If you leave the theater angry after seeing this movie, you've got bigger issues than Star Wars.

A better threat than "Starkiller Base" would be if Snoke had an Academy of Dark Side initiates being readied to take on the Galaxy.

Movies are like women; you either find them attractive immediately, or you don't.

Now there were some films that I hated as a kid, but really enjoy now that I'm older.

But a twenty year expanse is quite different than just a couple of days.

Frankly, don't we all have some issues spending our time on message boards and arguing opinions (I include myself)? The original poster spoke his mind and is entitled to do so like everybody else. From what I read in a couple of posts it could start to look like that everybody who isn't receiving the film like the second coming of Christ is an idiot, nitpicker or fault finder. I'm happy for those that enjoyed the film, but this shouldn't be an invitation to strike against those that felt they couldn't join the chorus.

I have to ask, why are people defending TFA with the only argument that it is just the start of a new trilogy? A New Hope and Fellowship of the Ring were both the first movies of a trilogy and both of them left you with cliffhangers and unanswered questions yet both were extremly awesome movies! Just trying to cover the bunch of flaws that TFA had by simply saying that there are two movies comming after it is just sad.

...I thought that post was in reference to the fact that the OP got angry and smashed things on his way out of the theater, scaring people around him, all because he didn't like the film. Agree with his opinion or not, that's not cool.

I just got back from a second time. And this movie is better than Jedi for me. (And I can't stand TPM,AOTC) Its fantastic. Sorry that snoke ruins everything for you. This movie is fantastic.

BTW, saying this movie is bad because "no luke" is the worst excuse ever. They tell you exactly what is going on with Luke in the crawl.

    "LUKE SKYWALKER IS MISSING"

There. The whole point of the movie is to find luke skywalker. So if you expected him to show up with a bright light behind him and doves flying around then your expectations where way off.

That's not how movies work, nor is it how attraction works. Attraction takes getting to know someone, and is more than just an inital interest. The physical attraction is interconnected with the emotional attraction. My experience with relationships, romantic and platonic, have taught me that. Psychology and neurology also show that. I'm sure others with knowledge of those subjects would agree.

(Psychologically speaking, attraction is made up of several different aspects, chief of which is "proximity", which takes time. The other aspects include sexual attracion, emotional attraction, and shared interests. All of these can come with time. "Immediate" is infatuation, and is not genuine attraction to an actual person, but more to an idea, or to something new)

As Yoda 2 said, correctly, there are a lot of things that a person misses on first viewing. Many films take more than one watch to take in and appreciate. That includes Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and THX 1138, among many others. Some movies move very quickly, or too slowly, on the first view, so, having no familiarity with what is going on at first, you make a snap judgment. A first impression, to go back to the attraction analogy.

First impressions aren't everything, unless you decide they are, and don't go back to actually familiarize yourself with the subject.

To elaborate, being aware of the plot beforehand prepared me for the fast pace. If you aren't prepared for it the first time, your reaction will be unhappy, as you will struggle to follow or appreciate it, as you'll be desperately trying to grab hold of something while the quick pace flows along.

I am more angry about the toned down political situation in TFA. The whole Republic feat. Resistance vs. The First Order was very unclear.
I imagine a scene where this could have been mentioned and explained just easy:

Korr Sella communicates via holo with Leia telling her that the support and restocking of the Resistance is being shut down or shortened by the Senat on Hosnian Prime. Korr Sella was General Leia´s Representative! The Spokesperson for Leia in the Senat! FOR GODS SAKE. It was an important point.

What Starkiller Base did to the System was so non-emotional to the viewer it HURTS. In ANH we have seen Leia watching her Homeplanet blown up and it was a real Horror...because we felt with her. In case of TFA there was nothing like it.

    I thought it was fabulous.

I wouldn't even bother listening to those that are complaining so much about it. They're asking too much. Sure there were some bits that were a bit convenient to push the story along but that's always been the way in Star Wars.

JJ did a great job. I wouldn't want to be in Rian Johnson's shoes following that up!

My comments must sound negative. I DO NOT hate TFA. If anything it's at least better than the prequels for me. I think my expectations were too high.

I feel like the only one that isn't 100% confused by that. I mean, the opening crawl sorta explains it, the Resistance was formed from big names in the New Republic (which was still very small, only 5 planets as we find out) after the First Order became a big enough threat. Now, why the Republic isn't forming an army is beyond me. Maybe they split away from the Republic after the bureaucrats were like "naaaaaaaaah we don't wanna fight this First Order thing."

Also, I'm in no way calling anyone an idiot, and I apologize profusely if it seems that way! And what I'm saying is just speculation, but that's part of the fun of Star Wars and the reason the Expanded Universe existed!

I get a hell of negative ratings for pointing out a good reason for my critizism and even explain what could been made better...its actually sad.

And NO. A movie should be actually doing the job itself than a book or comic. One scene could have changed the thing.

The destruction of the Hosnian System has no emotional impact.

I personally have come around on this one. When I first heard the leak back in February my initial response was:
    https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet....ulation-thread-part-1.1833/page-20#post-50844
Which afterwards, when I realised it actually made sense, became this:
    https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet....ulation-thread-part-1.1833/page-37#post-51591
    https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet....ulation-thread-part-1.1833/page-39#post-51729

Since then, I've mellowed out about the whole thing, and I loved how JJ addressed it in the opening crawl. The last scene was emotional overload for me; it was tears. This was the best way to go about doing it.

I don't recall using that argument.
    Here's my arguement:

I have a feeling there was a significant arc involving Leia early in the movie that they decided to abandon for flow reasons. Hopefully we will get an extended cut this spring.

I have to disagree with the OP, this was a great introduction to the SW universe 30 years on, the new characters were all great and have chemistry, BB-8 was incredible technically and as a character, and there was a lot of action that unlike some of the prequels you could follow. The lightsaber fights were effective in that like the OT the participants were either injured (old in Kenobi & Vader's case) or untrained. The fighting style was reminiscent of the OT which is interesting to compare to the PT, TCW and Rebels where the style is more acroabatic and at times balletic (which is going to happen if people have years of training).

The only thing I can say is that I want more. I'm hoping that there will be an extended cut available including some of the material seen in traillers and revealed in spoiler posts e.g. Maz meeting Leia, Poe getting off Jakku and so on.

As an experience though, this is the best I've felt since seeing the OT at the cinema on release, especially Empire which I can remember seeing for the first time in 1980 really well.

It's literally just a movie, no need to get so worked about it, but maybe you should go into a star wars exile for a bit.. maybe you're a bit too attached to it? It's ok.
