what LF announced over the weekend at D23 was pretty significant. I've all but given up on second guessing what it all means and what we will see in december, but they are clearly giving us a big heads up that we're gonna see something a wee bit different.

there are some that have kept their feet firmly in that camp, and feel very strongly about it.
I fought and fought for at least 200 pages to prove that Rey was Luke's daughter. without evidence either way i've backed down a long way from that stance.

i still think it's likely that Rey is Luke's daughter, but i'm just not so sure of the importance of that anymore.

we may be seeing that LF couldn't see a good way of opening up the story for the future.. without changing our perception of the past. we'll see.

I think when they say Skywalker family saga it's a perfectly reasonable way to explain the series. Even if Rey is related to Alexander Hamilton.

Arguably, I suppose. In a way.

But your words may exist in harmony with mine :)

Luke, Leia, Kylo Ren, I think we're good with Skywalkers already.

How is "I think we're good with Skywalkers already" responsive to my remark...?

Ned Stark's blod runs through her veins. I don't care if she's an orphan.
She's my Disney Queen, from this day until her last day.

Damn it. That was another saga...

Ummm... of course they'd stay FAR AWAY from the topic. Even if Rey is a Solo they aren't going to give any hints in a novel. Do NOT USE the books as meaning something can't happen in the movies because characters were a certain way in a book before a movie came out. This applies to all the characters.

You're assuming Episode IX is the end of the saga.

Kiri Hart, head of the Lucasfilm Story Group: “Leia says to Obi-Wan [in Star Wars (1977)], ‘Years ago, you served my father in the clone wars’. I had no idea that was going to turn into a whole thing. You’re watching that and just thinking, ‘That sounds cool.’ It makes the history of the place feel real.” “There can be gaps in the timeline or biography of a character, and we track all these things, obviously. [But] it’s something the group cares about a lot. You don’t want to know everything. And when you do fill something in, it needs to feel worthy, surprising and exciting.” “Not every Star Wars story should be told, and not every gap should be filled. Star Wars is full of ellipses.” (December 12, 2016)

Kylo Ren is 30 years old. Imagine if we find out he has a son/daughter he doesn't know exists. If people are so hungry for the same story, keep feeding it to them until they say stop.

There will be more emotion to Rey being handed down excalibur. It isn’t just passing on what she learned, it will be more complex. Instead of redeeming the father, it will be about re-discovering what it means to be a true Jedi, a good person. The Jedi during the clone wars were a bit stupid but noble, they lived above a Sith shrine for ages and didn’t blink. You would have to rebuild the Jedi in a way that avoids the same mistakes that were made before.

Once Rey has discovered what it means to be a Jedi and about making the right choice, there will be enough emotional resonance where you can leave it open ended in a way that feels like the true conclusion to the Skywalker saga.

Ben Solo was young and in love and Uncle Luke told him he couldn't be a Jedi and be married. Ben was seduced by the dark side, secretly married Rey's Mom, and then went nutso.

At the age of ten (you have to add around a year to the age difference to account for pregnancy?!) I know love doesn't choose but I'm not sure if Ben Solo was even fertile at that age.

Last time he discovered something he didn't know about his family... things went pretty wrong (apparently).
