Official Rey Episode VIII thread

As cool as it would be and as much as people want to see something kind of over the top like a double blade I think they hyped the Skywalker saber a little hard for her to just hand it over to Luke and then it never be seen again. He's going to use his green one no matter what since it is actually his. Clearly sabers carry some bit of force power within them and a connection to their owners so i don't think Luke is going to use anything but the one he physically built. They wouldn't have made it such a plot point if she wasn't going to use it either.

 

The color thing doesn't hold.

I think it's been lost enough times. We might hear from Maz how she got it but I think its back in the fold for good this time.

 

I'd like to see a gold lightsaber...and I think REY is the one to do it.

 

If Luke doesn't have his green one. Which I think he does, but then again who knows. I believe Rey will craft her own double bladed lightsaber, but only use the dual blades at certain times. I just feel it would be stupid for her to have a staff and the story group to not give her a double bladed lightsaber. Also no one becomes a true jedi until they build their own lightsaber so it would be cool to see her have her own.

 

I think she'll have a double-bladed blue Light saber with Anakin's light saber used as part of the assembly for it. So technically she'll still use anakin's saber.

 

if/when luke whips out old green in episode 8 or 9, i will lose my shiz

 

I'd like to see a custom double bladed, blue that splits apart into two smaller light sabers, but can also function as a staff like Darth Maul's.

 

Dual bladed saber one half the Skywalker blue saber the other half green or maybe they change it up and go pink or some new color for the other.

 

I monder why the majority of Jedi seem to have Blur Lightsabers...I've always thought that green looks sooo much cooler (it's also my favorite color)

Rey uses blue saberstaff, Luke uses his old blue lightsaber because he lost the green to Kylo Ren.


You can see Luke's Saber in Kylo's belt.

 

I don't think she will use Skywalker's light saber. She didn't hesitate to pull it out of the bag and hold it out to Luke. Maybe that was just the only thing JJ could come up with when Rey found Luke.

 

I'm not convinced that Kylo has Luke's lightsaber. I think that is something else.

That said, I believe Kylo will somehow get the blue lightsaber from Rey in part 8, and Rey will construct a green one to show her advanced powers. Plus, a new lightsaber design means more new toy sales....said the Disney merch man.

 

Someone else touched on this earlier, but I think it will be a different take on a dual saber. More like a pole-arm/pike saber, single or double bladed, doesn't matter. Wow, that is exactly what I was thinking. Rey's physical size would marry well with Tanno's dual lightsaber style, but where they can be put together as a staff.

 

I don't think she'll need to do anything except learn how to turn the weapon on. I bet Luke was speechless when he saw her with the staff that belongs to Darth Plagueis... kinda like how I was when I saw the first poster with her running and holding it. What might be really interesting is if it won't activate for anyone but Snoke. As for Rey building a saber, I'd like for her to construct a purple one, if only to tick off Sam Jackson. And give the blue one back to Finn.

 

This is an interesting question -- we must remember: Anakin's lightsaber called to her. It would seem logical that it would be hers to keep. In fact that is an interesting unresolved bit at the end, isn't it? Maz very clearly says that the lightsaber called to Rey... but then there's Rey at the end of TFA trying to get Luke to take the saber. Almost like she's still hoping that she can avoid embracing the destiny she was shown by getting Luke to bear her burden. That could be a very interesting plot device going into episodes VIII and IX.

 

Anakin's one. This saber seems to love her.

 

She will keep Anakin and Luke's lightsaber. The visions, the history behind it and the fact that it called to her. She definitely keeps it.

 

To continue discussion about Rey here on ep 8 forum part...

There has been a lot of speculation that Rey would turn to the dark side as the new trilogy proceeds. Do you think this is likely, given how she has developed in ep. 7? Could it be just as likely that she would try to run away from her responsibilities, as she has shown this type of behaviour (e.g. running away in Maz's castle?)?

I am also interested to see how her character will develop in the future movies: Rey had such a strong story arch in ep 7 that I sometimes wonder how that could even develop.

One way could be that she becomes over-confident in her Force-abilities (read: arrogant) that will lead her to overestimate her own skills and, consequently, experience a humiliating defeat. Actually, to think, it could be a very feasible way for her to grow: she does something that endangers everything (and everyone) in ep 8, and in ep 9 she need to try to fix the mistakes she did.
