I think this era of social media proves what Master Yoda said was right:

Luke: Is the Dark Side stronger?
Yoda: No. It’s quicker, easier, more seductive.

Always remember that with thousands of views there will always be a few dozen people spitting out their hatred in the comments section.

I bought the TLJ in 4K on the 9th April when it was released in the UK. I decided to watch all the bonus material before watching the film for the 1st time since the cinema.

I am one of those people who love watching "the making of" documentaries and deleted scenes. After watching "The director and the Jedi" I did have a much better understanding of what Rian Johnson was trying to achieve and I did enjoy the documentary. One thing that did stand out was how dejected Mark Hamill seemed which was sad to see.

The deleted scenes where a mixed bag. I was glad most of these scenes were axed from the film however there were a couple I wish were included, the scene where Luke shows his emotion for Han's death, I mean really, this scene runs for less than one minute and was so powerful so why not include it?

The other scene which I thought should have been included was Rey's lesson with the Caretakers party as it was an important lesson for her, although I didn't think much of the cgi of her running over the rocky beach.

After watching the film again and taking the documentary into consideration , I can honestly say that my opinion of the film has not changed at all. The issues I had on first viewing are still there, what is more frustrating is that the scenes I mentioned above were left out as I think it would have improved this film. It's especially frustrating when you see in the documentary how much time, money and effort was put into the completely terrible and pointless scene of Luke milking that sea creature.

I loved this scene and I don't think it was pointless. I also helps establish Luke's day-to-day activities. Which is even funnier when Rey says "you're not busy." It very much reminds me a Yoda when Luke first meets him in ESB.

It didn't add anything to the film for me and you could have established Luke's daily activities in a different way, I just feel that the axed scenes I mentioned were far more important to the film.

TLJ was mediocre when I first saw it and it still is. However the movie is actually gettinga bit worse each time I watch it because it can be painfully boring and longwinded at times. I really need to do a recut and remove most of Canto Bight and the Supremacy chasing after the Raddus.

It is mind numbing that the Canto Bight chase scene was originally designed to be longer than it ultimately ended up being.

It must be exhausting wasting so much time on something you hate. It's just easier to ignore it and spend time on things you like.

I walked away from TLJ going "Yes, this is what I wanted from the movie. I'm glad everything happened the way it did."

A few months later, I've only seen it once, and now I'm in that "this was a bad movie" camp. Even more depressing, I might even be in the "Star Wars is dead to me" camp. I'll have to wait and see what Solo brings.

Weirdly enough, the more I watch this movie, the more I love it, BUT the more I realize how much certain things don't work for me. The Canto Bight stuff, the "General Hugs" bit, the "Don't fight what you hate" thing while the bad guys are literally about to kill all their friends--these things have only gotten worse for me after multiple views.

But my appreciation for the rest has grown greatly, especially my appreciation for Holdo (one of the best new characters in this trilogy, IMHO) and for the final showdown of Luke and Kylo.

it took a while for the showdown to really settle for me. i still get itchy when i watch it, but i love it.
it makes me uncomfortable but in a good way now.

General Hugs never bothered me. Snoke throwing him face down on the deck bothered me the first time i watched it and still bothers me. perhaps because i remember people laughing at it in the theatre more than anything else. same with that moment when Snoke hits Rey in the back of the head with the lightsaber. not funny! : o p

Purely negativity from others making you feel that way or something else? You said you've only seen it the one time is the only reason I ask.

People who hate want everyone to hate. If you don't hate they hate you. They prefer a safe place, a thread, with only people who hate. It is their perception of an ideal society. Where everyone thinks like they do. A tad totalitarian, but still innocent.

Finally rewatching again in home in blu ray, well for me it´s a good SW movie, not perfect, scenes lile Canto Bight should be more shorter or better worked.

See I never had a problem with it either. I was surprised at the backlash it got. It was felt perfectly in place doing what you said, establishing Luke's hermit life on the Island. Star Wars always had a bit of alien quirkiness to it. There were other scenes to get pissed about not that one. Maybe if the milk looked like clean, fresh milk or something it wouldn't have been as big a deal.

First viewing opening night solid 7/10. Second viewing IMAX few days later 5/10 (and would have avoid to go if I hadn´t the tickets already). Then after several days and deep analisys the rating went down to 0/10. To me this movie just don´t hold together.

Now that I've rewatched it on several platforms multiple times, I'd say not much has changed. I've loved this movie in cinema and now I love it even more. I think its a very smart movie which enables for some proper conversation and deconstruction.

I've been conflicted and confused when I first saw TLJ. Now I like it. Not "OMG love it", but like it. It's positives outweight it's negatives and, I am sure, it would be see as a SW classic in the future.
