Will Rey turn to the dark side?

Not gonna happen.

 

NO.

Rey already stood on the edge of the dark side and she will be tempted by the dark side in TLJ (and/or EPIX), but she will NEVER turn to the dark side. Rey is the hero of the ST, she functions as a role model (especially for kids).
It's possible though that she will stay on the dark side for a short period of time because she gets brainwashed by Snoke.

I personally like the theory of side switching. => Kylo goes to the light, Rey goes to the dark. But it's not gonna happen.

 

Dude, I was just posting this as I saw your comment! And if they did that, there would be less of a perceived "need" for Rey to be a Skywalker, as Kylo would be the Skywalker protagonist. Actually, this would be an awesome twist, and certainly not what anyone expected.

It could be Ep. 8's "I am your father."

It would certainly liven up what, for me, is a pretty flat character.

 

I think she needs to go to the dark side for a brief time but return to the light....otherwise, her character would be very flat and one note.

 

If Rey does turn that would be pretty messed up for Luke. The guy exiled himself from the galaxy after his failure with Ben and the Knights of Ren. If he is subsequently tracked down by Rey, convinced to train her, and then have her turn to the dark side as well... man, what a kick in the nuts!

 

I think a hero who refuses to compromise in the face of adversity and hardship is beyond intersting. You can show her struggle but she does not need to go dark side to be interesting.

Hmmm, I guess it depends how it's executed. It's probably inevitable that a Jedi faces some internal struggle with the dark but at present I'd bet against a fully fledged turn to the dark for Rey (although I'd be okay with a temporary antogonist/protagonist switch if it was done convincingly and creatively).

We know that good people are not beyond seduction, that benevolent intentions can result in evil, and that bad people can often change. Considering how Rogue One addressed the ethical dilemma's on the Rebel side I'm expecting the ST to focus more on Anakin's grandson - like his foil Finn - struggling with his commitment to the big bad.

Interestingly “turn to” means “to direct one's interest or attention toward” so in a way the dark side will always dominate a Jedi destiny forever - even if they never channel it directly. After all, a Jedi's responsibilities involve interest and attention on darksiders and facing the dark (physically and metaphorically) is all part of the protagonist job description!

Angel's can fall from grace too, it would take something personal from her past to trigger her anger, Han's death did the last time but she came back to the light, if Finn or Luke goes next that i'll do it, I could see her leaving scene warning both sides not to try find her.

 

Look at "Dark Rey" fan art. She looks like a natrual Darksider. If we get a full on redeemed Ben Solo who lives in IX, I'd love to see Dark Rey in X.

 

Don't think so , from what i've noticed in TFA , she had a natural repulsion against all evil , but also depends on who her parents are/were,

Luke had a big bad Sith as a father, that could mess with someone's mind

 

There is a part of me that would really like to see this happen but while Disney is all about the girl power thing I don't think they are genuine about it enough to allow a female hero character fall from grace even for a second.

I would love to be wrong about that though. It would definitely save her from the Mary Sue characterization.

 

To be honest I'd be surprised if she won't be on the edge of turning to the Dark Side at some point in the film. Will she neccessarily make a full turn? It is questionable, although it still may happen. However, if that happens, she will be brought back to the Light side at some point before the film ends.
