Disney does. Oh boy do they. It'll shape how they'll approach the franchise, marketing, everything.

Following BO results is a personal hobby of mine. I was fascinated by how well dead pool and IT, and several smaller franchises, did at the BO. And researched exactly why.

    I know I sound like a nerd:)

Is there anything that doesn't confirm your bias against the film?
    It's not.
This thread is more about the exaggerated backlash against the film. So far the box office is in line with expectations and yet look at the hyperbole about the expected box office.

Uhm excuse me but how the hell do you know I am biased? I mean I know you are, given that I have constantly seen you discredit people who disliked the movie in this forum. Look, I'm just trying to analyze irregularities in patterns to see if there might be a problem or not. I see an irregularity in how defensive Rian is about his movie and how JJ had to pitch his story to the Disney boss himself, I look at constantly dropping ratings and the most rapid decline in BO in the franchise (read the forbes article the numbers are there) and I cannot simply ignore these irregularities because its a SW movie. I would recomend yout o do the same adnd please stop discrediting other oppinions just because you seem to think it's a flawless masterpiece.

I get that some don't like the film, I do. Great. But seriously, there is a concerted effort to hurt the box office of the film and thus, the franchise. If you on't like it, cool. But going online and creating fake accounts to give it numerous bad reviews on RT (as one example) is just stupid.

Having said that, it was NEVER going to compare (box office wise) to TFA. As numerous people have said, the middle episode of a trilogy tends to do poor in relation to the opening film. The odd ball being that, if I remember correctly, the Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring did slightly less than part 2, The Two Towers.

I'd say it'll do better than Rogue One, but significantly worse than TFA. I'm sure the people who decide to not see it because of the negative Nancy's out there will watch it on DVD and decide they should have seen it anyway.

Box office receipts does not dictate how good a film is.

TLJ could make 3 times more than Titanic....but it will still be worse than Titanic. Which is scary.

Everyone is biased. To deny that is to deny we're human.
JJ pitching the next film the day the movie comes out means something? Your grasping at straws like that and you're upset I'm saying you're biased?

Then so is the OT, PT, and franchises like Jurassic World, Indiana Jones, Marvel, and James Bond.

    No

I can watch the original Sean Connery James Bond films over and over again. Likewise with Indiana Jones and the Jason Bourne trilogy.

Yeah, but in their day they were seen as lowbrow “popcorn flicks” or the decade equivalent. They improved with age. TLJ may be the same.

    Rubbish...they were not popcorn flicks.

Having said that, when I saw ANH at the cinema they stopped the film halfway through so we could buy an ice cream. Does anybody remember that ?

The original Star Wars, Indiana Jones, James Bond have stood the test of time. I would add the JB trilogy as well.....I hope.

    TLJ, methinks not. Popcorn. Forgotten.

This movie was a huge hit the minute they called it Star Wars. That doesn't mean its a good movie.

We live in a different age.

    I blame the internet.

RJ did not do enough in that film to make it timeless. Sorry, its popcorn.

“The Last Jedi’s grosses are collapsing”

Nobody wanted to see this depressing movie. People wanted to see further adventurers of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo etc, not go to their funerals. Audiences are leaving confused and sad. They simply do not care about the new characters as much and think the originals deserved better endings. That is why TLJ is losing it’s audience....Nobody wants to go back for a second viewing to be depressed/disappointed.

    Come again?
There is either a semantics problem here or you have an odd commitment to changing the common meaning of certain categories.

Go check the box office numbers in the other thread. This movie is on par closer to Rogue One then compared to TFA. There is no way this movie should be doing the same coin as Rogue One as that was a movie that had all new characters, compared to TLJ that had the iconic Luke Skywalker. There is a backlash and the numbers will continue to prove it over the next week.

Now it that context, the movie isn't bombing and SW isn't dead as it will survive. But it has pissed a lot of fans off like me, and it may have to reevaluate who they are marketing to in the long run.
