they can't fail. it's not conceivable. the Light will win.

i knew it was going to be bad. but i never expected it to be this bad. Johnson didn't even apologize for laying it squarely on Luke.
why did no one help this dang kid??? ughhhhh.

i didn't know whether to laugh or cry when they're in the shuttle together quibbling about what to do.
Hux maybe has the leadership if he can get himself under control, but he's a total mess now.
and Ren is more of a disaster than ever; completely and utterly!

Maybe we haven't learned the full truth yet.

IMO Ren ignored Hux in the shuttle. Only after he got his senses back, he listened to Hux. May I add that I love this newer and more angry/insane Ren?

This is why I think there should be a bigger time skip between TLJ and IX. Maybe 3-5 years. In this time period Ren can get used to be the Supreme Leader. Maybe he even gets reasonable and gives Hux some power too.

no, there's still things to be revealed, i'm sure. but still. just on face value Luke and Ren's versions of this incident are both heartbreaking!

i will be sad if there's a really big skip, but yeah, it does give us time in between to play outside the box. that said, i am having a hard time dealing with Ren being Supreme Leader. even when Hux called him that, i just wanted to knock their heads together. hahahahaha

Gleeson was brilliant in this, but jeezus this isn't the path i was hoping for either of them.

all that fear and all that rage comes to a head on the Supremacy.
he's finally taking back whatever power he can grasp after a life of feeling powerless.

he finally knew Snoke for what he was. it's no wonder he's rejecting everything right now.

 

Yes. You saw how Ren and Rey dominated Snoke's guards together. Balance is the key.

Heartbreaking but human. I'm sorry, this is what life looks like.

Do you know what's funny? First Ren seemed to get redeemed in this movie and then he performs a volt-face at the last minute (kinda unbelievable though). Hux on the other side was evil at the beginning and lightened up towards the end.

 

Kylo is unpredictable. You just don't know what he will do next. I don't think he acted redeemed at all. He had an agenda it it involved Rey in his plans. Pure selfishness.

 

I think a time skip is needed at this stage. Just a few years. For the resistance to get back their strength and Kylo to be alone and consolidate his power.

With the throne scene, Kylo also wants to share all his shiny new power and toys with his new and only friend/love interest. I'm adamant he really cares about Rey, and still does a little despite her rejection. He was lashing out at her in anger afterwards by shooting at the falcon and yelling at her. He doesn't know how to react otherwise. She's the first person who's been decent to him in a long time, showing that Snoke made a mistake with their force bond, as Kylo really gets angry when Snoke reveals his part in it and tortures her. Though he let it slide for a while because he thought she was changing sides.

 

i don't even know what to think of Hux and how he'll fit into this going forward. Ren needs someone to run the show and Hux will only be too happy to do it, but he'll be plotting against Ren the whole time. what a mess.

i'm okay having my heart broken, knowing it probably would be for now. but ultimately this is still a fantasy story. right now it feels like it has a little too much real life for me. i want my happy ending and i feel like Johnson threw it down into that Dark well.

which is okay. all of this turmoil is okay right now. just doesn't change the fact that it's turmoil ~ hahahahaha

he really is just an angry wounded child with too much power and no direction.
he needs so much help and in that moment he was never going to be ready to take it.

can't wait to see it again--that final moment with the dice: ughhhhhh ~ jeez Johnson, stop twisting that knife in my heart ~ hahahahaha

 

I staunchly disagree. To an extent. Yes, their relationship is dark and unhealthy and Kylo wants to stay in the dark side than light. But there are clues he cared about her, and especially after she showed empathy for him. His offer was genuine and he wanted her to be on his side, and her with him on the light. But they are too different in that aspect unless IX pushes them in either direction. That's why Snoke vision manipulation works so well, it feeds into Kylo's selfish beliefs and then his reveal of it compounds it as FN pointed out.

His resolve went from being fractured to clear before killing Snoke. For a reason.

Kylo has humanity, he agrees with Rey that he's a monster in their second force bond scene, and cries a little because he thinks his mother is dead. A belief that greatly affects his arc and the way he acts throughout TLJ.

He really is a selfish sleemo though, it's HIS way or NO way. Which a lots of time will be needed to change.

Read my reply to Bluemilk. Kylo had a lot of nuance in TLJ that people are missing. Though it is up to interpretation to a certain point.

True. His pain runs deep and revenge is all he thinks about. Luke misunderstands his power and Ben misunderstands Luke on why he even thought about killing him.

 

it's almost bigger than revenge. he literally wants to burn the whole galaxy down.
i'm struggling to see where/how he's going to get any perspective on any of this.
but it's a battle worth fighting as far as i'm concerned.

 

Except Rey! "Wink wink" "nudge nudge"

(Until she turns him down and goes for Anakin's Sabre ).

Yes, he's very human who can't control his ways. The only reason he connected with her because they are alot alike but opposite sides of the coin. He can relate to her but it can't work. She's made her choice and now he made his.

On a side note - Adam Driver's expressions between when he is with Rey and when he is with Luke is just brilliant. I mean the range of emotions is great. From somber and wanting that attention from Rey to bitterness and anger around Luke.

if there's one thing we could take away from TLJ it's that people are not static.
they change their minds all the time.

I’m not quite sure that I agree with him wanting to burn the galaxy down (yet); he means to rule it, and has always meant to rule it due to his lineage (even if we take Vader out of the equation). It’s his belief and mentality that he is the rightful ruler of the galaxy, which of course Snoke probably instilled in him.

On the other hand, I think that there are times where he will get so frustrated - not just with others, but himself - that he will of course take it out in everyone in his path, so him doing devastating things to justify his frustration seems like something that we could see, in my opinion.

We see it at the end of the film: he’s visibly and verbally wrought with frustration that Rey won’t join him, that Luke is right (about the war just starting, about the Rebellion being reborn and about not being the last of the Jedi), and that Rey quite literally closes a door on him.

It will be interesting to see what effects war could have on as malleable and fragile a soul as Kylo’s. I can certainly see his frustrations resulting in being an extremely oppressive ruler.

 

Kylo Ren is quickly rising to near the top of my favourite characters list.
I loved him in The Force Awakens but he takes it to the next level in this one.
That Adam Driver is threatening to steal my heart, I swear, that son of a scoundrel.

Very curious to see where his character goes from here, as he's essentially now become the most powerful being in the galaxy, achieving something that not even Vader did (essentially becoming Emperor), and yet none of it felt like a victory for him.

Kylo just comes off so damn harsh, man. I really have a love/hate with him. One of my favorites in the ST

 

Kylo Ren is my favorite character in anything. There’s nothing I wanted more than for him to come back to the light. I was over the moon when he killed Snoke and fought with Rey. Then the movie disappointed me and made him the supreme leader. It’s not even that though. Leia gave up hope in her son. I hope Luke can bring him back to the light. Please.
