I didn't deny he's conflicted. But still we know - for sure - what his choises were.
    And that's all the point.

I suspect, that if one need to dimish Kylo's responsabilities it's because to ship Reylo without feeling disturbed one has
to justify more than it's needed (or portrayed) his choises, that because we know they're bad.

Still I deny that he's kind.
    Because he's not.
And being interested, or to want to train someone, it's not = being kind. Or a gentleman.
To me, there's a difference. A big one.

i called him abysmal and appalling, so i'm not justifying anything and i never called him kind.

i said he has compassion--an innate (and compelling) capacity for good.
and by showing his conflict in TFA, we're being made aware that there's still a chance he can access that goodness.

he doesn't in TFA. that doesn't mean he might not find the strength for it in TLJ or IX.

    i'm saying the possibility exists.
we can judge him all we want, but his story is not done yet.

    I said the same thing.
I said he can be redeemed.
I said he deserves at least a second chance.
I said I fully expect for him forgivness and love from his family.

But I've also expressed my thoughts about the so called Reylo.
Thing is you can have one (redemption) without the other.

If you believe that's for sure what the storytellers are giving to us, sorry to say
that until now I wasn't conviced by none of the arguements I've saw that that's 100% the case.
I believe there are plenty of ways to interpret the same things differently
(and some of those arguments - in my eye - are not even an argument)

    Not that that's impossible.
However, I really do believe that Reylo is not coherent with what until now SW has been.
Because redemption in SW comes through love but it doesn't come for free.
As it has to be in a formative novel.

    But... things may change.

I laugh when people say Star Wars is about redemption. It's never been about redemption. It's about the force, and how both sides are in conflict with one another. The first trilogy wasn't about redemption. It was about a young boy finding out how he fits into a larger world.

If Star Wars wants to be taken seriously and not be the end of a bunch of jokes, then any talk of redemption needs to cease. 3 more movies to try to convince us that bad is good. Meanwhile ignore the actual good deeds from the real protagonist while desperately trying to find some good within the bad guy. I've already heard this for two years while Finn was mostly ignored. If it wasn't for Finn's actions there would no movie to tell. Does anyone realizes this. There is no movie without Finn. Rey has the force, but unlike Luke we don't know if she wants to help the galaxy. I see the galaxy as Finn's responsibility, and not Rey's. People want her for their own selfish reasons, but all that does is make her as something to be desired.

How does that fit into her being a hero? Even looking at the trailer what has Rey done that is considered heroic? Finn is doing all the heroic stuff. Rey is just going from one place to the next.

If Kylo wants Rey, it has to do with the force and power. Same as Snoke. The only person who actually cares about her as a person is Finn. He doesn't want her because she is all powerful or force sensitive. He doesn't even know she's FS. He sees her as an actual person, and that is how this story will most likely end. Same as Luke with his father. When it's all said and done it won't be about who is most powerful, but who actually sees her for her.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rey kills Snoke.

It has nothing to do with being "badass" (this is the same angry Finn we saw take on Kylo Ren at the end of TFA whether he wins the fight or loses). But emphasis. Rian Johnson has never cared about diversity in his projects before working with Disney unlike J. J. Abrams. J. J. Abrams has spoken about and implemented for a long time about how it's important that people (women and PoC) other than white men be at the forefront of movies and TV shows. Fortunately now Disney are his footing the bill, like how Johnson changed the Looper script to accommodate his investors from the Chinese mainland, so I expect him to not be able to get away with as tertiary roles as the women have been in his past movies aimed at adults like the roles such as mom in Looper, manic pixie woman in Brothers Bloom, and the femme fatale in Brick.

I don't recall talking to you in particular about that at all, but it was probably one of my many posts about recognizing what the structure of the OT is and how that applies to the ST just like the OT iconography does. And it's not the same exact twist resting up that structure. Parents aren't evil, parents aren't Jedi, Emo Killer Elsa/OT Leia/Kylo fell to the dark side while sibling Anna/OT Luke/Rey waited around to reunite with her family after separation. It's a new echo and rhyme.

I keep reading rumors about it happening, and the trailer definitely wants us to believe it is a possibility at least, but:

Rian Johnson is just saying that the possible romance in TLJ won't be equivalent to Han and Leia's in ESB. At least how I read that tweet.

I think it comes down to the character motivation: Han Solo is doing everything he's doing in ESB because of Leia and for Leia.

None of TLJ characters are at that point of the motivation in the storyline after TFA. Nor Kylo, nor Rey, nor Finn, nor is Kelly Marie Trans's character who wasn't present in TFA at all.

This is the reason I discuss very rarely this topic. The implications and projections towards real life and mostly female fandom who "ships" (whatever the term means) is beyond any decent level.

One thing is not liking something and another thing is calling a part of the fandom creepy and weird.

    A
    Absolutely.

You can disagree but once you cross the line into name calling and shaming, it makes you wonder. I mean, they know nothing of your life, your beliefs and your experiences and yet they judge with impunity.

    Shame.

This was supposed to be a place where you could constructively discuss theories and ideas.

As a bisexual woman, I'm baffled by the fact that you'd call what another woman finds attractive, misogynistic. Interesting.

Once again, this thread took the same way as the others confusing what there is on screen and where the story group is leading this trilogy to ... what people want the story to be.

I stand by thinking the glorification of domestic violence as a bad thing. That's not the outrageous opinion. :)

everyone is entitled to their reaction, and not all reactions are worth responding to.
if you want to discuss constructively, probably best to engage with the people who are actually constructive. : D

Precisely. I really find it unlikely that Rey and Kylo will become a thing at any point of the trilogy. The Force Awakens is not Beauty and the Beast.

I agree with a sentiment of another poster, I don't see how this revolves around you giving me a bollocking when it had nothing to do with you, but for sure you carry on & enjoy it sweetie, carry on throwing shade at those at the opposite end of the spectrum who truly don't care.
