There are still people who think Rey is a Mary Sue? I thought the latest trailer crushed this nonsense completely.

That's the whole point of his character.

I like the idea of Reylo respectively ReyBen. It's something new and storywise very fitting.

This is a Disney production, they will never promote incest, if Rey-Ben romance is end game Rey is not related to Ben.

If Luke is attracted to Leia in 4 ("she's beautiful" when he first see her in hologram, and when he first see here in the Death Star prison) and french kiss her in 5 it's because Lucas never planned Luke and Leia to be related in theses 2 movies, in the first version of the scenario of 5 Luke has a sister called Nellith Skywalker hidden in the galaxy, she was supposed to be introduced in 6, the "No, there is another" of Yoda was supposed to be Nellith introduced in the next movie, but Lucas decided during the making of 6 that there was no time to introduce a new big character like Nellith, so he decided to transform Leia into Luke's sister to explain "the another" and add more conflict to Luke (the famous "if you don't turn to the dark side then perhaps she will").

I don't think they will change Rey's origins from "not related to Kylo" in 7 to "related to Kylo" in the next movies, that would completely be dumb...

"I loved the developing romance between your character, Finn and Rey in “The Force Awakens.” How is that romance evolving in the next chapter?

Boyega: I mean, we didn’t establish a romance in seven; we never played it that way. Daisy and I, we’re friends.

    So there’s no romance?

Boyega: Yes, Finn and Rey – they’re just friends. Finn is a storm trooper, so he doesn’t really know what’s going on. So the romance thing is something that’s going to be interesting in the next installment. It’s not going to go the way you think it’s going to go."

    http://variety.com/2016/film/news/star-wars-episode-viii-darker-bigger-john-boyega-1201774027/

There was no beginning of romance between Rey and Finn in TFA, this is just friendship, or brother-sister relation, Finn is the brother she never had, just like Han was the father she never had.

Remember all those Disney Pricess movies when the Prince roophied the Princess put her in bondage, made thinly veiled threats and then used magic to brutally force himself into her mind to steal information. The actual movies not the bondage fan fiction.

What I find absolutely fascinating about Reylo is the high number of fans who manage to dismiss it as impossible. I swear, we could see them making out on screen and some fans would still be like "Oh this proves that they're related because Luke and Leia kissed in the original trilogy, Rey Skywalker conformed!!"
    Well brace yourselves.

The idea is toxic and misogynistic (even from women) and depraved.

I find the sexual objectification fantasies about being dominated by a killer or thinking a bad guy can be tamed by sexual feelings creepy and weird...and the weird fetish posts elsewhere about how Rey exists to make Kylo's babies.

It's also strange if not bigoted how Rey as a future partner for Finn or Poe gets set aside for this idea that the two who fight each other have to hookup and mate.

This is Star Wars, not Fifty Shades of Killer Kylo garbage and not some Lena Dunham vanity project.

Even though the myth still exist we have no source telling us that Disney is even remotely in charge of the story. Sorry to bust a bubble.

    First, off... Wow.

Secondly, most Reylo shippers are women. Are you telling me that women are incapable of liking things that may push the limit of whats acceptable without being denigrated as degenerates and misogynistic? In your view, are women meant to be some paragons of moral perfection? Only liking whats acceptable and the stuff that you consider "socially" healthy?

    You know what's misogynistic?

Policing what women can or cannot enjoy. Sure, you might dislike something. That's your prerogative. But to insinuate that the women who enjoy those things that you don't are misogynistic towards themselves(????) as a way to shame them... well, stinks of misogyny.

It's alright when men express having Slave Leia fantasies but as soon as women voicing their own fantasies through two characters, tables turn and they're called "depraved" or "bigoted".

We are all adults here. Adults who have different life experiences, opinions, situations. We do not need to be told what to like or enjoy. We do not need to be shamed for it.

I resent your words, Magnar. I really do.

    It's fiction.
There are plenty of fans who headcanon Rey as asexual or lesbian. And more power to them. Perhaps they'll be right. While, LucasFilm is unlikely to go that direction but if they do, I won't be against it nor would most Reylo shippers I know.

    Have some common courtesy.

Don't pretend that Reylo shippers are some sort of twisted fallen women who can't make decisions for themselves just to justify your dislike of the ship. Live and let live.

People who are too much like each other generally don't make good partners. So no Reylo.

Not sure they're supposed to seem much like each other. I think they're supposed to be opposites, just equally matched opposites. and I mean that purely as the protaganist/antagonist and the light/dark.
Weather they would or could ever end up together I have no idea, I don't think they will ever have an on screen relationship in this trilogy, but if that is the route Lucasfilm take, then it might get set up in IX i suppose.

    opposites attract?

clearly the two characters are set up as complementary. whether this means they will be in a relationship or even have an actual attraction remains to be seen, but as @Dawn said, Ben could be redeemed and they could make out on screen and people will still deny it. God forbid love conquers all in a Star Wars movie.

the hysteria against this premise is embarrassing. i'm going to remain open to the storytellers to tell me a great story without judgment--whatever it may be.

Star Wars is a tale about redemption... also. No doubt.
But because it's a tale, a fairy tale if you wish, with a moral.
    And a pretty clear one.

The bad guys in SW - until now - can be redeemed (because they want to)
but there's a price to be paid.

That because above all Star Wars is a novel of formation.
    That's what it is.
It's a tale (or a fairy tale) about... responsability.
It's about growing up and taking full responsability of your own destiny and choises.

Darth Vader, saves his son but he dies.

Few notice that even before that, in the PT, Padme dies as well...
Is that only a plot point, somehow needed, or is there a moral lesson too?

    I believe there is.

When Shmi dies (and according to GL that's the turning point - to the dark - of Anakin's life)
Anakin confesses to Padme what he have done, but she justifies him.
    "It's human" she says.
By the end of the movie, she even marries him.
Padme is given in that moment (on Tatooine) of the chance to at least try to stop Anakin from the path he's going down to.
She can use in that moment some persuasion.
She can have add "[It's human], but it's wrong. It's something I cannot ignore."
    But she doesn't.

Is she a bad girl? Of course not. But she fails. Worst, she doesn't even try.

In Ep. III when she leaves Anakin (you're going down a path I cannot follow), it's just too late.

And that's the other point to be made: too late or not, she leaves Anakin.
Sure she thinks there's still good in him.
    Nevertheless, she leaves him.
Because that's the moral of SW.

I'll go further and say that if there's a weak point in the tale of the fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker,
that is exactly that in the end he is redeemed "only" because he loves his son.

He sacrifies himself to save his son. Not the galaxy.
The sake of the galaxy it's the side effect.

If compared, Obi Wan's sacrifice in ep IV is far more selfless.
Luke and Leia (and Han) are not his kids.
And he does that not because they are the kids of his old friend (and/or a friend he feels guilt about)
but because they are kids and because he knows that the sake of the galaxy depends by the surviving of those kids.
    That's fully unselfish.
That's the highest form of... compassion.

I'd say that if the ST wants to go a step further, then we need to see Luke, Leia or Kylo
dying only to save the galaxy and not their own blood.
I don't think we're going to see that, but that would be cool.
That would be closing the circle.
    That would be poetry.
Just because it wouldn't perfectly rhyme.

That said, when it comes to Reylo...

Many Reylos say, that it's a fairy tale and thus we have to put aside some (disturbing to many) details
and to bow to the idea that love can heal everything.
That that's the moral lesson we should take.

Problem is that fairy tales were wrote by misogynist societies.

Those lovely fairy tales were made to tell/instruct women to accept:

1- That they were not in charge of their own destinies.
Thus they need a prince to save them.
    or
2- That no matter what, they (the women) have to obey their parents first and husbands later on.
Thus they have to love those men no matter what.
Love the beast and he will turn out to be a prince.

This is what societies through fairy tales and/or religion told us (the women) to do.
    Because those societies were misogynist.

I believe the XXI century should welcome (or at least give a try to) a new kind of fairy tale.

I'd love the fairy tale of a princess (or even better a no one) in fully charge of her own destiny,
so much so she can even save the galaxy but not because she loves someone in particulary.
But because she's even better than that.
Because her destiny is not to love someone, but to save the galaxy (= to love all the galaxy), period.

I'd love a single Rey all the way.
Partially (and sorry, I know it's not cool nowdays) because I still hold care the old Jedi rules.
But sure femism (or just progress) is about free will, free choises.
Thus - if it serves the narrative - I won't have any problem with a romance for Rey.

But why in the hell must be her duty, worst.. her destiny, to save the poor, evil* guy?
Why if she have to fall in love, she have first to heal his heart?

Why she cannot fall for a guy with a nice ass and a better heart that doesn't need to be saved?
Why she cannot choise someone who can simply stay and who stays beside her?
Hopefully doing his own job (while she saves the galaxy)?

Someone who's capable to wash his clothes, cook for himself, iron his shirts and who doesn't feel the need
to kill his own father because he has already passed the phase of the Oedipal conflict?
A man. Not a disturbed kid.

Why love must be equal to labor?

We've got plenty of tales of this kind.
I'm sick and bored to death.

    * the poor/evil guy
Because he's not poor. And he's evil, until now.
No matter Snoke, no matter how much conflicted he is, he took his own choises.

And (see above) in a novel of formation that is not a side-detail.
In SW util now, it wasn't.

    Does Kylo have to die?
    No.
But he have to pay, if this is a novel of formation.

Does he deserve forgiveness and love?
I'd say he deserve for sure a chance and I fully expect love and forgiveness for him, from his family at first.

But for the rest of the people, it's a long road.
    It has to be.

    ADDENDUM

It's simply untrue that during the interrogation scenes Kylo's attitude vs Rey is nicer that the one he used with Poe.

    He doesn't beat Poe.
Poe's beaten before, by some one else. But since he restisted the tortures, here comes Kylo.
His job is the mind probe, just because tortures weren't enough.

When it comes to Rey... there's no need of torture or of beating her, simply because no torture could give him what he wants.
The map is inside Rey's mind.
There's only one thing he can do: the mind probe.
    Everything else is unusefull.

But yes... there's something he does to Rey that he doesn't do with Poe.
He wildly bangs her against a tree, later on.
    She falls unconscious.
Therefore... truth to be told, if he acts differently it's because what he does with Rey, it's even worst.

But back to the interrogation, what really changes it's... that Rey is powerfull in the force.
Until that moment even the words Kylo uses are almost the same.

    - Confortable? (to Poe)
    - You're my guest (to Rey)

    - I didn't know we have the best pilot in the resistance on board (to Poe)
    - The girl I heard so much about (to Rey)

Poe makes a sarcastic joke about Kylo's mask, and the only cool thing Kylo can do it's to ignore it.
That's what you have to do, if you want to look in control in that specific situation.

Rey is "scared" by the mask. Thus he takes off the mask, because again it's the coolest thing you can do
in a situation that is the reseverse of the one above. It's not compassion. It's showing how much in control he is.
It's = I'm powerfull with or without it.
It's not = Look how preatty I am.

@lealt ~ i don't think anyone can argue that Ren's behavior isn't appalling. but by design it's clear that the character is meant to be presented as conflicted by what he's doing. and regardless of his motives in the two interrogation scenes, they are presented to the audience in two very distinct ways.

we know Ren Ben has compassion in him, despite his abysmal choices.
we know it from Leia and from Snoke: the two people who probably know him better than anyone in the galaxy.
could also argue that Han believed it also.

you can argue the line by line reading, the nuances, microexpressions, and acting choices, but it seems impossible to deny that the storytellers want us to feel differently in these scenes (albeit uncomfortable in both).
Ren is clearly interested in Rey in a way he was not interested in Poe. he's attracted to her power, period.
whether that translates to desiring her as woman remains to be seen.

we only know for a fact that rather than destroy her, he offered to teach her--arguably against Snoke's orders.

Perhaps Rey will fall for Kylo if he loses both his arms and legs. Pity is the greatest human virtue.

You've lost all credibility for me with this message, this is your reaction to the final trailer of TLJ in the Finn thread.

Yeah glad the man who made Finn a comedic sidekick to Rey and created the whole "Reylo" thing by making fairytales Prince and Princess tropes and sexual tension between Kylo-Rey and is describing the two as "Cinderella and the Prince" is back for 9.

You should know that in the Skywalker saga the "emo" guy with Skywalker/Solo blood is more important that any "random" guy, you're supposed to be "a true SW fan", remember when you told me that I was not a true fan because "a true fan know that the main Jedi hero of the trilogy is revealed to be related to the bad guy with the red lightsaber in the second movie of the trilogy" and that they will make EXACTLY the same twist that in 1980 for the sequel trilogy, twist that a lot of people are expecting for years...

And the ironic thing is that Finn never looked more badass than with Rian Johnson...
