Having him being redeemed and survive is what could make it different from Vader's arc.
Again, it is your personal preference to have evil guys pay for their villainy. (And as a bonus enjoy being evil.) As I illustrated we have had exactly what you say you like. (If I wanted to be contrarian I would say that that is unoriginal, but this is not how my logic works.)
I just think that the way I see things set up the option for Kylo/Ben that would be the most satisfying is for him to be redeemed and survive it. In this way you will have something new that we have not actually seen before. We already have him as a completely new kind of character, and I believe that his character arc is certainly not finished...

Good of you to allow for a good story that could turn out to diverge from your personal preferences. That is the wise attitude to have indeed.

Agree. Aside from any potential relation to Kylo (either she is a cousin, sister, reincarnated granpa or just a unrelated potential love interest) she could show him what he already has and what she never had: a family.

Well, TBH I am not going to think it's a good story if it diverges from my personal preferences (Kylo Ren is redeemed). However, if it really is a good story without that (which of course can't happen!!!!!!!!!), then I hope I would come around to see that eventually. But at first I would be a miserable person to live with for a while.

 

That is true. I think a cool way to stray away from the Vader story is have Kylo turn back to the light and not die. Sort of Darth Revan style. Where he has to continue to atone for his past for the rest of his life and no matter the illustrious career he may have as a Jedi, Ben and the galaxy will always remember Kylo Ren.

 

Maybe instead of dying or turning to the light and living. He could take off from galactic civilization. Wasn't there a story about Ventress doing something like that, after she was betrayed by Dooku she left for the unknown regions of the galaxy. It might be interesting to have Kylo's fate be untold until a later time when he could possibly make some grand appearance for either the light side or the dark.

Of course Kylo/Ben has to be redeemed! No negotiations there.

P.S. I'm joking of course. A good story that makes the best sense is what everyone should want.

yes! it would be the grand lottery of disappointment and grief.
being betrayed by the PT was almost insurmountable.
being betrayed by the ST i fear would be the death knell. hahaha

This time around, "we" will save him and hopefully he doesn't have to die.

That's the best optimistic message I want. Otherwise, it will be so heartbreaking and utterly depressing...

Oh I know the Emperor was evil to the core, and he was easily the best character in the prequels but I don't like them. In the OT he sort of came in the last movie and that's when we got to know him and see how evil he was compared to Vader. In my head it'd be cool to see Kylo Ren develop into an evil character like that and not be redeemed throughout the trilogy. But I do agree that it's good to have an open mind about the story. Already similar to Vader and the Emperor's already, but we'll just have to wait and see. And I definitely agree with having an open mind, the people working on the films are more talented and creative than I am haha

*also aware Anakin had a trilogy showing him turning evil but have always thought it was poorly done lol

 

Who thinks that Kylo Ren's backstory may have changed in the past couple of years?

Originally he was going to be a teenager (concept art, script/novelization says that Han has never seen his son as a man) with derelict parents (said Abrams & Driver interviews) that turned to the dark side and became the Jedi Killer, but now he's at least 23 years old instead (Bloodline) when that happens.

That would explain why Pablo Hidalgo has to keep explaining away the discrepancies and confusion/anger on twitter.

 

I just don't buy that the guy is all that evil. At least not now.
