The Last Jedi, for me, has gone through the craziest cycle of opinions I've ever had about a movie:

First viewing: shocked, mildly disappointed, unable to process everything I'd just seen.

Second Viewing: enjoyed it once the shock was gone, but still had a few niggling gripes about Snoke's lack of backstory.

(time between theatrical viewings and home video release: LOTS of over-thinking and hyper-critical dissection of the movie, plus TONS of reading various opinions and essays online. Not coincidentally, I started to HATE the movie...)

Third viewing at home: realized that all my criticisms, when taken outside of the context of actually watching the film, were ridiculous. Absolutely LOVED the film on third viewing. And fourth. And fifth.

Is it perfect? Of course not. Unfortunately, I just don't enjoy Rose's time on screen. While every other character oozes charisma and owns the screen, she just feels like an amateur actor who adds nothing to the overall story (thus making the Canto Bight section the weakest). But at this point I can confidently defend virtually every decision RJ made in this film, even if they weren't always the decisions I personally would have made.

    Current ranking:

    1. A New Hope
    2. Empire Strikes Back
    3. Return of the Jedi
    4. Rogue One
    5. Revenge of the Sith
    6. The Last Jedi
    7. The Force Awakens
    8. The Phantom Menace
    9. Attack of the Clones

I agree with this.... I'm disappointed not to get more Luke, but ultimately this isn't his story. Just like the OT isn't Obi-Wan's story. The film is full of great moments. I actually really like Rose. I realize she didn't work for everyone, but it worked for me. She adds a human element to the film that didn't exist before and she opens up Finn's eyes about the fight.

I've seen the movie two times. And honestly? No, my opinion has not changed.

I really thought my opinion would change once I got to see the movie at home and digest it some more, but overall my opinion hasn’t changed much. There are the bones of a very interesting story in the film and I genuinely appreciate that RJ does really love SW, but I still think he completely dropped the ball with TLJ.

I still cringe at virtually all of the bad SNL-type humor. There are just too many dumb juvenile moments in the film - from slot machine BB-8 to Finn in the leaking suit and the opening phone call...I don’t find any of them funny (Chewy and the Porgs I can live with). Worst of all remains the entire Canto storyline and the terrible CGI does it no favors.

What probably disappoints me most though is the Leia Poppins scene. Seeing Leia use the Force could have been one of the most powerful and moving moments in ANY SW film...instead we got Leia flying through space with awful CGI. Just an absurd visual in the movie.

I remain bummed by the movie. Really hoping JJ can deliver with IX.

On the plus side - I love The Director and the Jedi documentary. I found it more moving than TLJ.

Unlike TFA the more i watch TLJ the more i dislike it.

How i rank live action canon.

    1. ROTS
    2. ANH
    3. TESB
    4. ROTJ
    5. R1 ASWS
    6. AOTC
    7. TPM
    8. TFA
    9. TLJ. Probably last 4ever.

The only way Solo can be worse 4 me than TLJ is if they make Han a "total loser".

The only way Episode 9 can be worse then TLJ 4 me is if extras start "celebrating the death of the Skywalkers" at the end of 9.

I've seen TLJ only once, but I remember it pretty well. I also remember how I felt during and after.

I've tried to like aspects of the movie, appreciate portions of it, accept and even forcefully suspend my disbelief on certain scenes. The problem I have is that practically every scene has an issue that bugs me on some level. At this point I can't see how my opinion will ever change.

All that said, I've read from a few people on here that they got to appreciate it after more viewings. Maybe without the shock value, I won't get pulled out of the experience and be able to appreciate it more. It's possible. It better get to Netflix before Disney has their own channel though, because I won't pay to watch it again.

It was one of the most powerful moments in any Star Wars film. Amazing moment captured spectacularly.

You only saw the film once and this is a thread about opinions changing after multiple viewings.

Unfortunately the movie got worse and worse after multiple viewings. Mainly because I was waiting for the good stuff (Kylo, Luke, the fight scene in the throne room etc.).
Right now, I would rank this movie as my 6th favorite Star Wars movie. But this will probably change.

My experience was great and weird during the first viewing.
Second time I enjoyed a little bit more.
Third and fourth times I realised that TLJ is a top 3 saga film and a masterpiece.

I wouldn't call it a dramatic change, but I was extremely confused the first time I saw it (mainly because of my elaborate expectations). Then I started analysing and accepting it for what it is and I grew to love it immensely. So it wasn't a change, more like a process. Even now, the more I think about TLJ the better it gets. It has some flaws, but nothing major.

I don't do rankings, I honestly don't think it's possible, because I treat it as a whole and love all films for different things. However, if I had to pick my three favourites in no particular order, it would be TESB, RotS and TLJ.

I enjoyed the film on my first and second (more than tipsy) theater viewings.

Since then, I'd let myself consider some of the criticisms, and my opinion of the film darkened just a little bit.

However, having watched it at home now, I can say it's easily one of my favorite films in the series. Can't believe I let myself be so swayed by the unwarranted pessimism surrounding this film.

Am I the only person who's ever actually seen RotS? Am I tripping out here?

This tells me so much about people who dislike TLJ.

AOTC cannot objectively been any higher than #9. It's Star Wars, so I have some love for it, but its an AWFUL film....objectively.
