I think the PT had great costumes, but never understood why Jedis would fly their starfighters in their kimonos and capes (very unconfortable!)

yeah and the helmet is a mix between a 12th century medieval pot helmet and later late 15th and early 16th century gothic helmet.

i don't believe that's his hair. it's the ragged edge of the hood.

i believe it's a publicity shot. or a trailer take. the actual scene is shot completely different. i'm just curious as to the intentionality of it.

oh for certain he's meant to stand apart from the FO, but it's not a trick of the light in this scene. he's not wearing the outer layers including the long surcoat and the hood. you can clearly see the pleats that go across the front of the undercoat and his legs are bare.

he's crouching in that scene (there's nothing to sit on). which is pretty creepy. how long had he been crouching there waiting for her to wake up? hahaha

but otherwise, he's fully dressed in all of the layers. he just has the hood down when the scene begins and then he takes the helmet off.

I liked Finn's clothes, reminded me of Luke
A lot of things about finn reminded me of Luke
All part of the genius let down (misdirection) I suppose. Who knows.

no really it is, it falls down from underneath the helmet. You don't see it in any other place only each time Kylo takes his helmet off in the interrogation scene and in his confrontation with Han.

well the jacket was like Luke victory jacket from A New Hope, but not exactly the same. The rest was stormtrooper black undergarment. I thought Rey's outfit really reminded me of Luke and also the Jedi costume in general.

You might never see it on the big screen again. You really should go for another viewing. It's totally worth it. Have you seen IMAX and Real 3D versions. Those you'll never see again. Perhaps in some marathon, but that will take some time.

it may be in the promotional picture ~ i can't find a hi-res enough shot, but it looks like you could be right.

but in the film the hair never sticks out of the back of the helmet. and it certainly doesn't in this actual scene when he's not wearing the hood and it should be abundantly obvious.

Kylo's outfit and mask is clearly inspired a great deal by European knights (his lightsaber by a medieval broadsword as well). And the other pseudo-medieval and Arthurian references littered throughout the film are interesting. It's something different, and I found it kind of cool to be honest.

I hope that they don't change his look too much going forward. It's a cool look, and part of what made Vader so iconic is that his look didn't change much from film to film. There were minor aesthetically alterations, but they were subtle enough that many in the audience probably didn't even notice them.

no I mean in the specific shots were he takes his helmet off and you suddenly see his very well conditioned hair lol. In those shots you do see his hair sticking out. My brother first thought it had something to do with fact that Driver was only taking off a mask instead of an helmet, but now when I see this pic, I see the exact same curly hair of exactly the same length. You only see it in those two specific shots. In the rest of the movie you never see his hair sticking out. If you look carefully, but in this I might be wrong, you even see his chin?

actually both shots are cut at the exact moment he takes the helmet off.

probably because otherwise he'd have mangy helmet hair and we wouldn't get that Loreal moment (hahaha). immediately preceding the removal of the helmet in both cases, his hair is tucked away. there's no logic to it other than a directorial choice to make the hair part of what differentiates his personality with and without the mask.

it's most obvious when he's stomping around Starkiller without his hood. there are numerous of close-up shots of the back of his head.

edit: yep, looks like in the promotional shot that's definitely his hair:

    R.I.P. The Finn-Poe Jacket

    Screen Shot 2016-02-14 at 10.13.00 AM.png

so it kinda just occurred to me that this jacket, which plays such a big part of Finn's transition from Stormtrooper to Resistance ally is an actual casualty of the film.

that thing must have been destroyed by Kylo Ren's lightsaber given the severity of Finn's injuries.

i'll miss the jacket in viii, but it'll be interesting to see Finn's new look!

It has a cut in the back, but that can always be repaired/patched up.

Did anyone notice Poe is wearing a green resistance officer's uniform in the scene where the resistances waves goodbye to Rey and Chewie?

I'm pretty sure that Poe is meant to be an officer in The Resistance (what his actual rank is, IDK).

If he would be on a aircraft carrier type vessel he would be CAG. But since he operates from a fixed base probably Wing Commander or Lieutenant-Commander if they follow the RAF rank designations. Star Wars lore is keen in using the "captian" or "commander" designation for any significant character in command.

Luke's collar is definitely inspired by his black outfit in ROTJ, but the rest sure has an Obi Wan feel to it. Note how the whites are prominent but the cloak is greyish.
