Poe's role in episode 8

Let's be honest here, bromance or romance, Finn x Poe was a hit, and will continue through Episode VIII. As for Poe being alive, I see it as a need to have a Wedge Antilles and a Lando Calrissian character combined into one, with just enough of his own with and spark. Could he have the power to wield the force? Maybe, but I think he's just a natural pilot like Han, Luke, Anakin, etc.

I think Poe and Finn are gonna be the new lead of the resistance. Like Air and Ground generals.

 

I think they might be trying trying to take POE to the HAN level in the next one.

If the MSW info is correct then it looks like Poe is going to have a bigger role in this movie and I'll be glad to see. I really liked his character in TFA and it left me wanting to see more of him.

 

I can get on board with that but hopefully they won't kill him off like originally planned lol.

 

I believe Poe will still being squad leader/spy seeking out other planets to rise against the first order.

 

Poe is just too sexy not to get a little love in episode 8.

 

makes me wonder again..why is finn even in the movie. if poe going to be the new han solo. what's finn purpose. the human jar jar binks?

 

We all got to get off this which one is the new Luke, which one is the new Han, which one is the new Leia thing. It's fun to speculate. Although there was a short meeting in the novelization between Rey and Poe, they never had a chance to bond. She did bond with Finn. Poe seems to admire and follow General Leia, so he could be more the leader role, if you want to take it that way. He could still be entertaining in a Poe way. Why can't there just be a Poe way?

 

Poe is actually more like Leia character-wise than Han. Finn is more like Han if anything.

 

Back in August of last year I had the same thought more or less. My take was this:

I think they each have an aspect of the original three overlaid onto their character. Like playing a shell game with character traits. (pardon me while I speculate)

Rey: potential Jedi (Luke), Secret offspring of major character from previous trilogy(Leia), and Pilot of the Millennium Falcon (Han)
Poe: X-Wing Pilot(Luke), Brash hotshot(Han), and has ties with Resistance/Rebel leadership and politicians(Leia)
Finn: inexperienced kid who quickly gets disillusioned with the Empire/FO(Luke), bonds with a Wookiee companion(Han), provides Resistance/Rebels with enemy secrets (Leia)

 

Poe's role in VIII = Resident Badass

 

Yup, if we're doing direct comparisons:

Leia and Poe: dedicated to a movement, relatively consistent characterization.
Luke and Rey: 'chosen one', thrust from a simple life into a galaxy-changing adventure.
Han and Finn: the 'fun' character who always does the right thing after a few missteps.

It's hard to find similar parallels with the prequels... I guess Anakin was the Luke and Padme was the Leia, and Obi-Wan had shades of Han, but not by much.

 

From the moment he shouted "Woo hoo!" in that first trailer I knew Poe Dameron was going to be one of my favorite Star Wars characters. I'm so glad they didn't kill him off in VII. (I'm really looking forward to his new comic series).

Here's what I'd like to see from Poe in VIII:

• I'd like Poe and Finn's friendship to continue to develop.
• I want to see more of Poe's unrivaled piloting skills (hopefully in a space battle).
• I definitely want Poe to keep being funny. That's one of the things I love about his character. I'm not sure how much experience Rian Johnson has with humor, and I know VIII will probably be much darker, but I hope we still have a few "Who talks first?" kind of moments with Poe.

 

Are we going to have any moments with Poe and Leia about how her son tortured Poe? I assume he knew on Jakku that Kylo Ren was her son? Did he report to her on his return of what happened while he was captured?

For that matter, how common is the knowledge that Kylo was once Ben Solo? Chewie knew, Lor San Tekka knew. Who else?

 

I keep wondering this myself. Who knows who he really is. We know Snoke knows, of course, Leia knows. Lors San Tekka knew, maybe his whole village, and that is why I think he was killed right away, because of his saying things about "his family". I don't think it was a coincidence Poe and Lors San Tekka were just talking about his mother, a kind of forshadowing, or a device of some type, then Lors San Tekka goes on how he knows him before he was Kylo Ren just a short time later. I wonder how much of an mystery it is. I didn't get any indication that Poe knew, but maybe he did. Not sure that Poe knew him growing up though. The story in Before the Awakening didn't indicate he knew Leia prior to joining the Resistance.
