Well, Han was almost forced in, but the concept was abolished as it didn't make sense. I didn't mind the C-3P0 being built by Anakin. Who else aside from the droids could tell the story to the Whills?

On the matter of Han Solo, I don't mind his recasting, just give us a twist. The film should be able to give us a slightly different side of him as he's younger ,mixed with the older Solo we already know.

I agree that they need to be there for the sake of telling the story, but they had that covered with R2 being there from pretty early on (and I loved his introduction). The C-3PO story just didn't work for me. Even if he had to be there in TPM, maybe he was a random droid working in Watto's shop, maybe he was thrown in as part of the podracing deal, I don't know. He could have entered the PT at any time really. In fact, introducing him in Rogue One would have been much more ideal, I think. (Hindsight being 20/20 and all, I know at the time that obviously wasn't on the table) And then they wouldn't have had to do the easy fix-all "memory wipe" at the end of RotS. I dunno. Agree to disagree, I suppose!

I believe the million dollar question is..... What if SW Fans and movie viewers PREFER Rogue One over Episode VII and the new Episodes?

I suspect Disney might be extending Rogue One over a couple of Movies due to his success and i would like to watch a new series of movies unfolding paralel to the Original Trilogy.

Will I skip? Nah.. When I was little, I excitedly watch the Holiday Special when it came out. I'll be in the theater to watch each...at least once. :)

If they make a Bobba Fett movie, I'm skipping it for sure.

My plan right now is to have my @$$ in the seat for the premiere screening of both R1 and Han Solo.

I felt that way for years, but now when I watch ANH and 3PO says "Thank the maker", I chuckle to myself, so I give it a pass. Far from the worst thing to happen in TPM.

So...I know it's not a movie, but there's this little show called Star Wars Rebels...

But yeah, seriously, that's a really cool idea. How would Rogue One fit over more than one movie? Would it be just one character or a group of characters, or the idea of separate rebel cells? I'm genuinely curious (and 100% agree with you and REALLY want to see parallel movies too). But would these be about other rebels or both sides, or...gah! The possibilities are endless!

They could essentially remake the OT from a sideways POV, from the Average Joe's accounting of the things that happened. Without showing the stuff we've already seen.

We could get to know the guys and gals that scouted out and carved out the base on Hoth, and some of them maybe made it off, maybe some dies in the assault.

We could get the story that tells us whether or not that is Rex on Endor with Han and Leia at the bunker or not.

Maybe a Top Gun type thing for the pilots that attacked the second Death Star.

Redundant? Sure. But what SW film isn't at this point?

I tend to think that regular fans are those who love the SW movies but nothing more. Sure they may buy a few things SW related then and now but the movies are their sole universe. Hardcore fans like us are those that can't get enough SW and we are more deeply into it. We read the books, comics, novels ect. We play games, collect toys and other merchandise and we just love to talk SW like we do here on the Cantina and we also tend to know lots about the EU beyond the movies.

So, with this said, what do you consider yourself now? Just having you here in the Cantina makes me think you are a bit more than a casual fan so what do you think?

ha! thanks for the question ~ interestingly enough, with the OT, i was the kind of fan you described: loved the movies, bought and played with the toys, but never had any interest in the EU ~ maybe read a few comics, was aware of the books, but yeah, not hardcore at all. and when the PT came out, i literally crawled under a rock and thought i could never be a Star Wars fan again.

now i read all the novels, the comics, buy all the toys, watch the OT and TFA obsessively. there are still some things i'm not into (yet or ever); the PT is still a sore spot with me and i've never gotten into the cartoons, but i would consider myself pretty hardcore nonetheless.

    everything in perspective, right?
i love this fandom and hate watching it fight.
there's all kinds of Star Wars for all kinds of people and that's part of what's really beautiful about it.

Everything checks out perfectly and I have to say that you are indeed a hardcore fan! I also have to say that we also have a similar form of thinking. While I myself am a hardcore fan, there are some SW things that I like and others I don't like as well cause I don't agree that just cause I'm a hardcore fan I have to get each and every single thing that comes out and take it with a smile and say it is perfect just cause it's SW cause there are some crazy things out there like the Holiday Special that still give me the shivers!

ha ~ right? if the qualification for "hardcore fan" is that you love everything, i don't think there'd be a single hardcore fan in the world because that Christmas Special is anything but ~ hahaha

all that said, i'm looking forward to R1 and hope i love it, but it won't be the end of the world if it just turns out to be so-so.

I feel the same way regarding Rogue One. It would be very cool if the movie is awesome though as this is going to be the very first non Jedi vs Sith SW movie. I have read many novels and love alot of things from the SW galaxy that have nothing to do with Force users and I'm crossing my fingers so that these anthology movies open a new path for many awesome things. I love Smugglers, Bounty Hunters and many other things and I think these can make for very interesting movies. I have to admit though that I am not very thrilled about seeing movies about young Han Solo or Obi Wan as I'd rather see movies about characters we hardly know anything about them instead of characters who we have already seen alot of and that are now dead.

I'm with you Merman! I'm real pumped as well that the saga is going to expand beyond the Jedi/Sith conflict yet I too would rather see movies about guys like Bossk, Nabrun Leids or Shaak Ti then going back to see characters that we already know how they died. That is one factor that I dislike about prequels. It's one thing to know about awesome characters that are still around and kicking as their stories can be expanded on and it rarely harms the story but why give us a prequel story about how awesome Jek Porkins or Captain Needa were or give us a movie were we see that Phasma was such an awesome warrior that she single handedly took out all the Knights of Ren in single combat when we are just going to see Porkins and Needa bite it and then see Phasma doing nothing but being eye candy and getting suckered by Finn and thrown to the trash.

i like seeing the regular joes too. as much as i enjoy the Force stuff, i prefer it in limited doses.
though i totally want an Obi-Wan standalone with Ewan McGregor!
Han Solo, not so much ~ hahaha

Me too Amanaman. I'd like to see movies about characters like Zuckuss, Cad Bane, Ahsoka, Momaw Nadon or Sidon Ithano as they were last seen alive in their movies and series but I wouldn't be so thrilled about seeing movies that show us how super cool Greedo, Saesee Tiin or Admiral Ozzel were if we already saw them bite it in such a humiliating manner in the movies.

This needs to happen now! Maybe we can get a live action Thane Kyrell and Nora Wexler too! ...or at least a cameo
