Finn mentions that he was taken as a child from a family he'll never know - I wonder if Phasma will be instrumental in revealing something about Finn's past (and no - I'm not in the Lando Jr camp - hopefully it'll be more interesting and less parochial than that. Jason Bourne stylee?)

Phasma got out of the compactor the same way Hux got to Ren in time: miraculously and off-camera so we don't have to deal with niggling details.

It's crazy that Phasma actually had Finn's back when questioned by Hux but Finn wasn't so nice to her.

She seems at one point the only one to believe in him and suggested it was only his first offense.

So I wonder what if anything will happen in VIII;meaning will she be going after him and not being such a good girl this time.

I mean it's only a two hour movie so alot of things need to happen especially with Phasma's character. She needs redeeming , or rather more screentime. Doesn't have to be alot just a nice subplot.

i dunno if Phasma is really defending Finn so much as the stormtrooper program over all.
this is a perfect case where you could argue that Phasma is loyal to Hux:
he's distressed that something's gone haywire and she's trying to emphasize that Finn is an anomaly.

Hux is spazzing out that there could be any inkling of truth to what Ren said to him (even though Ren clearly only said it to provoke exactly this reaction).
Hux is insecure about his command. Phasma is stabilizing the situation. she's also defending herself because if Finn isn't an anomaly, it's her fault too.

I don't think she was defending the stormtrooper program, actually she doesn't like this program created by Hux. Therefore, I'm even more confused about Phasma's reaction. That would have been the perfect moment to criticise Hux's methods.

where does she say she doesn't like the program? in the Journey book? i need to reread that.
so i go back to: maybe she's defending Hux? or just trying to keep him from having a meltdown. or blaming her.

It's stated in the Visual Dictionary, Phasma and Hux disagree about the stormtroopers' training. Phasma doesn't believe that the program tests the attributes which soldiers need: courage and toughness.

ohhh, thanks! i really need to get that book.
i still think it behooves her to defend herself.
the only other option i can think of is that she means it as a dig: see, Huxy-face, did everything i was supposed to and we still have a screw loose.

but i still don't think she's defending Finn particularly. hahaha

In a way I think she kinda was. I mean she could've turned him in herself for being a turncoat so to speak but she tells him to turn his weapon in for inspection.

    She assumed he would comply.

Imagine if instead of Phasma greeting him but Kylo when he took his helmet off. I think that is truly why he escaped. Well, not the only reason but he knew Benny Renny saw his fear. If he had turned in his weapon he'd have to face Hux or worse Kylo and end up like old man Lor.

More like she is directly responsible -- if she doesn't lower the shields, Starkiller Base would still be standing.

I could see her being excommunicated by the First Order, or disgraced and on the run, and going after Finn as a personal vendetta. Her role would be more like a bounty hunter except she's not under contract with anybody but herself.

I've always liked the thought of Phasma becoming a double-agent, helping the Resistance... Or seeming to help the Resistance.

I posted the following in a Phasma thread I started over on the VII board discussing Phasma's fate, here: https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet.com/index.php?threads/captain-phasmas-fate.8007/#post-243258

I remember reading something about how Phasma actually liked Finn and wanted him in her troop directly under her command or something like that even after she had already sent him for reconditioning

Totally agree. Think about this: Boba Fett, generally regarded as the baddest-ass in all the galaxy (not named Vader) had as much or less screen time in an entire trilogy than Phasma did in one movie. Yet they still got the point across that this guy was not to be messed with.

It won't take much to make Phasma look more formiddable, and I really hope they take the care to do this right. They definitely can't make her look much worse.

^ This. How great of a scene would it have been if while on His way back to the Falcon Chewie ran into Phasma as She is crawling out of a portal. Then they have a quick hand to hand fight that ends with Chewie ripping one or both of her arms off...Then in Episode 8 she would have a vendetta against Chewie.

He, so does anyone else find it interesting that the Death Troopers in Rogue One are all 6'3" tall, and that Gwendoline Christie is also 6'3" tall?
What if these "elite of the elite" stormtroopers are clones of some other Republic-era badass, and Phasma is the last one alive from Rogue One? Or maybe even the original?
We know the Republic Army clones were engineered to age twice as fast as biologically born humans, but that doesn't mean ALL clones do. Phasma might not even be human, for all we know.
    Who knows. Imagination fuel!

Is it possible to clone an opposite-gender version of one person (in the SW universe)? Are the Death Troopers all male/female warriors?
