that's an interesting theory! i think it was dropped that the planet was uninhabited prior to the battle of Jakku, but who knows! maybe it's an ancient ruin or something.

Right, the guy that claims to be friends with an author who was hired to write a book about MvS and his crew. Now if that is the case and it is uninhabited then yes, my thought process is a fail lol.

But I'm thinking that there's just no way its not habited in some way. If the planet is uninhabited or void of any civilization prior to the first battle of Jakku then what is the significance of Jakku? If there is a Rebel Outpost or Jedi Temple (even if that's all there is, like Hoth was.) Then that is the significance that Jakku needs in order for the Empire to dispatch a fleet led by a Super Star Destroyer.

"New Republic" fought against "Key Imperial holdouts on Jakku"
Was it inhabited aside from these "holdouts"?
If it was inhabited, it was most likely simply another planet under Imperial control, and possibly one that served as a rallying point for these holdouts in the Outer Rim.
If it was uninhabited, then something of great importance was on this planet.. Strategically, I assume. Ancient Jedi/Sith artifacts/temple? Important resources? Maybe the position of the planet itself was all that was important?

Addition: I don't think Rey would be on a planet inhabited solely by Imperials, though.
Considering that Humans lived in the village from the trailer, we have no evidence of any natives, that I am aware of.

I couldn't agree more, if Rey is a Solo/Skywalker why would she live on a planet with a bunch of Imperials?

I mentioned this b4 in another thread... How About after the Jakku battle they are left to suffer and rot when the Empire doesn't bother to help the expendable survivors. They all learn to hate the Empire for abandoning them.... but the Rebels finally show up (Luke,Han,Leia? maybe) and take pity on them. They befriend and help them with supplies etc for colonizing Jakku with rejected peoples who are now loyal to the Rebels/Resistance. Basically saving their lives

It was only imperials 30 years ago. The idea now is that its a common place for smugglers, scavangers, and pirates because of the wreckage. And even those imperials aren't really imperials anymore. They were abandoned and likely hold no alleience to the First Order. Assuming the spoiler is true.

I surmise the Battle of Jakku was the final major battle in the war with the Empire. The synopsis of the new Aftermath novel indicates a rebel spy learns of a secret Imperial meeting following the destruction of the Death Star at Endor. There's a huge all-imperial BBQ and pool party at Jakku, the Rebels launch a sneak attack to wipe out what remains of Imperial leadership, and the battle ensues. Hence the major destruction on the planet (downed X-Wing, Imperial II Star Destroyer, Super Star Destroyer).

Survivors either go all Khan and band together to colonize the planet, or intermingle with indigenous people. MvS is an Imperial Captain who leads his people in survival, but is incensed that the Empire never rescued them, possibly unaware the Empire no longer exists following the battle.

Remnants of the Empire coalesce around a new Sith Lord, who organizes them into a sort of ISIS-like extremists group founded on harsh Sith ideology. Rumors about following Vader's strict Sith beliefs could account for his helmet being a thing of reverence, and why Kylo Ren is possibly searching for Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber. They're holy relics, and Kylo and Uber are holy warriors.

At some point a band of Sith extremists attack and totally destroy Luke's Jedi academy, killing almost everyone and/or kidnapping them, and which I believe is on Tatooine. The shot of Luke in the trailer looks like Jakku, but it's not. I'd bet money it's Tatooine. The planet has as much significance to the series as the characters, and it won't be left out. It also makes sense for Luke to set up his school there, possibly even at Obi Wan's homestead. That would be a fantastic tribute.

This is just how my brain is piecing this all together.

The question I still have is who are Kylo Ren and Kira Rey? Sibling survivors of the academy slaughter? Kylo was abducted and brainwashed to be a Sith warrior. Kira escaped with Rose but forsook her Jedi teachings, deciding on a life of solitary hermitude on Jakku. I don't believe she was sent there by her parents, who are pretty obviously wither Han and Leia, or Luke and some as of yet unseen mother. I think their parents believe them both to be dead, and only learn they're both still alive during the course of the film.

Has this been suggested yet? Maybe MvS's character - the commanding officer, or captain of a downed star destroyer - is Captain Phasma. If his backstory as presented by the OP is correct, then he'd be the most logical fit, wouldn't he? Who knows what sort of rank and title the chrome trooper would have, but here we've had a bonafide captain sitting right in front of us all this time.

Sorry if redundant. Hadn't seen this idea posted before.

I think the new Aftermath novel will feature the battle pretty extensively. I suspect the intervening 30 years will be well documented in books, comics, games, and possibly an anthology film or three. [IMG]

But what could Finn possibly see or hear in Kylo's room that would make him know he is a fraud? Even if Finn saw the charred Vader helmet that's not proof enough for him to go around saying that's not the real Vader as Kylo can simply say his armor was damaged in the battle of Endor and even if Finn heard Snoke or somebody else call Kylo him by his true name, that wouldn't be enough for him to go on aether as hardly anybody knew who was under Vader's armor and least of all his true name. Only Sheeve's closest people knew that Vader was Anakin Skywalker and that was a closly guarded secret. Also, Finn is a young man who doesn't look to be older than 30 so even if he rose quickly in the ranks he would have still grouwn up much after Vader was killed so I really doubt that he would have access to such valuble info about who Vader truly was and it would be rather silly as well to have Finn simply pass by Kylo's room and overhear Snoke saying ''Nobody knows you're not the real Vader....'' and then go running away. So the question still stands, what big event could happen for Finn to think that Kylo wasn't Vader?
