Re: your point about Plagueis and Snoke, did anyone notice that the First Order guy standing with Kylo Ren before Snoke sounds exactly like Palpatine and physically could pass for a much younger version??!

I loved the film. To me it was reminiscent of the experience of watching Star Trek: TNG after being a TOS fan. Sure, there were things one missed from both - the constant, cheesy humor, sets and acting, the fairytale sense of it unfolding before you rather than the constant feeling of being in the midst of it all ... then you realize that the very things you miss and their absence are what you love about the new franchise! Here is real talk. Here is believability. Here you are not just a spectator, but a participant -you half expect to see your name roll by in the end credits. The first TNGs also rehashed plots from TOS before coming into their own in season 2 or so and going into hyperdrive, as it were, after Roddenberry died; why is building an even bigger and better Death Star any different from beginning TNG with yet another trial of humanity? I thought all the acting was brilliant. The writing did its job in fine fashion. The special effects were beyond incredible. It was a superb introduction to what is effectively a new franchise, with the old characters having exactly the same impact as TOS characters who dropped in on TNG. Bravo.

I just came back from the cinema and must be honest I feel dpressed , The

darkside finally won. After the falling of the last jedi (Lucas) when he sold

his soul(SW rigths) to the darkempire (Disney), all galaxy citzens are suffering

from this greedy marketing wars that are destroying the true mythologic and

archetipic essence of the saga... Camon guys, that is some plot failures thats

unnaceptable for serious followers, here some of them in my point of view.

    1. To get to be a Jedi/sith is a serious hard thing, is not matter of just wake

the Force like something that just happens and solve all problems... no no

no...The Force is not good or evil, who use its decide. If the force is strong on

you its came from birth (midiclorians levels),you start to developed it when you

are child and get to master it if you have the luck to find a good teacher. So,

how can I accept the fact that Rylo, that supposed to be a jedi trained by Luke

and after empowerd by darkside, be hurted by single chewbacca shot and be hurted

again by ex-stormtrooper(finn) figthing with a ligthsaber(wtf!!!) and finally be

defeated by a untrained girl that suddenly learn by herself how to figth like a

    jedi.

2.So If I understand well after the Endor victory and the destruction of 2nd

deathstar the rebels failed to restore the Republic as the ruling Political

order of the galaxy and not only that, Luke fails to restore the Jedi order ,

Leia and Solo fail in their relationship and failed as well in the rising of

their offspring. So Disney is telling me that after six movies the evil still won

the strife. And this is a shame, yes a shame to see our real hero Luke defeated,

lost and alone in middle of nowhere meanwhile the evil force are killing billions

    by destroying planets and stars.

3.I dont like the Rylo Ren Character. A cryboy, that seems imature and impulsive

and weak. Is that the lord Vader heir?...poor Anakin... poor Luke.

4.Deathstar 3.O?? really they have to repeat this again?, the same damn plot

maked up a little working like a easy formula...ppffff...

5.the sucess of SW saga relay in the ability to translate the archetipic hero

tales of all cultures world wide to scifi cinematographic format. the action

scenes and special effects(thats today are trivial) are secondary. For us (my

generation) SW was THE MYTH, that teach us how dream to be this hero and overcome

all difficuties trusting in justice, braveness and in the of the Force thats is

within all of us.Does Rey fit the paper of this heroin_? I hope so but Im not so

sure, but of one thing I know: Lucas get rich because the movies, but to him the

most important thing was the message.Disney just want your money.

And one last remark, what the hell is Voldermort doing in star wars? and how he

became a sith lord ? ...lol

I'm sure the people that enjoyed the bridge scene would disagree, but hey, it's all opinion at this point. Opening weekend isn't even over yet, I guess we'll see what stands the test of time and what doesn't. =P

Yeah, I've known this scene was coming since 2014... It kept it's punch.
Kind of like a certain other scene I know.. (dad)

In fact, I could have put the pic of his death from google on here, but.. I got too emotional at the prospect of doing it. Chose to go with this meme pic instead.:(

Agreed. The film should have explained it and not have left it to the viewers to piece together. But in my crummy opinion, that's kind of the fun of it. It's why I'm such a big fan. When you let the fans piece together why everything is the way it is, you get something like the Expanded Universe (which you could argue had stupider crap than the prequels in many respects, but was still so big and gave the franchise so much life), which I hope we get to enjoy more of as we go forward.

The scene was played in such a way that I seriously didn't think they were gonna go for it, and I'm one of the suckers that got spoiled by some scumbag in a comment box. I guess it's just a matter of opinion, like I said. =P

Music was fine, pace was fine. Sound fx were a bit of a let down, it just seemed like the volume was turned down for those blaster shots and ship engine sounds. Did Burt do the sound design?

It's the only star wars film that doesn't have a rememberable moment it's mainky due to the pacing of the film Finn vs kylo ren should have been epic Rey vs kylo ren should have been epic Hans death should have been heartbreaking but everything in this movie happens at such a fast pace, it doesn't give you time to get invested in the characters and story .

Seek therapy. No joke, if being let down over a crap movie pushes you over the edge, you need help. My therapy for the same problem was coping with the PT and learning to laugh at GL's incompetence.

Snoke may not be the best CGI (I tend to agree with you), but it wasn't horrible either. I saw it as average. In fact, it's one of the arguments for practical effects because at some level all CGI looks fake. So it doesn't bother me as much. Finn is not a joke even though he provided much of the humor. He bravely rescued Poe, volunteered for the assault on Starkiller Base, killed a few stormtroopers at Maze Katana's castle, and ultimately fought Kylo. He's just a lower level character who will likely grow into a competent warrior. But his heroic aspect was choosing to betray the First Order because of their evil ways. You know, not every single character can be a complete badarse. And Phasma, yeah terribly, underused. So much so in fact that she really shouldn't be on the poster. But so what? She probably had more lines in the script that got cut in editing.

Yes this seems implausible, I had the exact same thoughts walking out of the theater. But upon further reflection there might be some mitigating circumstances:

    1) The title of the film is "The Force Awakens". Could it be that in all of Jedi history, force users had to be trained, but now that the force has "awakened", certain individuals are strong enough to use it untrained? Maybe that's the point of it.

    2) Most suspect that Rey is Luke's daughter. I know I do. But we don't know the mother. Is it possible that Rey's mother was a force user too? If so, she could be even more powerful than Luke.

    3) As you alluded to, she probably received some training as a child. She also was intrigued by Hans explanation that the Force and the Jedi were not myths, but true. She also had Maze Katana provide further confirmation regarding the reality of the force. And finally, she had a vision regarding her abandonment and Kylo's slaughter of the padawans all from touching the light saber. It might be possible that the vision itself triggered an outpouring of force power from within her. Furthermore, her encounters with Kylo may simply have taught her through observation what is possible with the Force.

Death Star V3, bad. No Luke, bad. The pace, it was fine. At least it wasn't PT boring. Bear is mind that today's youth are easily distracted. And failure to keep their attention for more than ten minutes without action is darn near impossible.

There's no mess to clean up. We have good characters, an OT feel, and the stage is set for Rey and Luke to become the focus of the story. Don't forget that Snoke is going to "complete" Kylo's training as well. It's all good.

Yoda vs Dooku the audience lost there blast when yoda pulled out his lightsaber. That should have happed during the lightsaber battle between Finn and kylo or Rey and kylo.

Man, seeing that concept art now after seeing the movie. It's crazy how close that is to what happens. Only change the location a bit and add Finn being knocked out, and that is virtually the same scene.

It is my favorite scene though, so maybe i am attached to it because of that.

Well, the voice of reason...well put.

I'm noticing a negative ratings trend in this thread and who is handing them out...stop please. Whether you loved or absolutely hated this film, so be it...stop downvoting those that felt the opposite way.

Frankly, it is my perspective that if you so viciously hated this movie, then why are you here...it seems to make no sense to me that you'd be wanting to talk about it. Maybe it's just me.

At any rate, I've been through this thread and deleted a lot of unwarranted and hateful ratings that have been given in retaliation to those that have opposing views and have taken note of the members that are providing them.

I know but it wasn't a rememberable moment and It should have been. It should have had a huge reaction I was excited when Harrison Ford said this scene had a great visual story telling. That statement was bantha poodoo that was the worst lightsaber fight in all of star wars.

The audience I saw it with gasped and applauded when Rey caught the saber. So, apparently some thought it was memorable.
