Does anyone care about the characters that are left for Episode IX?

I'm still interested in Poe, Finn, and Kylo, but they've made Rey very dull and unlikable. Her attitude toward Luke Skywalker was a huge turnoff. Rose was cool until Rian reduced her to romantic cliche.

The big problem with these characters though is they are in the most boring story possible: one that currently doesn't exist beyond rehashed Empire/Rebel elements.

 

The best that they can do is develop the new characters in Ep. 9 very carefully following what was done in OT. Anything concerning past characters will have to be done through flashbacks or references.

 

If Rey and Ben don't finally get together in IX there will be a lot of blueballs and blueclits walking out of theaters Dec. 2019.

That's a terrible analogy. Being smart does not intrinsically put a child in danger. I really don't understand how you can argue that Ben was a helpless victim who was turned evil by a preditor that only wanted Ben because of his "gift", and at the same time argue that Ben's "gift" did not put him in danger.

That hasn't been established - but like most personality traits, I would assume it's just an aspect of his personality.

Not the kind of sustainable long term abuse that would be necessary to turn someone evil. But the fact is we have no idea what went on between Ben and Snoke - it hasn't been established. He may have just offered Ben something that appealed to him.

The assumption was that he couldn't hide it. But following your line of reasoning, Leia would have to be a horrible monster of a person to simply ignore that kind of pain in her own child. Not only does that not fit the character, it doesn't go along with what's in the movies. We know she sent Ben to Luke because of the darkness she sensed in him. So its clear that, she was trying to help him.

if the number of heroes is so small, it is possible to return some old characters .. Maybe Darth Jar Jar?

meanwhile, i can't wait to see Poe take the reins in ix.
i really hope he has more time with Finn and they get to run down corridors and shoot at things together.
