Can TROS measure up to Endgame?

THIS is my Saturday morning cartoon

I give Endgame 3.5 out of 5 stars. TROS won't surpass it financially, but IMHO there is room there to create a better movie than Endgame was. Every year I assign a personal "best movie of the year" all the way back to 1946 and right now Endgame is in the lead, but certainly doesn't have 2019 locked up.

(I don't mean to suggest that I have personally been around since 1946, just that I assign a "best movie of the year" for all movies back to that year).

In my humble opinion, I honestly don't think Lion King is going to draw in major numbers. Don't get me wrong, it's going to make a lot of money but I have a feeling it's going to be the Mary Poppins of 2019. Disney was expecting Mary Poppins to be the one of the the big movies of 2018 but it didn't do so well. I honestly think Toy Story 4 will do better than the Lion King. I'll willing to venture TROS will be in the top 3 grossing movies of 2019.

 

I have a very low opinion of "The Avengers: Endgame". It's one of my least favorite MCU films. I hope . . . I pray that "Episode IX" will prove to be better.

 

I think that it will be safe to use the numbers that Aladdin pulls in to estimate what Lion King will do as it a very similar audience that will watch both

 

I think Lion King may do little better an Aladdin. There is a big elephant (well Genie) in the room that some people may or may of not like Will Smith playing the Genie due to the big presence that Robin Williams had. While Lion King has a pretty much a stellar cast. It will be interesting to see the numbers between the two movies since Lion King has had more promotion than Aladdin.

 

If James Earl Jones had passed away and then they recast him, maybe we'd see similar number, situation. But right now, I'd say Lion King is doing fine.

Agreed. The Lion King has star power (Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, Beyoncé, etc) that Aladdin didn't, and it has a solid director with a foot in two major fanbases (Star Wars and Marvel).
I have a feeling that this movie - assuming it's good (or even great) - is gonna be the Black Panther if Disney remakes. Allusions totally intended.

 

If my avatar doesn't give it away, I love Star Wars and Marvel. I think Endgame is great and look forward to The Rise of Skywalker. I'm sure to own both on 4K UHD and enjoy rewatching them many times.

 

I enjoyed Revenge of the Sith more then Engame because it a better film and story

I'm just hoping Star Wars resists the urge to go full out comedy which seems to be the norm now for big budget superhero movies.
