if Kylo dies like Vader in the process, then so be it, even if it is a complete rehash of ROTJ. I definately don't see people easily forgive him. I see no reason why they should do so.

I must admit I was more forgiving as a kid and when I first saw ROTJ, but with my life experience I'm much less forgiving to such criminals these days. So I prefer him to die or facing a life-long imprisonment.

 

this is all personal preference, but there's a vast difference between being accountable for crimes and making someone suffer for them.

it's all about choice at the end of the day, and whether we like it or not there is a very good chance that Ben Solo will, at some point emerge from the darkness.
If that happens (and he is still alive) then we are going to have to make a choice about how we feel about that, and so will the characters around him.

I choose to believe that Ben Solo has never had the chance to decide what kind of man he would like to be. I also choose to believe that Ben is in there somewhere and is in constant agonizing pain because of what Snoke has turned him into.

this is star wars @nightangel and it's about the battle between light and dark.. both physically and within the main protagonists. it's not about crime and punishment.. it's about fall, hope and redemption.

It didn't matter if Anakin lived or died when he was redeemed.. the journey was about saving him.

you could almost theorize that was Padme's gift to Luke as she died... her love and belief that there was was still some good in Anakin, and that he was worth saving.

Kylo kills a Knight of Ren in Rey's vision, is it scene from the past or a future scene of Episode 8/9 ? The vision of Rey also include the future (Kylo in the forest of the Starkiller base) and there's a rumored fight between Rey/Luke and Kylo/The Knights of Ren under the rain in Episode 8...

 

I think that was confirmed as being in the past.
In the original TFA shot list/script, this was the KoR fighting a Clan and it is where Ren gets the Skywalker Saber (only to later have it stolen by Maz).
There was confusion in the credits over who it really is that Ren kills. At first he was called Clan Leader but was then down as a KoR in the credits.

 

It was a delicious piece of pie.

According to Pablo Hidalgo Kylo Ren killed a "clan leader" not a Knight of Ren. Also the KOR are wearing masks, this dude didn't wear a mask.

 

The actor confirm he was playing a Knight of Ren, as the credits of the movie says, and he's the one killed by Kylo...

 

Other Rens: "Why don't we get a glowy red stick too?"

 

Well, that's very interesting indeed.

 

Maybe each Knight of Ren is a clan leader? Like there's a whole group of acolytes, divided into clans, and the leaders of the clans are the Knights of Ren?

Ah, Star Wars fandom, where there are so many mysteries to choose from that you have to pick just one or two to gnaw on or you'll exhaust yourself...

 

Yeah it's clear the concepts were in flux throughout production.

I think the key insight here is that the identity of this figure (clan leader? knight of ren? somebody else?) is unclear within the text of the movie itself, and inconsistent within the surrounding metatext (tweets, concept art, etc) -- and that the "correct" identification can only be applied retroactively if Rey's Force vision is elaborated in TLJ.

In other words, the identity of this figure is not yet set. And it's possible it is never clarified and the figure remains an enigma, a remnant of an idea that was set-up and scrapped.
