The probability is high that he is standing in a rendering rig... however, look closely at his face... and his eyes. He is looking at the camera taking the picture. This is a pure promo shot, even if it a promo of him in the rig

I took that as someone secretly snapping a picture of him, could be mistaken

If it's a promo shot it's a horrible one. I agree that it's probably a surreptitiously snapped quickie during a scanning session.

That's what I thought could have been the case since someone (who worked on the movie) mentioned before that was a thing being done to the actors and/or some extras.

They scanned all the characters in the movie for use in all kinds of things. Its a standard process for any movie that has merchandise and CGI.

Did Luke put the visions into the crystal?

3D scanning like that is used for creating digital doubles also known as digi-doubles.

I know, haha. I said it in an earlier post. It can be used for anything that needs a 3D model of the character.

I think traditional robes make perfect sense for the top ranking master Jedi. This isn't a fashion show.

Yeah, but it's been 30 years and the old Jedi order was wiped out. It makes sense that Luke's look would reflect some change.

Wait, do you have information that makes you think there may have been done truth to your batman/zorro theory?

    Or just wishful thinking?

Man I sure did dig his ROTJ getup though! Def dark and not traditional. Getting old can mellow you out. Heh

I hear you. Based on how we last saw him I think the more traditional Jedi robe thing is throwing people a bit. Change can be hard to accept after you've imagined it in you head a certain way for so long.

I believe mark Hamill himself said he didn't want to do so much of the lightsaber dueling, instead playing more of the yoda-mentor role. Maybe he does have some more action oriented moments in this film, but it's all done with a 3D scanned Luke so Hamill didn't have to spend countless hours choreographing

But they don't need to do a complete 3D scan for that. Traditionally they use a body or stunt double for the heavy action and replace the head or face using CG. That's what they did with Christopher Lee in the prequels.

There is a world of difference between thinking he will be in more than just the flashback and at the end, and any confirmation of the zorro idea... I definitely think he will be in more than those two shots, and zorro is just an idea of what he might be doing

The zorro/batman rumor has been floating around since the "Luke is a prisoner on a planet that is a super weapon" rumor. As awesome as a older, hardened Luke sounds, it's the same wishful thinking we've been doing since day one. The photo we saw looked more "wise wizard" and less "dark knight." Still, it is intriguing that luke's codename on-set may have been original warrior....

To a certain degree, I agree with that. The point was that I believe he would be in more than 2 scenes... I am fairly certain about 3, and pretty sure about a 4th... someone asked if I was relying on the Zorro theory to base that on, which I am not... that was a theory I had over a year ago, and while I think there may be some truth to it, I think we have evolved beyond that for the most part...

None of which invalidates my belief that he is in more than 2 scenes
