i feel like Luke is not acting out of character. he's projecting his worries into the future and seeing the possibility of catastrophe and, in a moment of weakness, accidentally fulfills his dark prophecy by becoming the catalyst for Ben's turn to the dark side.

it's a perfectly Star Wars/Skywalker moment, if you think about it.

 

I'm just going to live in this until 2019. There has got to be something more to their dynamic.

Threat looming over family or evil deeds discovered done is really the only thing that could account for Luke's actions. It's not that a Jedi cannot be tempted more than once, but the scene where Luke walks away from the killing blow to his father and the Dark side is such a potent moment in the saga, and Luke's final step to knighthood. Without precedent (and not to say there cannot be something in IX or the future Disney EU), it is huge walk back for his maturity and understanding known to the OT audience. I still think Kylo is responsible for doing something else, and that is what will fill in the gaps to Luke seeing 'bad things.' Imagine if Luke found out something Kylo did to his 'family' or daughter. We know Luke was playing in the sands of Jakku.....a little more play than we thought.

The idea of a random Force user is not unique to the ST. It was known and understood to me beforehand, as well as explicitly stated in the same book (although not canon) that RJ pulled his 'Doppelganger' moment.

Will Rey Skywalker be a walk back on the random heritage, possibly, but this saga was always about that family so.......

A few interesting thoughts there:

1) That Darkness "expanding" from Kylo... I wonder if it was Snoke's (or some other dark side entity) original plan to finish Luke's path to the dark side. It's something teased quite a bit in ROTJ, so having those themes return with Luke here actually makes a lot of sense. And it's believable enough that Kylo was the consolation prize after Luke did not fail himself.

2) "And he is a Skywalker". That line seems to be so against the grain of how the Force was portrayed in VIII. It puts emphasis on Kylo's lineage, making it seem like his status as a Skywalker is related to his "immense" Force powers.

Because of Canto Bight, god, CB scenes could be better executed...

 

Canto Bight are only 11 minutes, not too much really

I remember a lot of early reviews were like "The Canto Bight scenes took up like a third of the movie".

I was extremely surprised at how short it was, really. To be honest, I think I could've done with more, if it fleshed out that thread a little more.

 

After press tour for TLJ and admiration for Rian's socks Mark decided to up his socks' game as well.

Maybe the way was edit makes these scenes so long.
Very curious to watch TLJ in home to see if CB works better now.
