The thing is I don't think Rey turinig to Dark Side is a must be.
I'm sure she will be tempeted, becouse that's the deal with every Jedi (them all fight - and usually win - with their own dark side) and above all becouse that's the deal of every true hero's journey. You know... the call of destiny, the refusal at the very beginning, then the acceptance of that destiny, then the big bad issue to overcome, etc...
I'm not saying she won't turn. I'm just saying they can fallow the hero's path without her to do it. So, it's not a must be.

Oh I'm not saying she has to turn, just that she must be strongly tempted and we the audience can't know what she will ultimately choose. But the strong temptation has to be there. I personally think that'll be hard to achieve if Luke is her dad. Not impossible of course but the options for great conflict are thinner.

Also, we know Daisy was coached to speak with an inner world accent. This might be the biggest clue about her origins. That seems to conflict with a Solo heritage since neither Leia/Han talk that way. This suggests she's tied to aristocracy/Empire/New Republic in some fashion.

Alice Eve's Carol Wallace (Marcus) had an English accent while her father played by Peter Weller as Admiral Marcus did not in JJ Abrams's Star Trek Into Darkness.

So her mother probably had an English accent. Point is, one of the parents did.

I'm not clear what Star Trek has to do with how accents have been used in the past in the Star Wars universe.
Correct. It would be odd if Rey is the daughter of Han/Leia but picked up a inner world accent living on Jakku. Perhaps her caretakers from birth to her being left on Jakku had accents. That would probably work.

Has it occurred to anyone that Rey likely picked up that accent from the computer she salvaged and used to learn a lot of things including several languages? We know from the forceback that 5yr old Rey didn't speak with an inner world accent so she didn't get it from her parents but developed it after she was abandoned on Jakku. She was alone and likely didn't talk to anyone beyond Plutt who also spoke with a bit of a British accent so the only voice she would have heard regularly was the computer's.

I think we can go too "in-universe" with this stuff. Just for the ease of audience understanding (the target audience being kids), it's wise to keep these things straight forward. Rey's accent is likely because her parents, be it real or adopted, spoke with the Imperial accent.

The computer would be pretty straightforward and wouldn't contradict the Forceback. Frankly, kids aren't going to care where her accent came from.

But you don't want to have to explain it in the film. By having parents with the same accent you are shown and not told.

No one seems to care about her accent except us so I'm not sure it has to be explained. None of the characters she meets in the movie seem to care about her accent and we have proof that she didn't have it when she was abandoned on Jakku so she had to pick it up on Jakku. The most likely source is the salvaged computer.

Really? Was there enough dialogue to draw this conclusion?
Except the producers who cared enough about it to coach her for the film.

Accents aren't genetic and little Rey (played by a little Mississippi kid) had no discernible English accent.

I think "discernible" is the key phrase here because she didn't speak enough to draw a conclusion. Accents are also not accidental. Rey has an inner world accent, the actress was coached to give an inner world accent, and it stands to reason that it's a clue of some kind.

Generally speaking the core worlds like Coruscant humans have an English accent. This explains the accents for many of the imperial officers. Planets on the inner rim like Jakku or outer rim like Tatooine would have American accents (Unkar Plutt probably isn't from Jakku). This is also true for planets in the unknown regions based on the accents of Finn and some of the First Order storm troopers.

Accents aren't hereditary or set by 5yrs old. Accents are developed environmentally. Also, I haven't seen or heard anything about Daisy being coached to use a inner world accent and, in fact, have heard the opposite. Either way, Daisy speaks the same way in the movie as she does in her interviews so she seems to be using her natural accent rather than a coached one. It's also telling that they cast an American actress to play little Rey as opposed to a British girl whose accent would have been obvious.
