    She is definition of one.

She may end up breaking the trope in the ST as whole, but in TFA.......thats how they created her character. As I said, I think they are/were scared to allow her to look vulnerable or weak at all, and they were in such a rush to get a "strong, female hero" they didn't take the time to build her up properly but rushed head first into her achieving........everything right out of the gate. They didn't sit down and say "lets make a Mary Sue" but their desire for and view of what a strong female hero is/should/neede to be lead them there.

I can't give myself an off topic rating. But this post probably qualifies. There is a thread for discussing Rey is a Sue or not.

Its tangential here but I think that the fruit of the discussion is not yielding many changed minds at this point.

Lets just say that people of open minds and good will differ on whether or not "Mary Sue" applies to Rey.

Now why or why not might this Sue or not fall to the Darkside?

I think they have put her in position diametrically to the antagonist so I think its safe to say that while tempted she is likely not to fall. Not just that she's a hero but structurally in opposition to Kylo.

Great, a bunch of people who don't know whta a mary sue is and/or feel the need to defend the Mary Sue character because they live in a world where a person can't like a Mary Sue OR any criticism = a bad character or something.

After the cast at D23 unanimously agreed the movie was going to be gray, I don't think she will. I had my doubts at first, but they were very adamant about less black and white for everyone in VIII.

Kylo appeals to Snoke because he is a balance of light and dark.....if Rey is some light side prodigy, Snoke will have no incentive to pursue her beyond wanting her dead (which is a dull one note plot)....hence, I think Rey will at least turn dark for a short while during the trilogy.

I think it's possible to a certain extent, since what we know about the Force is claimed to be turned upside down in TLJ. But then again this is a Disney movie - so who knows?
