Others have already pointed out he is on the Story group. He along with many here over the months are fine with Ben being the connection to the Skywalker family.

At the end of the day. This is a measure of opinion. You need someone named Skywalker to feel like its still about the Skywalker Saga. Kylo holding Anakin Skywalker's helmet hoping to have a grandfather moment and being his descendant makes the character closely enough associated to the Skywalker legacy to count as a Skywalker.

The genetics are more important because that's where their strength with Force originates and that's what gives the Star Wars episodes their biblical type of story: it's about the disputes between a related family and the affect that has on the whole galaxy.

    I assume this is typo.

This is nonsense. Genetics are more important? There have plenty of Star Wars heroes who weren't related to Anakin Skywalker. Obi-Wan in some ways is the Skywalker series biggest heroes and he's not genetically related to anyone special.

One possible theme in the contest of whether Rey or Kylo is going to be the "heir" to the Skywalker legacy it seems that early on everyone assumed Ben Anakin's grandson was going to be the one to take over and fulfill everyone's hopes he was going to be the leader of a new generation of Jedi. But the grandson was apparently not who the Force sees as the heir. So they have created a "who is the true Skywalker situation.

Okay, but Pablo and Matt are not going to confirm anything regarding Rey's parentage because it's obviously been hyped up to be an important part of the story. Kathleen has flat out said that her background is absolutely a big part of the story. It doesn't mean she's defined by that and that she can't be more than what her parentage is, but it simply means that where she comes from is something that affects the overall story.

All I got from the tweets and things that were said was that Ben is the child of Leia, who is the daughter of Anakin Skywalker and brother of Luke, and therefore, he is technically a Skywalker. They're not saying that Rey doesn't also fulfill that requirement. They're simply confirming what we already know because that's all they can say at this point. I think anything is up in the air, but like others have said, from a marketing standpoint (and just my own personal gut feeling and everything that I've analyzed over the past two years), I'm pretty certain she's Luke's daughter.

They've pointed out what no one has questioned - kinda like you keep doing.

Again - you don't tell a story called the Skywalker Saga without someone named Skywalker - just like you wouldn't call a movie "Hatfield vs McCoy" and have it be about other familes involved in that feud would you?

Now - what is Ben's last name?

Ok yes his last name is Solo so if LFL released a film in about 2025 with ESP X in the title & continuing the story of Ben Solo, Rey & Finn if Rey turns out not to be a Skywalker you don't think that A) LFL could market & promote this film or B) The GA wouldn't be interested in seeing it because there wasn't a Skywalker in it.

Personally I would & I don't think the GA cares as much about the Skywalker Saga (as a as way of linking the films together) as the what the had core fans do.

JJ said he didn't want it to be about genetics but spirituality.
JJ said the thing that grabbed him was about how ordinary people in the galaxy viewed Luke Skywalker.
Daisy Ridley said that TFA was about her and Finn finding a family/becoming a family.

Make Rey the daughter of Luke and you throw all that away just to rehash a story that has been told one trilogy back without the suspense.

As long as the events of the movies tie directly the the legacy of Darth Vader, then it will be "The Skywalker Saga".
Kill Ben Solo and leave Luke & Leia to join the Force in their old age and that story ends (as it should).
Keep Ben alive and allow him to procreate and Vader's legacy will continue. It will remain the Skywalker saga because Vader was the original Skywalker.

I think they started this trilogy with the view to ending the Skywalker story so they can get onto something new and wholly original. They can achieve that through Rey Random.

    Ben Solo.

If you're making a story called the SKYWALKER Saga, woudl you center it around someone (Ben - potential his future children) named Solo? Or would you create a character with the last same last name as the title of the story?

I don't think they'd call that movie Episode X. I think all the media, talk and marketing would be "The Skywalker Saga ended with IX, we are now doing something different".
    --- Double Post Merged, Sep 6, 2017 ---
Skywalker, but tha thas nothing to do with the topic at hand.
    --- Double Post Merged, Sep 6, 2017 ---
No you don't. You just expand/do deeper into the family story.

No. You don't make a product called the Skywalker Saga and not have someone with that name. Its a hard concept to grasp, I know.

If Rey is random, why do to such lengths to connect her to Luke?

There isn't a product called "The Skywalker Saga". There is a product called Star Wars. The three trilogies are generally referred to as:

    The Prequels
    The Originals
    The Sequels

Within thee trilogies are nine films, each of which has its own name. None of the titles refer directly to "Skywalker".

The story within these trilogies as a whole however are directly connected to the life, death and legacy of Darth Vader - originally Anakin Skywalker. That is the story - it all links back to him, the Skywalker. And as long as his family survives, whether they take his name or not, the saga will continue to be informally referred to as "The Skywalker Saga".

If Ben lives and they decide to continue this storyline into Episode X then they can again refer to it as the Skywalker Saga as Vader will continue to be the origin point of the tale. Everything that is happening now can be followed back to the legacy of Vader. It is still largely his story.

For the same reasons Kenobi and other characters were connected to Luke - they are all part of the Skywalker story. We are yet to discover why Rey has been pulled into it but nothing suggests that she HAS to be a Skywalker to be connected in the first place.

I was saving time acknowledging that others had directly pointed out that you were absolutely incorrect when you claimed that PH was not a part of the story group. So actually you questioned it. Only you.

Repeating the same tired analogy doesn't make your opinion on whether or not a character needs to have the correct name to continue a saga about a single family fact it is an opinion. Its not even a bad opinion. Its just not a fact. Nor is it required that we need someone with the Skywalker name. Particularly when it seems that one of the questions they want people asking is if the Jedi are ending, and the grandson of Vader has turned who is going to be the Skywalker going forward.

According to the head producer its called the Skywalker Saga. So you're wrong.

And the story in those 3 trilogies is about the Skywalker Family. Thats why she called it the Skywalker Saga.

If Ben is the lead after Episode IX, it won't be the Skywalker Saga, as the lead character won't be a Skywalker (that might be harsh - if there isn't a central Skywalker character....).

If you're going to continue the Skywalker Saga you need a Skywalker, not a Solo, to be there. Rey ist he best/only candiate for that. And you didn't answer my questino - if Rey isn't related to Luke, why did they go out of their way to draw so many connects/parallales between the two?

The head producer informally referred to the saga films in this way. Show me a Star Wars product - anything - that has the words The Skywalker Saga printed on it.

    Shmi - Anakin - Luke/Leia - Kylo.

He's as much a Skywalker as Rey would be unless Rey is the product of incest. But the point is that the central character doesn't have to be a Skywalker. The story itself just needs to be weighted towards the overall story of that family and guess what:

First Order is inspired by the Empire Vader helped create and allowed to be created.
Kylo Ren is the grandson of Vader and is inspired by him.
Luke, the last Jedi, is the son of Vader and must now train the new hero.
Leia, the daughter of Vader, is in charge of the Resistance vs the First Order.
Everything connects back to that family.

Many people are asking the same thing about the Rey/Kenobi connection.
Personally, I think they created a standard Star Wars hero who would naturally share many similarities with the previous heroes. They also might want to make us think one thing so they can go in another, unexpected direction. Or maybe Rey isn't actually that much like Luke when you get down to the nitty gritty but is just like every other mythological hero in having mysterious origins & special powers...

Hidalgo, as far as what has been said, is there to fact check and manage contunity - not write stories, direct creative etc... As for what I said, since you didn't understand it - NO ONE is suggesting Ben isn't part of the Skywalker family tree. However he is not a Skywalker. Pointing out who is grandfather is is meaningless to the conversation.

It does when no one wants to address it, which tells me it proves the point you're stubornly don't want to admit - and its prove the point, you simply don't tell a story called the SKYWALKER saga without a character who has that name. And you keep ignoring my analogy because it would force you admit as much.

And yes - given the info we have, it is a "fact" (or at least as close to one we have) at this moment.

LMAO - "informally" - LMAO. So its the Skywalker Saga. Great, moving on.

    What Kylo's last name?

You're also making the mistake in thinking these things came up to the writers in the order we're getting them. They didn't call the series the Skywalker Saga, and write TFA and outline the ST and then think "oh crap, we don't have a Skywalker". They knew where they were going before they even said the words "Skywalker Saga". So what does that tell you about the likely outcome of the story they are telling, the story they have called "THE SKYWALKR SAGA"?

don't dodge the questin -= why go to suck lengths to connect Rey to Luke? Make her look like him, dress like him, have a speeder that looks like his, her story is similar to his etc....?
    --- Double Post Merged, Sep 6, 2017, Original Post Date: Sep 6, 2017 ---
I'm not the one who called the entire thing the Skywalker Saga.

Rogue One is not part of the Saga, and while it did well, it didn't do as well as many of the entries in the Skywalker Saga - it would appear Skywalkers = money.

Look like him? I just watched the OT and there's hardly anything similar clothing and face-wise. She looks like Obi-Wan and even does something in TFA that's exactly what Obi-Wan does in ANH in the Falcon, plus they have the same accent, use the same mind trick on the Stormtroopers... I could go on.

Is there a product out there that the movie going crowd and the merchandise buying masses knows as “the Skywalker Saga“? In which image & marketing campaign was such a product introduced and promoted with that label since the 70’s when Star Wars had become a brand?

Could you please show me a single source like a movie poster, book, whatever where one of the 7 so far released main line Star Wars films got that product etiquette ‘A Skywalker Saga’ to justify your permanent postulated theory that the franchise will be doomed and characters without the ‘Skywalker’ last name doesn’t have the right to carry on Anakin’s legacy?

Note: One statement in one interview 2017 with the current head of Lucasfilm, that would be taken into account most properly only by interested enthusiasts, will not count as a valid marketing measurement to establish “The Skywalker Saga” as a claim to the Star Wars brand and that consumers will associate with the franchise, brand and logo.

    Edit: typo

No, however its how the producer and story team see it. I also think most people do link that name more then any other Star Wars, even if they don't know the term "Skywalker Saga", they know they want to see Luke, or Anakin or Lukes daughter (most assume Rey is) etc.... You take that away.....

And I actually provided two links - there could be more. So its not just "one".
