SPECULATION Rey's staff. Just a staff? More than just a staff?

Yeah, I read that earlier but I just don't quite believe it.

 

I keep going back to the idea that the Anakin/Luke lightsaber is supposed to go to Rey as a literal passing of the torch, and if she's supposed to have that lightsaber going forward, then the odds are against her having a special staff-saber. It may end up being electrified like the Magnaguards, but I don't see it being a lightsaber.

 

Given the symbolism that seems to be associated with the Anakin/Luke lightsaber, I'd say it's a near certainty that it ends up belonging to Rey. Of course, what we think we know may be wrong, but based on the current assumptions about the plot, I can't see the lightsaber getting retired at the end of The Force Awakens.

Imagine how dramatic it would be for her to ignite it and blow everyone's socks off, what a twist!

 

I just meant more as a surprise to the audience, but yeah. I guess it would have to be an opponent evenly matched like Kylo or something.

 

That's true. For the integrity of story I'd have to agree. If it is more then just a staff, it's better she pull it out next episode.

 

Just a staff. For all that have not done so. Go over to the casino and put down some credits on whether you think it is more than a staff or just a plain old staff.

Perhaps some of this has been talked about her staff for sure but I got perhaps some new insight what it could be.

I think her staff could be a type of Bo-Rifle which seems to be also a type of Electro-Staff.


Next is a Electro-Staff with nothing else on it.


Many people believe this is what her staff is.


And then there is her blaster, which looks a lot like Han solo's.


Han Solos blaster.


Though the two don't really match up, Rey being the scavenger she is could have found his blaster and modified it as we see in one scene in the third trailer where she is fixing or modifying some object. The Scope at the top could have been moved to the bottom partly in side.



Here in this picture seen many times before we see Han Solos blaster, a clue?

But then why would Han solo leave his blaster on Jakku years ago? Is this a nod to Obi-wan giving Luke his father's light saber? Father gives his daughter his blaster, but then who gives it to her? MVS?



Or is it just a plain staff? Would you be disappointed if it is?

I would a little, with the hype of being it more then just a staff.

In the end the Staff is five possibilities. Poll, do a vote...

 

Its a quarter staff and nothing more. Go watch the trailer and other teasers she seems only to carry it for the first act only. There is nothing special about it at all. Also the gun she has in the trailer is also not Han's gun its different. That image for me from celebration seems a little bit like misdirection if am been honest. Also am sure there is another thread exactly like this. Merge perhaps?

 

I am with @Greg Kirby Maybe not that exact model, but electro staff, Lasat staff, something like this.

included a close up of the staff and what I think is some kind of power button.

 

Previously I never really cared.
But I, as of today, am 100% on board for it being more than just a staff. I know it could be just very coincidental but after looking at some sabers recently, specifically Windu's, Plo Koon's and Darth Maul's they (plus her staff) all have a distinct similar feature. As well the Rey Empire magazine cover shows the bottom of the "staff" which has a distinct hole. Plus every single time we see Rey she has that staff! (Why such prominence for "just a staff")

 

Rey's staff is taller than her that is about 3-4 feet too long for a sabre staff. Its a staff. Daisy had an interview she confirmed its just a staff. Not a sabre. Not even some sort of taze staff.
