku just might be the granddaughter he thought was dead.

I was going to poo-poo this theory, because I thought that they would be done with Ian McDiarmid and Palpatine. But it would not be beyond the pale for some Darksider to find the sabers and use them.

Why he gave up looking for her to begin with though, I haven’t the foggiest. Wasn’t stealing children the FO’s whole bag? Just snatch up ALL the tikes on Jakuu and sort ‘em out later

I think that despite Palp's influence over the First Order, finely tuned quick moves like that probably were a little out of his wheelhouse, especially outside of the Sith Eternal's fleet. If Palpatine was even aware of what was happening in the Throne Room in real time, and if he even was aware the Rey was force sensitive, and even if he knew that she was his descendant... he might not have had the means to actually retrieve her. Unless I'm behind on lore, Snoke was more or less an independent being, and Kylo certainly was.
