I'm not going to do my film analysis here but I will say that while this was far from a perfect film I think I enjoyed the movie.

I can understand people feeling hurt and angry, especially if they were not able to set their expectations properly. I tried my best to not expect greatness and I think we got a fun movie with a lot that can be debated and explained in future movies. I'm sure most of our opinions will change a bit as we have time to process the movie.

I agree that the ending was probably the weakest part. The movie just sort of ran out of steam. They could have cut the scene so that Poe blew up the quadrant (forget what it was called) and then we immediately see the planet collapsing. If I remember correctly those scenes were split up and there was just no triumphant climax.

I think this thread has demonstrated, if anything, that we might need TWO labels for reviews as they come in...
    [EXPECTED A LOT]...
    [RELAXED AND OPEN]...

Every thing about that scene is perfect the pacing the music its my favorite ending of any star wars film. I wish TFA had a scene that was half as good as this.

So true. It was the weakest use of music and sound of ALL the films. Even the environmental sounds or space ship sounds were rough or hastily integrated into the scene. It's an astonishingly weak film technically (even the lighting is bad in some scenes).

It is better than the prequels and overall I liked it, but there's a LOT wrong with this film and almost all of it sits squarely on the shoulders of the director, in particular the really poor use of the soundtrack coupled some very bad sound editing.

JJ can clearly get great performances from his actors, but his technical skill with a film like this is sub-par.

This film has the most sparse, empty, quiet and bemused space battles of all 7 films. The final space battle is really just a skirmish, a rather quiet and uninteresting one.

Yeah that's not cool mate, understand you're angry but no need for any of that surely. Can understand you'e obviously passionate as the films as the rest of us but still....

Saying that there was nearly a fight in our screening over someone sat in another mans seat. Security guards had to be called into the room about three occasions - a couple during the film- so maybe I'm a little peeved still thanks to people last night not being able to keep themselves in check in public places.

Agreed. Just re-watch ANH. Even when the X-Wings are taking off it's really exciting. Great music. Great sound effects. And it is all building up to a great climax. TFA has none of that.

Even in IMAX the sound design is incredibly weak. Star wars battlefront sounds a million times better and that's a video game.

Constable Zuvio and Force-Back. I swear I saw/heard neither of these in the film?

I'm not trying to be smart or harsh, but you need to grow up. It's just a movie. Your reaction is way over the top. Everyone loves Star Wars here, but in the end, it's just a movie. There's no good reason for a mature human being to be having a tantrum in a cinema over a movie.

You got over hyped and didn't keep your expectations in check.

it just wasn't reallly specifically mentioned as a 'force back' - I am sure I read Kathleen Kennedy saying Kylo Ren does one or something idk

No, KK said quite clearly it was not a term used "in universe", just a term used by the crew... (which clearly points to those force induced flashbacks or flash forwards Rey had)

10 mins in and i had a moment where I realised how caught up in the film i was, I was loving it, I guess just letting the film wash over me was why I didn't mind the Snoke CGI , I thought Serkis put in a great performance, totally bought him as a character.

Oh I see I missed that then. It would've been weird if they were called that anyway so glad it wasn't use 'in universe'

there were loads of cool wee details with the sound, like the falling snow sizzling as it touched the lightsabers

It was a superb first instalment of the new trilogy - setting up EpisodeVIII nicely. It took two viewings for me to get on board. I was over hyped and expectations were at silly levels. Sure, it has its faults, ALL the films do - Yes, even the overrated ESB. But we've got great new characters, life without Solo (Who's death scene was one of the best scenes in the entire saga) and the reveal of Darth Plagueis to come in Episode VIII (The mention of Snoke favouring a clone army by Kylo, who also describes him as "wise" (Darth Plagueis The Wise) his theme is pretty much IDENTICAL the opera scene music in ROTS, and he looks like he has been raised form the dead/regenerating). Anyway.....

Luke's absence made complete sense. He disappeared (Read the first line of the crawl!) and they found him at the end - what's the problem? Oh, he didn't have an epic lightsaber battle - get over it. Poe Dameron will fill Han Solo's boots. Snoke, in the flesh, will look fine.

It is not perfect by any means, but it's a 9/10 movie - on par with ANH, better than ESB and ROTJ, IMO. I also love ROTS, so prequel haters feel free to bash me.

    I am very Satisfied.

    Roll on Episode VIII!
