But Anakin's conception and desinty do mirror that of Christ, just as Aslan in the lion the witch and the wardrobe is based on Jesus, and to a lesser extend Gandalf, who more accuratly mirrors Odin.

So,the prophesy around Anakin and his immaculate conception did mirror Christ's. its not insulting to say as much, perhaps it was insulting of George Lucias to choose to use christ as a mirror of his space saviour, but to simply say Anakin is essentially 'space-Jesus' is just to mirror the intention of the film makers.

Burt, seriously. What is so offensive about Space Jesus? You and Mer can keep making false equivalency to racial slurs but that isn't good enough.
Invoking the name of Jesus even in a joking manner when discussing a character based on Jesus is not insulting in the least.

Some people dont appreciate making light of Religion...given the current political climate I can certainly understand.

EDITED address the post not the poster.

I am a woman of faith and I do find your terms insulting. If someone tells you in a friendly manner that you may offend others beliefs then why don't you respect that instead of continuing to shove the term into others faces?

Because the terms isn't derogatory to religion.
It's referencing the origins of Anakin Skywalker.

Guys, let's all calm down. Please. This is getting into dangerous territory.

    And also VERY cringey.

Racism and sexism in star wars and lucas film, its certainly a hot topic. I hope this thread stays open becuase at least this gives us all a propper place to discuss this, no matter how heated, without it flooding into other threads too much.

and I think these are big parts of TFA. Rey is even mentioned on the 'Mary Sue' Wiki, so its clearly a big deal to some.

I don't actually think any sexism or racism is going on at any level of the story telling of Star Wars, possibly there were just a few poorly concived descions around it, such as makeing Finn drink out of the trough

Lol, I'm not trying to sound like anything at all, I don't care that much, this forum is just for fun to me. But since you were the one that pointed this out along with your buddy in this thead: https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet....going-to-start-a-quote-war.12023/#post-370876

To quote your buddy: "NOT EVEN ONE of these people even gave a single comment on why they gave the negative quote."
Please explain then why you gave me two negatives in one thread. Please, refute my points, instead of the infantile use of the rating system (which you wanted to be removed in that thread btw). I'm genuinely interested in our opinion.

The problem, right now is, everyone thinks everything is a slight, mockery or racist.

When actual problems occur it makes them very difficult to discuss.

I agree with your last point too.
Lucas made some very poor decisions with certain characters that lead to very bad racial and ethnic stereotypes being used for characters. It doesn't make George racist though. Far from it. IMO

Sorry why is George relevant. TFA has a long list of stereotypes and George had nothing to do with TFA unlike KK.

All right, I will now let more experienced mods, staff members and @Viral Hide review the thread. It will be reopened in the next day or two, when the heads cool down.

That being said, it is clear we are dealing with sensitive topics in this thread and it is clear we are not going all to be on the same page. That is the point of a discussion thread.

However, derailing the thread by going off-topic, baiting other members, addressing other members personally and not their arguments and posts, using racial or any other slurs, will not be tolerated.

We are trying not to micromanage the threads to allow free discussions, but you are also responsible for the tone of the these discussions. Get used to the fact that people coming from different backgrounds, walks of life and experiences will have different worldviews than you. If they disagree with you, it is not personal attack on you. If you think that it is - use Report button, don't engage in flame wars.

The excerpt from our rules (that you should all have read when you joined anyway :p ):

    4) Please do not try to convert anyone to your way of thinking whether it be your internet browser/religion preference/or any other kind of preference or choice. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and should not be made to change theirs because you don't agree with it. If someone does ask for help with anything relating to 'their opinion', then either help them in a friendly way or ignore the thread/post.

    Thank you.
