SPECULATION Is Leia Going to Be Killed in TLJ?

i've gotta say... how depressing is it talking about Leia's future in the Star Wars saga?

just playing catchup and reading the last couple of pages... jeez it turns the stomach. not what people are writing.. just the realization that the story needs to continue, and that it will continue without Carrie.

not sure i agree with this. I don't think Kylo has a single clue about what he wants.

my gut instinct is that She will be killed by Snoke/Hux/Phasma and that will have a devastating effect on Kylo.. or should i say Ben. That would presume that her death was planned and filmed for ep 8, which does go against earlier comments from Trevorrow.

depressing as that would be..

ep7 Han dies
ep8 Leia Dies
ep9.. Luke? Baby Seals?

Seeing Han die on screen was quite enough for me if i'm honest.. a little part of me would be happy with a re-cast and for the remaining OT cast to make the end of the saga.

 

Kylo? correct... Kylo won't give a damn.

Ben on the other hand.... hehe

 

If Disney wants Redemption for Ben/Ren, a FO death of Leia can make Ben/Ren's turn realistic. I don't c Luke or "Reylo" bringing "Ben" bak.

 

best case scenario, in my mind: she has a coma in VIII, her passing is acknowledged briefly in the crawl, force ghosts / luke / whoever use it to redeem the one shred of light kylo still has in him. kylo mourning his mother could potentially be very powerful, and give the audience a chance to grieve with the character.

I think Leia was already written in TLJ to be killed off.. thus why Lucasfilm & KK have had such an easy and straight response about Carrie not being in 9.

 

KK did say that there were re-writes for IX though. There has clearly been some impact on the story.

 

Then y did director CT say (I'm paraphrasing) " I have big plans for Luke AND Leia in 9! " ????

Unless he wanted to make Leia a ghost in 9, was that was a terrible misdirect?

 

I've just been trying to look that up. and it's interesting that you used the word 'paraphrasing'.. as most of the sites that quote him are doing exactly that.

unless someone can find him saying something more specific.. i don't see him say that Leia will be in ep9 directly.

nor should he actually when you think about it. talking about which characters will be in 9 before we see 8 should be a complete no-no.

 

Honestly, I had no idea CT said that.. (source please?) so I take back my initial comment.

 

Maximus brought up the statement that resembles my paraphrase in the nearest. As Maximus pointed it out others have taken CT's statement as a "Leia Lives" view.

I just want Leia's end 2 be great. Having her mentioned as "passed on" in 9's Crawl is lame.

 

hmm.. interesting. I'd personally say that quote from CT is up for speculation and will appear different to different people, but hey-ho... I guess that's what perception is all about

 

I can't think of a better scenario for the writers in thid sad situation we're in.

It was Shmi's death that started Anakin down that dark path. It could be Leia's death that puts Ben back 2 the light.

I believe it's in video form which is why you probably can't find a text quote. I'm at work at the moment so I can't currently find it.

 

What other option is there?
As its been discussed, no alterations were made to 8. The plan was for here to feature in 9. They aren't going to use image to re-create her digitally and it's been confirmed she won't be in it. So either she isn't shown at all, or her death is mentioned in the crawl. I think her not featured at all is much worse than her death happening off screen. Don't you think? An important character like Leia and she's not mentioned or seen is much worse than having her death off screen.

 

It is very enticing to think about what they're going to do about Leia because of Carrie's unexpected sad death, respectfully. I think what's going to happen is have Leia be in a base and that base ends up getting destroyed but that is something really quick that I thought of, a mere example. I hope whatever they think of it pays tribute to the actress very well. But what @Paul Resendes said doesn't sound that bad to me.

 

I mean just show her not getting out of that possibly filmed coma. Is that 2 much 2 ask? The first scene of Ben/Ren in 9 could be of him "getting the news". We can share r pain w/ him.

 

They are going to do their best to do it with class. The family will likely be behind whatever they do. Some fans will express outrage.
