Poe's role in episode 8

Well he is her trusted agent so they are going to have one of those chats.

 

i doubt we'll pick up more information about Poe's interrogation.
everything that was relevant about his capture and escape has been pretty much resolved by the end of TFA.

that said, it would be interesting to know what he knows about Leia's family (i kinda suspect he knows more than most).
and maybe that will play into his role going forward in some fashion.

he's kinda a wild card since he was supposed to be dead.

 

As good as Poe is, I would love to see his Imperial equal in the First Order. Introduce a new character and show his point of view, like opposing snipers in Vietnam or Enemy at the gates. I would also like to see more propaganda posters and such hanging around where the First Order work and train. Then, there is built up drama between Poe and his arch nemesis.

 

See Finn reminds me a lot of Luke. The perpetual good guy, always sticking up for and helping his friends, biting off more than he can chew

 

Yeah got the same vibes too to be honest. Finn's relationship with Han in TFA reminded me of Han's relationship with Luke in ANH.

Isn't there a behind the scenes clip where they state that Poe was meant to be a Han Soloesque character or something like that?

 

Poe is kind of Han like, but in a Leia type role.

 

I guess it was more like a implicit wish we all got by reading "The Shattered Empire" and seeing his mother fighting and flying with Leia at Naboo. If they can add some sort of random memory of Naboo I would be pleased lol.

Definitely. In the book "Before the Awakening" they mention how Poe looks to Leia with admiration and wonders what's the story behind his look of suffering. Hope by then he knows Kylo Ren is no other than Ben Solo and realizes the heavy load on Leia's shoulders.

Agree.

In my opinion he is more like a Han than Finn. Finn acts more like Luke, in the way the naive, good-natured boy. Poe more like the cocky pilot.

Exactly what I think

 

True, he mirrors Leia in both being a committed Resistance fighter and how he starts off TFA in a rough equivalent to the Leia scenes at the start of ANH:

• Both with a droid that they give information to.
• Both are captured by Darth Vader/Kylo Ren.
• Both tortured.
• Both rescued but one a little earlier than the other.

Agreed, this seemed most apparent to me when they hijacked the Tie Fighter which, for some reason I can't place, reminded me of Han and Luke on the guns of the MF when they are escaping the Death star.

 

Poe is similar to Han, but I think Han is more grumpy and cocky. Poe seems more optimistic, more committed to his cause - like Leia.

 

Yeah but then none of the characters in TFA are a direct parallel to the OT characters and that's a good thing. I dare say that it would be better if we all avoided trying to match them up so to speak.

 

I am sure that Poe may or may not have heard stories about Leia from his mother, it seemed from the ATA story, his mother died when he was 9? and didn't talk much about it, but his father would. She would take him flying. I loved Shattered Empire. I am so glad that they kept the character of Poe, really love him and he added so much to the movie.

 

He would be like the perfect combination one would have expected their own son to be. *sobs again*

I was reading "Poe Dameron # 1" and then went back to read "Shattered Empire" # 2 and # 3. I want to believe Leia would have told him briefly something about the Operation Cinder and how she and her mother flew together.

 

This would be nice. I was just thinking I couldn't really see any value to more Poe, but if he gets an interesting antagonist, I'd like to see that.

 

Those special forces Tie fighter pilots did pretty well chasing Rey and Finn around Jakku so it wouldn't be difficult to imagine a FO "Red Baron" character so to speak. It would definitely be an interesting addition to the trilogy.

Although if the Laura Dern rumour is correct then they seem to be grooming Poe for a leadership position so I don't know how much space dogfighting he will do.

 

In After The Awakening, when Poe joins the Resistance, it's mentioned he gets all kinds of stories from people who knew his parents. Since so many are old battle mates. In the #1 comic, one of those, L'ulo, was very close to Poe's mom in Shattered Empire. I love when Lando hits on Shara Bey This is the panel, and the next panel is Han saying something like "You never quit do you" and Lando says " I am a connoisseur of beauty in all things my friend" LOL

they can't take him out of the dogfights! and i seriously doubt the character would even be willing to relinquish it.
i mean, even Vader hopped in a TIE and went cruising for Luke in ANH .
i'm sure Poe ain't giving up his X-wing for some stuffy command post. he can lead from the sky!

 

Poe in the dogfights was some of the most awesome things in TFA.

I love the idea of a "Red Baron" character that is an elite FO TIE pilot. Kind of like Baron Fel from the 181st Imperial Fighter Wing in the old EU. Maybe we'll see that kind of character pop up in one of the Poe Dameron comic issues, if not in episode VIII.

 

-Both rescued by guys wearing Stormtrooper armor.
-Both rescue plans are very spur of the moment, not pre-planned, and thus go south very quickly.

There's also an inverse. Leia has all of her real action scenes in the second act (she'd sidelined in the first act via being a prisoner and then in the third act via being in more of a command role at the Yavin IV base during the DS attack).

Poe is also sidelined during the first act for the same reason, but then is also sidelined for the second act as well via, we think that he's dead. Then he shows up and has most of his action scenes in the third act, and does take part in the attack on SKB.
