Crazy how quickly the forum changes...

And that's why I love this thread - the voice of reason amidst a cacophony of suffering and grief .
No, really: I get people having issues with certain aspects of a movie. I really enjoyed TFA, still there are some things that bother me with every viewing (like the director obviously not caring about Starkiller making sense, sacrificing in-universe logic for great visuals). Without having seen TLJ (I will tomorrow), I can honestly say that I will never come out of a new Star Wars movie saying "I hated it". They've never been all bad, and they never will.

 

I've seen a few spoiler-free reviews just today and a highly credible person I go to for reviews on Youtube (Happyconsolegamer) Can't understand how some fans think of this film as so drastically different that it change Star Wars or ruins it forever. If the end all be all to this film is wanting to figure out who Rey's parents are? prepare to be disappointed and hate the movie; If Rian did that we'd just be making TESB again, more rehashing, the fandom is outraged, and around in circles we go. I think it comes down to fans letting themselves down with expectation. I keep posting about it, but it's true. Temper those expectations! They can ruin any film.

 

I am totally beginning to just ignore the haters and whiners. I have yet to read a coherent argument providing any substance to the dislike of the movie.

TLJ is one of my favorites. I say just stick to the posts that resemble how you feel about the movie and spread the joy and love of this movie. That won't be a difficult thing to do as this movie is apparently loved by many. It will be very close to TFA revenue numbers

 

I’ve seen this before, in other imploding fandoms. Welcome to the new state of the SW fandom until IX comes out! It’ll finally die down after there are no movies on the horizon to judge! Maybe.

I’d get if someone argued that they didn’t like it because with constructive criticism, or if it wasn’t their cup of tea.

But to lob accusations of racism/sexism/general hatred at it, while not really saying why, or with vague reasoning, or specifically because one characters arc didn’t fit their specific head canon exactly, is just plain stupid.

 

I kind of hope all the ones saying they are abandoning SW actually do (they won't). It's like Hollywood types saying they will leave the country if Candidate X wins the election. Last I checked, all of those shrieks are still here unfortunately.

Just wait until Solo comes out. Gawd I can already feel the whining.

Oh and btw: according to the haters, Episode 9 already sucks......before it even starts filming. Just get used to it, and then go enjoy the films.

 

Yeah and they keep spamming their reasons why they don’t get it like it’ll magically change the minds of those who do like it.

It’s like, we get it, you hate it. You don’t need to post the same reason 50 times on how and why RJ messed up SW.

 

the same with the gushers with spamming how much they like it and they try to tell us 9000 times that we are so wrong disliking it. So why not accepting people who hate it and people who like it. Both should just accept it that other people have the complete different opinion without making fun of them.

It has always been this way, ever since the prequels came out. Hating and venting are just ways of dealing with grief. Now there really shouldn't be actual grief associated with fictional entertainment, but I guess it feels like that for fans whose fandom harbors on obsession. I absolutely tolerate having different opinions about a movie - that's to be expected. But I can't tolerate the way some users talk to each other lately (yeah, it's still talking, even if it's not face to face).
