I've not one problem with or about Jar Jar. I know I'm in the minority of my generation (OG) but that''s me.
Just don't get the levels of dislike and out right Hatred some folk have gone to with it over the years. Bandwagon haters/trollers, I suppose.

Anyone hear or familiar with Bryan Young from Full of Sith what his take on Jar Jar is ?

Really? I thought it was Padme, who had set in motion the opportunity for Palpatine to become chancellor.

Jar-Jar completely fails the "cool " factor. That's what it's all about . . . the "cool" factor.

he suggessted that palpatine get his emergency powers which led to all of it...all padme did was run away and appoint jar jar as her representative because she was at risk of being killed, and if she was killed, anakin would have also become vader in AOTC and jar jar would have made things even worse, its a lose-lose situation

I guess you had forgotten that Padme had declared a vote of "no confidence" against Chancellor Valorum in "TPM", givine Palpatine an opening to become Chancellor by the end of that movie. And as I recall, the SENATE had voted to give Palpatine emergency powers. Just because Jar Jar had made the suggestion, does not mean that the majority of the Senate had to vote for it. But if you want to dump most of the blame on Jar Jar because of some personal issues, be my guest.

    I don't.

I found the contrast between the serious tone of the movies and the ridiculous, unnuances slapstick that is Jar Jar Binnks is - no pun intended, jarring.

The humorousness of, say, Threepio in the OT gelled far better with the tone of the movies, imo.

I guess the support for granted emergency powers did it.

This makes no sense to me. All of the STAR WARS movies have jumped back and forth between seriousness and humor. Especially when they had characters like Threepio, BB-8, Artoo, the Ewoks, Jar-Jar and Han Solo.

And the Galactic Senate doing nothing, while Palpatine declared himself Emperor. Oh wait . . . they did applaud.

Jar Jar was a hook to catch the kids (it sounds a bit pedophiliac in this way), but the problem with this character is that it wasn't organic to the writing. SW has always been a wide audience movie; R2 was "for kids" as well, and so the Ewoks or, on the other side, BB-8. But they were intriguing characters, funny but coherent with the lore, and organic to the writing. Yes, the Ewoks were not so much funny, but they had a connection with Endor, and, at least, they were introduced according to an ecologic vision: the nature wins the technology. They could have been better, but they were coherent, at least.

With Jar Jar there's nothing like this. The movie never goes deeper on the tribal argument, or on any other argument at all. What were the Gungans supposed to be? a reference to the native americans? an Ewok-like primitive form of life that lives in contact with the nature? but they were hyper-technological! And Jar Jar? Was he a bandit? what was the purpose of having him on the screen? See a redemption arc of a character that was banned from his people? What kind of connection Lucas thought he would have had with the audience? Of course a 3 years old child would have died of laughs. But an adult? What kind of thematics was Jar Jar supposed to bring to the movie? He's just an idiot jumping and screaming. There's no writing, no purpose, no vision. And this is basically why he's so hated.

I've always thought Jar Jar was kind of the scapegoat for prequel hatred in general. Is he a good character? I don't think so. But I don't think he's as horribly distracting from the movie overall as people seem to think, either.

I think he gets the burden of a lot of the prequels shortcomings. I guess that makes Jar Jar a bit of a messiah figure. What a world.

That's how it always is. When something isn't AS good the worst part gets latched on to and made into a bigger deal than it is because it's an easy target.
Is Jar Jar awful? Yes he is.
Is Jar Jar why the PT are not as good as they should have been? No he is not.
He's a symptom of the problem.

Star Wars has always been for kids without explicitly being FOR kids. Especially the episodic movies. Easy enough for kids but not childish.
Like many movies from the late 70s and 80s that were for kids but not childish...Goonies, Gremlins and Indiana Jones.
Jar Jar was that step towards childish in Star Wars I don't think anyone wanted. Ewoks flirted that line very tightly and the Ewok reactions are very mixed.
Jar Jar jumped over that line and danced on it's grave. Based on how people felt about Ewoks, it makes me very curious as to why GL one upped them in every way with Jar Jar.

I don't have a problem with Jar Jar as a being. He's got a goofy personality and says some funny things on occasion. He'd probably make a good drinking buddy. I think the only problem with Jar Jar was that he was given far too much responsibility and screen time for a being so obviously low functioning. It wasn't remotely believable, but then again, the movie was made for children. And then in AOTC he's a representative for Naboo in the Senate. How embarrassing it must have been to hear Jar Jar represent the entire population of your world. He's even worse in the Clone Wars tv show. As long as he's being himself outside of galaxy altering events he's a fine, comedic character, but his participation in battles, senate hearings, and planetary mediation are absurd.

I guess I need to rewatch the movie and try to imagine how it would have all played out if Jar Jar was not present in the movies or only had a background role, but then again if he was booted from his home we wouldn't really see him or I should say he wouldn't have had a part.

I almost feel like we have all these characters that are "alphas" and good/great at what they do; Leia, Luke, Han, etc. That when we get a character that doesn't excel he is made the enemy.

Maybe because there was never a fart or poop in SW until Jar Jar came along. :D

But we all know they have to poop and pee at some point.....I mean come on!
He was just the first to act on it.

I remember when people were complaining about Harry Potter and how no one ever went to the bathroom in the books or movies.
