Your post TLJ ranking of Star Wars movies

The Empire Strikes Back.
A New Hope.
Revenge of the Sith.
Return of the Jedi.
Attack of the Clones.
Rogue One
The Phantom Menace.

That councludes my list of the Star Wars movies.

 

Somehow the "wud up noobs" from one of the spoof always sticks with me when vader turns on the lightsabre. It actually enhances the moment

 

Those scene are really good. The ending is pure gold ..

 

1. ANH (ESB is the better film, but ANH will always be what started it all)
2. ESB (one of the greatest films ever made, but the first 45 minutes of ANH are somehow even more magical for me)
3. Rogue One (the prequel I dreamed of)
4. ROTJ (somewhat interchangeable with number 5, but Jabba's palace and the end duel push it over the top)
5. ROTS (the prequel that essentially saved the prequels, despite a few lingering "prequel-y, cringe-y" moments.
6. TLJ (on first viewing I ranked it just above TPM and AOTC, but it gets better with every viewing. I wouldn't be surprised if it climbs all the way up to #3 over time)
7. TFA (hugely entertaining, but Starkiller base is pretty weak and feeds the complaints of being overly-recycled, plot-wise)
8. TPM (not a good movie, by most metrics --- horrible acting and dialogue --- but beautiful to look at and strangely nostalgic now. I love it in the way you can only love a campy, flawed movie. it's mostly indefensible, but it still feels like Star Wars and that's plenty for me)
9. AOTC (the only SW movie that, at times, makes me angry. The first half is downright painful, and the second half has a fair share of profoundly annoying moments, yet there's still quite a bit to like hiding in that messy second half. Nonetheless, I only watch it when marathoning the films. It's too painful for casual viewing. For me, this is the film that makes me empathize with the prequel haters, even though I'm not one of them).

 

@darth sputnik I think it is fitting that I come in right after you....our lists are similar. Good to see Rogue One and ANH up there.

Here are my rankings

1. ANH (I raise the average age here in the Cantina quite a bit - proud to say I am one of the people here who saw the original SW in the theater in 1977, as a 13 yr old!....in my mind nothing will ever compare to ANH, never can capture that feeling I had in the theater in 1977....)
2. R1 (Loved every aspect of it, as a military guy, felt like a classic war movie)
3. TLJ (Awesome - best parts were when RJ got the little things right, the small yet powerful moments)
4. ROTS (Light saber battle at the end one of my favorite moments in SW....)
5. TESB (Yes a classic but I just loved the first 4 above better)
6. ROTJ (Ewoks.....but the 2nd best space battle of the series after R1)
7. TFA (An awful lot of fan service and Starkiller base was a cop out, but I like Rey, Finn and Poe)
8. AOTC (Clone Army battles were good....much of the rest pretty cringeworthy)
9. TPM (could be #8....probably should be higher just because of the Duel of the Fates.....)

 

I liked Rogue One fine, but I struggled with a lot of the second act. I also get turned off by the winks and nods, esp. Evazan and Ponda Baba snippet.

Having said that, I LOVE the 3rd act. I wish Vader had been more involved from beginning to end.

Having said all that, while I like RO, it 's not on the same level as TFA and TLJ.

 

Yeah it's really strange lol.

However after having read through most posts the only average picks are ANH and ESB are in most top 2's and ATOC and TPM are in the bottom. Everything else is completely all over the place.

A monstrosity of a film.

 

Not sure about TLJ position Yet because I just watched it twice. But for now is this:

1 - TESB
2 - ANH
3 - ROTJ - TFA - TLJ
4 - TPM - RO

5 - ROTS
6 - AOTC

My opinions have changed after my second viewing and TLJ has gone up well.

Though some films are at the top while some are at the bottom of the list, I love them all for what they are and excited for more to come in the future.
