    My ranking as of now:
    ESB
    ROTS
    ANH
    ROJ
    TLJ
    RO
    TFA
    ATC
    TPM

I can see the TLJ go up as I view it more. The TLJ has more layers to me than TFA.

    From best to worst

    Star Wars
    Empire Strikes back
    Return of the Jedi
    Revenge of the Sith
    The force awakens
    The phantom menace
    Attack of the clones
    Star Wars holiday special
    The last Jedi

If I could place the last Jedi anywhere lower than rock bottom I would.

Don’t think any movie in the OT had pointless subplots and even a quarter of the plot holes present in TLJ

    TESB:

    Wampa cave attack. Space slug.

    ROTJ:

*Sucks in breath* Slave girl Leia, Jedi Rocks, freeing Han and killing Jabba, captured and cooked by Ewoks, escape from Ewoks, reading story to Ewoks...

    Come on...

As for plot holes, there are plenty but we ignore them because we grew up with the OT and so ignore it. TLJ isn't given such an easy ride. Though what plot holes do you refer to?

I'm sure the amount of plot holes are not what makes or breaks a movie for everyone. I didn't notice any plotholes I can't forgive.

Ok Wampa cave attack was to show Luke had mastery of the force when he used force pull to grab his lightsaber. We had never seen his progression in the Force before.

Moreover it was used to explain Mark’s injuries from a motorcycle accident as well as set up Yoda when Obi Wan tells him to to go to the Dagobah system.

Space worms were for tension we spent maybe 10 minutes or so in it compared to an entire subplot with the casino which was a large portion of the film

    best to worst:

    1st Empire Strikes Back
    2nd Rogue 1

    3rd The Last Jedi
    3rd The Force Awakens
    3rd A New Hope

    6th Return of the Jedi
    7th Return of the Sith
    8th Attack of the Clones
    9th Phantom Menace

It's a very difficult list to make... the top 6 will always be on top of any movie list I make, and despite some problems I love the prequel films as well. It's almost like asking a child who do you love more? Mom or dad?

I'm just really interesting why you put RO last place. It has been dropping in my lists as well.

    My new ranking:

    V
    IV
    VI
VIII (really really close to RotJ for me, the first post-OT film that flirts with top 3 territory)
    VII
    Rogue One
    III
    I
    II

I have a similar feeling. I also think it is not helped by the fact that it tries to be both a classic star wars movie (narratively) and a war movie. But it can't be both. I'd rather wished they went completely for just one of the two. I love the battles and can appreciate the story. It just feels........insignificant. I also really didn't like how Edwards was bragging that he would make a better movie than 'A New Hope II', as he called it, but then didn't.

Don't know if this is because of the reshoots or something, but i felt like it gradually "transformed" into a traditional Star Wars movie towards the end. And I'm not sure if that fits with the rest of the movie, allthough i loved the space battle and Vaders rebel-murdering. I liked Rogue One, but I am more happy with The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

    1. The Cristmas Special -- haha, kidding. ;-)

No, as for right now, TLJ is actually in my top spot. The shock after the first viewing; the brilliant provocation and then the thought and acceptance that what we might expect does not have to be the right thing -- yes, I think it´s a wonderful movie:

    1. The Last Jedi
    2. The Empire Strikes Back
    3. Return of the Jedi
    4. Revenge of the Sith
    5. A New Hope
    6. Rogue One
    7. The Force Awakens
    8. Attack of the Clones
    9. The Phantom Menace

Without the Vader scenes I would have ranked it lower as well but THOSE SCENES...

I enjoyed Rogue One, but really struggle with the 2nd act. It's too bad they had so many problems with the edits/reshoots. I fear the same problems will be evident in the Han Solo film.
    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 19, 2017, Original Post Date: Dec 19, 2017 ---
Are we sure they "destroy the
    Skywalker
legacy"? Also, I think that very legacy is preserved and perpetuated by the end of the film (don't forget the kids playing with the toys, re-counting heroics). I think we can revisit after Episode IX. Rey's parents are still completely in play.
