SPECULATION Rey's staff. Just a staff? More than just a staff?

There is this action figure, tho. She would still have her staff in Starkiller Base.

 

Good job on moving the goal post. I firmly believe that Rey will one day have a lightsabre. But its not her staff!.

You are saying the staff is really a lightsabre despite all evidence to the contrary. There is zero evidence of it lighting up. Its too long to be a double bladed sabre and it would be awkwardly long to be the same type as the not canon Dart Plagueis sabre. The actress who plays the character said it is just a staff. There are lots of things that we have no evidence on and can speculate. The staff is not one, we've seen it we have seen her use it in TV spots and other places with no lighsabre blade, no shock powers, just big metal stick. Its still awesome. I still think its cool. There are plenty of SW characters who used non-lightsabres.

 

Well I went back. I won't bore you with walls of quotes. On 10/7 you did think it was a staff. Earlier today you were pushing for the animation signifying some sort of power.

You did plainly say that you no longer think its a staff. So I did miss that detail.

In other news we AGREE Rey will get a sabre at some point.

 

I was aware of that when I posted, and I knew someone might bring it up. Then I thought - "yeah, and a little brown rucksack and a Centurions "power extreme" jetpack add-on thing too...? nah..."

 

If its just a staff then I hope she ditches it early in the movie. It can't deflect blaster bolts so it would be essentially worthless fighting people with blasters, its like someone carrying a sword and going up against people with assault rifles nowadays (even if they are an expert swordsman) just not a good idea. If its a lightsaber then she probably doesn't know about it somehow because the rumor is she is disgusted by lightsabers and doesn't want to be a jedi.

I'm assuming you mean that the blade would be the lightsaber part, it would work if the handle part was lightsaber resistant otherwise anyone using that thing is going to get their staff thing cut in half fast.

 

Well that was part of the overall all misunderstanding. I thought you were saying the staff was a sabre. I called it goal post moving cause I thought you were switching things. We agreed partially the whole time . . .so we both were talking past each other.

OK, I know I'm in the minority about this but here goes: maybe Rey's staff is really just a piece or pieces from ships that she fastened together to make a staff. The reason I say this is from the way it looks when she loads it on her speeder. It does look like a "weapon", just like something she uses as a weapon. Now, I'm sure if she's Force sensitive that she's fast and could possibly deflect laser blast with it, but I just don't think it's a weapon...but I've been wrong before.

I'm pretty sure it's just a staff, but it is funny how it looks like a lightsaber.

Thing is, we don't really know, but it's a hint. I just thought it was odd that they would put her this way with the staff and with "Starkiller Base" description but without BB-8 - unlike the Jakku one wich has BB-8 with her. And as we all can assume by now, BB-8 would be with Poe Dameron X-Wing once the Starkiller battle takes place.

 

Other than the fact that its about 3 feet too long to be a sabre. Is a length of messed up old metal and not the nice stainless polished metals we see on sabres. I totally agree.

 

You do have a point...plus, Rey's staff looks so horrible because of the parts she had to savage...I wouldn't put it past her that it's actually a part of her AT-AT House-Thing that she was like, "Hmm...looks sturdy enough," and breaks it off to use as protection .

 

if she does not use it to pole vault or stick into something and pull herself up, the ST is ruined and I am asking for my money back.

 

There WERE some Parkour stunt people hired, so you'll never know .
