A further shot within a scene we already know may exist, rather than an extra, different scene?

 

This is perhaps the case, as I do not know how extensive the flashback will be... I am also not sure if the scene with Luke and R2 is from the flashback...

 

Perhaps from a flash-forward?

 

I don't think so... I think the vision will be used to reveal to the participants (and to recap for the audience) the linage of Skywalker... I think the reason that the saber is valuable is that it did belong to Anakin, and was passed down to Luke, and was part of the reveal to Luke that Vader was his father (although, to be fair, by that time his hand holding the blade had already been separated from his body)

Sorry if off-topic...but since this was brought up.

Whether it's 30 years or 32/33 or there-abouts... to me what's really strange is that we're talking 50% more time has passed than between the end of the Clone Wars/Republic fall of the entire "dark times" of the Empire - only ~20+ years.

Thinking back to Ben telling Luke:
"For over a thousand generations the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times, before the Empire."

All *those* changes in the galaxy in ~20+ years now half again as much time has passed by - Has a similar amount of change occurred?

Then again, the Emperor maintained the façade of senate all the way until EpIV, Tarkin:
"The Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us. I've just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the council permanently. The last remnants of the Old Republic have been swept away."
So....the Old Republic was "swept away" just a few years before the Emperor was destroyed - Do most people who remember 'the dark times' associate that with The Republic?

Good point - also as Mark Hamill pointed out himself, he's the same age as Alec Guiness was when ANH came out.
We can cut him a little slack for 'looking his age'.
