Do we know for certain how old Rey was when she was left on Jakku?
I thought JJ originally said 5 but there is nothing official on this and the girl that played her was 8 years old (and looks it).

 

I don't think we know for certain. It's just the best guess. The actress was around 8-9, but consensus is that Rey was around 5. I'm not sure the 3-4 years matter too much right now. However, if she was closer to 8 it seems like she's remember a little more about her past.

 

Wow 5 yrs old, that was a age to leave her on Jakku.

“Star Wars” Breakout Daisy Ridley and Trio of A-List Directors Circle Hot New Spec “American Rebel” (EXCLUSIVE)

Daisy Ridley is already in talks, and we’re now hearing that Robert Zemeckis, Steven Spielberg, and Joe Wright are being discussed as possible directors for a package that’s being built around a spec out from Paradigm and Madhouse Entertainment.

The package is for the red hot new spec script AMERICAN REBEL, written by Christopher Cosmos, which tells the true-life story of Deborah Sampson, a young woman who disguised herself as a man to serve in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. Under the name Robert Shurtleff of Uxbridge, Massachusetts, she performed military duty for 17 months and was wounded in 1782. She attended to some of her wounds herself to avoid her secret being revealed. In spring of 1783, she was promoted and in that same summer, her gender was discovered by a doctor but he didn’t let slip her secret until the war was over. While other women who were discovered were reprimanded, Sampson received an honorable discharge at West Point on October 25, 1783.

Ridley, who will next be heard in the documentary The Eagle Huntress, which she’s also executive producing, and is attached to star in the upcoming Kolma from director Marielle Heller, re-teaming her with J.J. Abrams, and Lionsgate’s upcoming Chaos Walking, which Zemeckis was previously attached to direct, as well as Marc Forster’s upcoming The Lost Wife, has been on most every studio short list since her breakout role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and as such was the first to get script, as it started hitting the town earlier this week. With Ridley entering talks to board the package, all eyes turned to directors.

The three interested directors are all veterans in the industry and have experience bringing to life historical stories on the big screen. Zemeckis has the upcoming Allied, a World War II movie with Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, as well as Forrest Gump. Meanwhile, Spielberg and Wright have both received critical acclaim for their period films such as Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan for Spielberg and Atonement and Pride & Prejudice for Wright.

Cosmos is producing Universal’s upcoming Elizabeth Banks directed Red Queen and he is also working on the adaptations for Red Sonja and Langley High. He previously appeared on the 2012 Hit List.

 

Wow the works just keeps comin.

 

Sounds like a cool story that will make a good movie. I'm sure Daisy will be great if she ends up in it.

It is sad but I think its been coming for a while. There are some nasty trolls who have been smashing her for a while. Not just on social media but on forums, websites and Reddit. Am sure a lot of the Reddit nasties are the same eight or nine posters. They have multiple different names on different forums but its the same posters. As for the political landscape, Daisy just cares, in the world today there is little altruism and a hell of a lot of social exclusion. You can't change these ideologies but you would think everyone would understand the little word 'respect'. I hope Daisy never changes she's a wonderful human-being

 

it's a good thing, too, because people will always have bad things to say "for fun" and it's a good thing that she's being smart about it.

 

I hope so too, she's a strong young lady who has a focused mind for the future, but she has had to learn a lot from this experience & instagram should do more to protect users from that abuse.

 

Rey-a Goddess?

I was getting side-tracked in Wikipedia with some ancient Star Wars (the Greek and Roman mythological kind) and thought of Rey while reading about Rhea. It's probably not very note worthy or has been mentioned before but there may be a vague connection here. I guess there's connections everywhere for people like me with SW on the brain. From Wikipedia:

“Daughter of the earth goddess Gaia and the sky [walker? - just kidding] god Uranus...she is known as "the mother of gods"...Most ancient etymologists derived Rhea ('Ρέα) by metathesis from έρα "ground" ... connected the word with ῥέω (rheo), "flow",



and "discharge"



“Alternatively, the name Rhea may be connected with words for the pomegranate, ῥόα, later ῥοιά.”



Apparently some creation stories describe temptation in a garden with a pomegranate. The above shot is when Rey gains knowledge from Maz of the fight between good and evil - “the only fight...against the Dark Side.”

Anyway Rey would certainly seem a goddess in the eyes of the Force ignorant and “mother of goddesses” is always a possibility with the saga's strange Force genetics paradox's. I'm still waiting for a SW movie to feature characters or cultures who view these Force using individuals as gods to be worshipped. Maybe in 8?
