When Pablo is asked why the Darth Plagueis book is not canon

A book can be great and non-canon. In this case, it's backstory didn't line up with George's.

    What part of the backstory?
Lucas was very much involved in this book. He guided Luceno, telling him the background of Plagueis and Palpatine.
If the de-canonisation was down to Lucas then there must've been something that contradicted it when he began writing the ST...

Why is that? Lucas changes his mind all the time. The massive changes in OT that fundamentally alter characters are technically things that prove that they "didn't line up with Georges vision" and he "fixed" them.

For all we know lucas had a complete 180 on plagueis and didn't like the book back story. So they didn't make the story canon.

I don't think that the ST is what George envisioned either though. He said multiple times that he would've taken the story into a different direction.
IMO, this sounds like an excuse. They wouldn't have decanonized the novel if it hadn't contradicted a story they are planning on doing in the future.

Lucas sold his company in 2012. Why would he worry about de-canonising the Plagueis novel? Even if he didn't sell up, what part of that novel and its background had any relevance to anything else Lucas was creating? And like I said, Lucas provided Luceno with the background for that novel - clearly, something related to that novel changed in Lucas' mind whilst developing something else.

Most importantly, Pablo has gone back on what he originally said. He said that all pre-2014 novels were blanked de-canonised. Now he is saying Lucas didn't like the backstory to the DP novel!

Clearly, Lucas gave Luceno a backstory to DP novel in 2010/11. Then in 2012 Lucas is in the stages of writing the ST. He decides that Plagueis is the way to go. But there is stuff in the DP novel that doesn't work anymore - being part of a banking clan, being a Muun etc. So he changes it and moves to de-canonise the DP novel and make sure that DP's species isn't mentioned in the Tarkin novel.

JJ comes on board and throws out a lot of Lucas' ideas. But then later on in development realises also that Plagueis is the way to go - and creates a villain that is very different from the female, hammer horror idea he originally had.

Pablo tries to divert the fans away from Plagueis and has now shown to be lying about stuff directly relating to him. On top of this, Pablo recently said that he doesn't comment on anything other that what has been revealed in canon. Snoke origins have yet to be revealed...

They decanonised everything that wasn't 100% official. Remember the canon "clean slate". ??

That allowed them to do things like Thrawn from scratch, but it also allows them to wipe away things they no longer wanted.

Yes - and as I said above twice now, Pablo has now come out and said the Plagueis novel was de-canonised because Lucas didn't want that backstory! Nothing about it being a clean slate canon wipe.

People always wondered why "the best SW novel" was decanonised. They would've known how good it was. Luceno would've been very disappointed. So why go through with it? Because Lucas wanted to change the backstory - not because it was part of the clean slate approach.

Of course I do, but why did Pablo not just say that?
Master_shaitan's post is a very plausible explanation IMO.

because they still care what lucas thought about canon?

How on earth is that "going back on what he said" plagueis was de-canonised with the rest, one of the reasons was that lucas didn't like the backstory. All pablo is saying is that there were additional factors.

Complete and utter speculation with nothing to back it up. There has been absolutely zero hints or informed speculation that Lucas was writing Plagueis into his ST.

Pablo has addressed Plagueis so much, and how he's not snoke it's incredible how people dismiss his comments because they don't like the narrative.

"In this case, its backstory didn't line up with George's" - Pablo Hidalgo.
No mention on this being "an additional focus" but in fact, it being the reason.

    This. 100%.

Pablo has become twisted in his lies and deceit. Team Plagueis claim yet another scalp.

    In before the lock.

Yeah, in this case, Plagueis was also added to the "clean slate" because of George.

They aren't mutually exclusive, you can start a "clean slate" de-canonising everything, and have reasons for why X was added to the "clean slate"

I don't think Pablo has ever lied about Snoke not being Plagueis. Neither did JJ.
After all, Snoke is just Snoke in TFA and they always referred to that movie.
But we all know Snoke is not just Snoke in VIII. :p

LOL people are stating Lucas chose Plagueis for his version of the ST and that JJ fell back to the Plagueis story after he changed direction. With zero evidence.

    Yet pablo is the liar?

The Tweet asked Pablo why the DP novel was de-canonised. Pablo said before that it was because there was a clean slate of novels written before 2014.
Why not just say that again? I mean, that would be the reason it was de-canonised. It is irrelevant if Lucas didn't like the backstory.
Pablo has clearly slipped up here and contradicted himself. He replies to the Tweet that it was de-canonised because Lucas didn't want that backstory.
Big difference which again, like everything else, works into the original Plagueis idea that we have been writing about for months!

In my original posts I was saying that Lucas' involvement in this novel was suspicious. I always said that there seemed to be a cross-over between the novel and the the conception of the ST. And I have always felt that when Lucas would've sat down to write the ST that he would've looked to Plagueis.

And now Pablo, the only person who has tried to put down the Plagueis theory, has been shown to contradict himself on the matter.

    97% just became 99%...

    There's plenty of evidence.
JJ's original idea of Snoke is vastly different to the Snoke we have now. A character design that was suspiciously only completed weeks before the completion of the film.

    What is more likely:

That Lucas chose a character he came up with in the PT that fit into the Darth Vader story, to be the villain?

    Or

That he came up with a villain that had no backstory or design and that had to be completed by JJ a few weeks before the film was done?

Clearly, Lucas had a different villain in mind. JJ changed it. And then changed it back.

So when they chucked out all the old stuff, going through all the old EU content, you don't think there was even a discussion about why they were throwing out the canon?

A clean slate to canon, with reasons why they are de-canonising the things they did. Simple.

Ask Pablo. He's the one that said that all novel pre-2014 would be thrown out to avoid any canon issues.
So no, it doesn't sound like they had a conversation about the details from each and every book from that.

considering i'm actively hoping snoke isn't plagueis, as i don't want plagueis to exists in the ST beyond a footnote in the canon, i doubt it ;)

Go make all the prequels/stand alones you want about him. I'm praying to every deity known throughout the human history that they don't ruin snoke with plagueis.
